Same way as you. I like that I can put them in my garage refrigerator as well. No worries about extra condensation bc of the silica packs. Although, I actually put them in small plastic baggies inside the seed packs due to historical loss of packs from moisture.

I will be critical of your seed storage method . if you’re really looking to keep your seeds in good condition. You must keep them in airtight conditions. Your method is not airtight. and there is a chance for moisture or other contamination. You can just use a simple good quality Ziploc bag and silica packets. This gets very effective results.

@@tonidavis850 long term storage systems have really improved since then. I work at Canada’s national tree seed centre. We have a trial with spruce seeds from the 70s that were only stored at 4C in a collet and their longevity tanked relatively quickly compared to others stored just a few years later at -20C. Obviously moisture matters a lot before freezing. I think the system above is fine for home gardeners but sure is different working at a proper germplasm facility. And yes we do “garden annually” at our bank, with seed withdrawals and germination testing.

Okay. You're an expensive friend to have. The photo cases are a great idea now that we share your addiction to seed packs. Our cases will be delivered on Wednesday. Happy gardening!

That photo storage case is the same seed storage system that I currently use. I have 4 of those and it seems like I need to order more as I am still collecting new seeds, lol.

Also add an oxygen packet to your seed pack storage containers. One to each container.

I used to collect Pokémon cards, so I had a zipper binder with 9-pocket sheet protectors. I just fold my seed packets up and put them in the pockets. They sit in the bookcase in my room.

At my local Lowes, Burpee (I think) and other big brand seed companies came in right before Labor Day Weekend and threw their ENTIRE display of seeds into the dumpster! An employee told me when I came to buy seeds that weekend. I was appalled! Seeds don't go bad! Donate them or leave them for people to buy!
Also, thank you for this video! It is a great seed-storing tip! I am going to try it. Do you ever worry about chemicals from the plastic contaminating your seeds? I suppose with the seeds still in their original paper packaging it's less of a concern.

I keep all of my wide-mouth plastic jars from Costco purchases, clean them, label them and keep desiccant packs the bottom.
I have my different types of plants together: peas and beans in one, leafy greens in one, cukes and squash in one, etc...

I just got myself a slightly more expensive but really nice little box that comes with 40 little jars with cork tops. They're kept in there snug and safe, I can label them all separately, it's opaque, I can take out just one jar any time I like... I really like it at 15 pounds really isn't that bad for it. Keeping the packets just isn't an option for me, I absolutely hate it. I never use them all at once and I hate having to keep around open packets

I love this and I’m absolutely going to try it! I even have an unused photo organizer that I got on sale and haven’t filled yet!
Just a heads up, though...maybe don’t use OCD as a descriptor for how you choose to organize. It doesn’t bother me (I have been diagnosed), but I’ve seen a lot of folks getting hate for doing so lately, and I would hate to see such a helpful and informative channel be a target for such drama. 💚

I have a growing concern about trees being cut down in my native country Jamaica for housing developments. I would appreciate advice on how to start a proper seed bank. Hoping to store seeds for more than a decade if possible
