When he started the verse tears came to my eyes. He gets Judy the way we got Judy. Life is messy and nonsensical as the lyrics suggest , the send up is what makes life special. Judy allowed us a peek and with Charles version we see a peek of our own Angst to extract the essence of life that makes getting out of bed especially as we age an encouraging thing to do . We may not experience the number of life’s surprises as we age but we notice and appreciate those surprises- which is what gives us the motivation to find out “ what’s gonna happen today “ . As long as life is long Charles will be there to remind us of all the surprises that we are lucky enough to experience . Finding another reason to love , to laugh, to try again , to give life another whirl . Thank you Charles, your point of view and humor transcends the physical life we live - you feed the soul and you do it in the only way that is natural for you - by being true to yourself and through his sense of humor . No one else is like you and your here to remind us to cultivate that part in us that is unique to ourselves , or the part that irritates most people . Develops that with a sense of humor and people may not agree or see themselves in you but you will be authentic and respect yourself. Very easy for writers to write for the particular audience - to give them what they expect - he gives us what we couldn’t have know to ask for . I hope Charles never stops writing and or performing . I agree with Elaine Stritch - humor can change the complexion of your day in an instant - having a bad day - have a true laugh and suddenly you can start the day all over again . Charles gives us many do overs with his actressy humor of the black and white female actors delivery- decidedly feminine yet no less as strong as if it were delivered by a big male bully. He takes it seriously and that’s why it’s so funny. Hope he continues to go on singing !
That was great because you didn't try to imitate the great Judy Garland> You did it you way. I adore Judy Garland since I was a kid. No one really can close to her magic except the late great Jim Baily and now Debbie Wileman.
Charles Busch, you have brought me much joy over the years!
That is what being a performer is all about. Pure magic!
WOW! What a dynamic performance!

Charles Busch, you really embody the soul and spirit of Judy in such a joyous manner, thank you!
Charles, in this clip, captures Judy better than many who claim to be official Judy impersonators...
Brilliant writer and performer.
Bravo! That was wonderful!

Batting a thousand!!!!

"Anything from Faust to Ink-a-Dinka-Dink." Not exactly Cole Porter. Only Judy could get away with material like this.
I think it’s cute, but I’m a Jimmy Durante fan.
@@frankiebowie6174 Maybe you could explain what the last two words mean. "Singing day."
Good grief, I like this more than Judy's version!
Of course, Mario Cantone can actually sing.
He's charming - but he's nothing like Judy Garland. In any way. Sorry!
Was he trying to be? That’s just an entertainer who happens to love another singing her song…
