Jason! I have to tell you! I'm an old grandma here - every single time we get blessed by a download from you & you're wonderful family - it just brings me so much joy!! From the lessons you give us, to the great humor that just flows from you - I absolutely love you guys! Especially the way you talk to your animals ... the "cabbage party" comments - you end up making me feel like your animals each have personalities of their own. I just don't know how to convey how entertaining it is for me, sometimes if I'm feeling down & lonely. You help to bring me back up I adore you & your beautiful wife & daughter! Wish I could adopt you kids!! ❤❤❤❤

Jason, your patience with the sheep is so lovely to see. So many get to the point that they only look at them as livestock, and good for one thing. I love that you take the time with them and the pigs to be caring and kind with them all. Lorraine, your dinner looked amazing! Blessings to you all ♥

You need to get together with your friend Ben Hollar about putting in a orchard. You also have the space to put in enough berry bushes to meet your needs and beyond. If youre willing to be patient, many of the cane berries can be propogated from cuttings wintered in the high tunnel.

Any time we would get a side of beef, the butcher would ask how we wanted it cut. I always asked for roasts and steaks. I did not want ground unless that was the only option, so minimal on the ground. If I wanted ground, I would grind a roast. The butcher loved my orders because of the minimal work to make me happy.

I don't have experience with sheep but I do have experience getting animals to accept me in their area and then getting used to me and I can do this with some wild animals.
So, my first move is to be in the area they are, close enough to not spook them or get them to move away, but I don't think about the animal. I have something that I'm doing there. I feel this calms down almost any animal seeing you doing something and not paying attention to them. I have to think somewhere in survival mode is, when something is focusing on me they might be trying to get me.
If they can move around freely with you not paying attention to them you're most the way there. The next step is then to make a sound that won't scare them, and nothing loud, maybe something you'll use to call them, and you do this as you pay a little attention to them but not moving toward them, and then you leave.
I can't tell you how long this would take to get those animals used to you and moving freely around you, but the goal is to slowly pay more and more attention to them as they move more freely around you. I find I can get most animals to at least hang around, let me take pictures, feed them if that's what I want, etc.....

I grow cabbage mostly for Sauerkraut. Fermented food is where the best health benefits are. You can ferment plants to extract the nutrients into a concentrated syrup to spray on your plants. Also do not throw the juice of Sauerkraut away, use it to start the next batch and drink the rest. Your cabbage is amazing! You should try and grow one for show. You just might win!

HINT: Get a Ultraviolet (Black Light) Flashlight and come out after dark. Hold the light close to your tomato plants and you will be able to see every tomato worm glow in the dark - even if they're only 1/4 inch long, so you can get them before they do damage. It's amazing and is such a helpful tip I learned many decades ago. Another hint about feeding the sheep is to give them their food in a flatish pan where they can see the food and eat it. Then when you give them their treat - give it to them in that same pan. They need to recognize what it is you're holding. Sheep can be a bit weird - nice but weird. LOL

How are your high tunnel plants all so enormous?? It feels like you only planted them a week ago.
    Good job
