Many many thanks to Victor Jesson for his dedicated work over ten years to bring this wonderful archive footage. I am in my late seventies now and worked in entertainment since the age of six. I have constantly pleaded to record some of the amazing productions, but was told no for legal poppycock. So much is lost for future generations. This footage shows many of the artistes from my personal collection of the Ballet Russe in the heyday. Many worked on into their Autumn years and it kept them very contented with life. My favourite part of this piece is the waltz sequence danced by Franklin and Danilova. Their bodies melt into such unison and harmony to the music. So delightful to turn back the years and see such artistry from the entire company. Once again well done Mr Jesson. Thanks for the memories.
I agree with you. It is really great music and my grandma loves the can can. Im not 100% sure if she knows this version. They played it on the radio and thags how i came across it. 😊😊
Thank you so much for making this available to the public. As my grandfather was a bombardier during WW2 and watching this presentation takes me back to his seat.
After having seen A. Danilova as a Grande Dame (and teacher) in “The Turning Point”, how marvelous to see her in youthful form and an accurate presentation of the genuine theatrical version, not some gussied up Hollywood presentation. This is authentic and what theater audiences experienced.
at 30:28 - I did this part for our ballet company in 96 and let me tell you something...#1 it was so incredibly fun!, #2, it was so incredibly EXHAUSTING!!!!!! Thank you for posting this...brought back fantastic memories.
It is just wonderfull to see again after all of this time .in the old days we dance .(to day the dancers do steps. Legs up over the head very vulgar I think .we also got the legs up but we did with art ) Edward Arckless
Agree with every word. I like the Royal Ballet young Principal Mayara Magri because she dances, also MacCrae of RB dances - I hope dancing, and grace, catch on again. Loved this performance and choreography.

My grandmother danced with the company at this time - Katia Geleznova. It's so wonderful to see footage like this.
Thank you for posting this. My mother, Shirley Haynes, is La Lionne in this.
Congratulations! This is so beautiful and moving!
How fortunate was I that my mother took me to see the Ballet Russe. It changed my life forever.

Wow! It looks exhausting! And dizzying.
Marvellous dancing! More complete than the Warner Brothers film in colour, and with the proper ending. The Jacques Offenbach Society
This is a fantastic film by Victor Jessen!

Un vídeo con la bailarina y maestra Nina Novak, porfavor 🙏.
Nice.
Интересно, от русского классического балета - мало что есть. Зато от ансамбля Моисеева - не отличить. Что за труппа?
Ballett Russe de Monte Carlo. The Bolshoi did it meanwhile on VT!
peccato che si vede male! :-(
