The film had just the right amount of practical effects. Movies have now shifted into an era where green screen/CG effects are so common that they induce boredom. You know that the actor/stuntman is not immersed in any kind of real action, and it feels empty to the viewer. The boat chase, shootout, fighting, and ultimate destruction (via propeller) was a great scene/sequence. This is by far the most rewatchable of all the IJ films. And I dare say a better father/son duo has not existed in cinema… at least not in action/adventure films. Just an all around great cast in general. Now I need to go watch it again… 🙂
Agree with everything you said except for it being the most rewatchable Indiana Jones movies. While it is very entertaining and easily the second best one of the series, the original is not only the best one, it is a cinematic masterpiece.

But for me, the father/son duo and the spirituality involved (I myself am not religious, but appreciate the higher concepts touched upon) gave the Last Crusade a little more gravitas and emotion. The world was richer.. but the audience now is also at fault, Demanding xxx and studios make movies asap and the only way is cgi and rushing. U get bad scripts, bad actings to please consumers. And this cycle is horrible for vfx artist which is why stuff seem to look worse than ever., The biggest fault is not letting movies take time to be made
