This was so refreshing to watch! I am a vendor at the Arizona, NorCal and SoCal Faire as well as a few others, and this gets really old really fast. They will chat your ear off the longest then try to barter or trade for product ( sprinkled with a few insults ) and then leave with nothing...all the while no other guests can even enter my booth. I love my regulars and the new friends I make...they are my heart and soul...but you worded this perfectly. Love your videos!
Thank you Laura! And thank you for watching! You are absolutely right about that. I have had the same experiences just like you described and it is always the same people lol.
Since I was asked to elaborate on an issue I brought up in another video, I decided to do this video about who the real patrons of renaissance festivals are. I wasn't trying to pick on anyone, just wanted to bring up what us vendors and show entertainers all know at ren fairs. Hope you enjoy!
This reminds me that I had seen these people before at a fair in Cali awhile back, and they were doing this exact thing! I remember thinking they were weird because none of them were even talking to each other they just sat at the bar and shot people dirty looks all day.
Regular, season pass holder here. It’s good to hear someone be honest and say the things we can’t always say. It is a treasure when at TRF to meet people from literally all over the world. And so many great vendors like Delwaide Pottery, Joe has been there since the beginning and over the years has become a very dear friend of ours. Looking forward to more of you travels.
Thank you for the compliment and for watching David! Yeah, over and over again, these are the things that are said in quiet that no one is talking about. It needs to be spoken about and changed for sure!
On a social media group I was in I committed my opinion on something they were bashing which wasn’t their opinion and basically was physically threatened. Crazy
Just found this video and YES! I've been making and selling at other state ren fest's (as well as a variety of markets and Artsfests) but was just turned down by my own state ren fest for the second time because my specific renaissance, Tudor, and myth items are somehow "not in theme", as it was stated. After a little confusion and reflection, it was then I realized the "theme" is all about what the current cliques decided as opposed to the "real" patrons. Not moaning, just observation.
There goes another truth! Some fairs understand that the real spenders are the casual fair goers that go their looking to see shows and pick up something unique for themselves or their family. Some get it. Some fairs don't! Thank you for finding me and thank you for watching!
I know EXACTLY who you're talking about. You may not know their names, but we do. I only made it out once this year, and I was not able to find you unfortunately. But I will keep looking, simply because I would LOVE to have a conversation with you. Plus, who doesn't love chocolate?
That's a bummer! I would love to chat with you Shannon! Sir B always looks better when a pretty lady is chatting to him haha! Yes, they moved me to a new section at my request. We were in the Florence Market section in a new street they made across from the Polish Pub.. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Thanks for watching!
I want to start a new Renaissance Faire in my area. Could it be possible to ask the vendors to get a picture of the most problematic customers? If the same costumers are reported enough from different vendors, I'd have turned away at the entrance.
Well, speaking on behalf of all vendors at ren fairs, we are most certainly glad that you do! You make it possible for us to pay bills and live a life! Thank you!
I stumbled on a video you made about what to expect when vending at a faire. I’m not new to markets but brand new to vending at a faire. I am from southern Louisiana and our big event is in Hammond but this isn’t the one I’m vending at. Our faire is in Ville Platte and is fairly new (3rd year). Belonging to a few faire vending groups, there have a chunk of people saying to not attend any faire in Louisiana. My bills aren’t paid by vending but I enjoy making stuff for others to enjoy. Wanted to get your take on this stance because there are plenty vendors who do depend on these events to pay bills.
Thank for watching and commenting first of all! Secondly, there is always a group, and that is usually the same people I mentioned in this video, in every state, that say the fair has "gone too corporate", "or too expensive", or whatever. The people that usually talk about this, in every state, are usually those people I refer too in this video. Because they have to pay a dollar more for their mead, they throw a fit. They don't walk around and assist the other vendors who could use their sales. They are just there to get drunk and waist time with friends. If a price increase or some other disruption happens, they are the ones that go on the social media pages and say stupid stuff like that. They are a minority and should be ignored because they don't support the vendors or entertainers anyway. Just my take! Thank you!
I work at faire , and get a few hours each Sunday to enjoy it . We all know those people, and they tend to be demanding , annoying and even confrontational. It’s all about them and they think they personify faire . The people we respect are those that treat others faire goers as friends . Like we are all in it together
Bro, somebody had to say it. It falls on you because you are your brothers (n sisters) keeper I know very well whom you referenced. I am a fellow lifer, but I’m one of the cool kids at the back of the bus. My parents, in their infinite wisdom, brought my brother and me to the Faire every year of our life from 6 on. I am proud to be 45 and look forward all year to TRF. I do it like few others🤙🏼 Unfortunately, I’m a working man and cannot indulge in every weekend. But, I have spent several tens of thousands over my time, and it has always been the best decision ever. If you know you know. If you have seen the fireworks reflect off the lake and have seen the moon and stars nod in agreement…then you also know. I go a long way to say…TRF is Fn magical! If you’re willing to do the work to get off your ass to walk around to sweat and to engage… Then you’re willing to experience a whole Other world…so to speak. Sir Blaspheme and soldiers like him, will always find me at their side!
Thank you brother! It is common knowledge who these people are, but they think they are special regardless...and they are not. They have no place putting down the real supporters of the faire is all I was trying to say.
My wife and I loved meeting up with you and talking. It's always a pleasure to see you. You are always smiles and a all round great person. We love your chocolates. I'm glad to hear your move went well and hope your cats are doing well. Hope we get to see you next year. Your friends in Nevada!
Always a pleasure speaking with you guys and thank you for the nice sentiments! I always look forward to chatting with you folks and look forward to doing so again real soon!
Appreciate you talking about this. I’ve been going to the bigger Texas fairies for a few years and these kind of folks keep me from looking into clans and groups.
There ya go! They get even worse on the social media pages. They truly think faires could not go on without them. They think they are that important and it is laughable. Thank you for watching!
I’ve been to one faire where clans have claimed almost all of the camping spots, and I’m not feeling inclined to camp there at all any more. But that’s really because of the faire management, I don’t blame the clans. I imagine that faires have to strike a delicate balance in encouraging people who will attend multiple days in a season.
@@dannyfaught2142 I agree with you on that fully. And that should be regulated by fair management. But this goes to my point once again, the clans, or just a handful of people among them, feel they own the fair. When in reality, like I mentioned in the video, they are dismissed by the vendors and entertainers because we know they don't pay our bills, everyone outside of them do. Those clans know what they are doing when they take over those campgrounds. It is rude and discourteous and needs to be called out and regulated. Just my thoughts though.
One of these years m'lady and I will make it to TRF! Thank you for your channel and sharing your experiences Sir Blasphemy! The only Faire we've been to is our local Bristol Renfaire on the WI-IL border.
Thank you for watching! I appreciate you! Yes! I have been doing some research on doing the Bristol faire. Hopefully I can vend there in the near future!
Love your videos, was able to purchase some of your chocolate when I visited Scarborough a couple years back. You may have answered this already but will you be back at Scarborough?
Thank you sir! And thank you for watching the videos! It is much appreciated! I won't be back at Scarborough for the 2024 season. I think I will be taking the entire year off from faires as I am under way with a permanent store in AZ. It will require my money and full attention for awhile so I will likely not be back until 2025.
I'm still new to going to faires. I'm thankful I haven't run into this type. What's the payoff of going to the faire just to slouch around in one spot and talk smack? It seems like they could get the same engagement out of shitposting on 4chan...
People like to use Renfairs as a live larp session. Sorry, just because you are a badass warlock in your dnd campaign doesn't mean you're cool swearing and stumbling drunkenly past families with their young kids...
