I'm thinking of building a small cart with 4 of these, so on one side I want the wheels to run in the opposite direction so that the cables are on the interior of the vehicle all around and protected

      I would guess that all hub motors are going to have planetary gears. I have a really cheap, bike, it was $600, with a hub motor and I love it. I duck paddle up really steep roads where only 4wds go down to the lake and it does not burn out, so I was wondering how they manage it. The planetary gears are a beautiful solution. You end up being able to regenerate some electricity going downhill, yet still, have nice gear selection.

    I was riding my fiido d1 ebike and the rear wheel locked up all of a sudden, causing the bike to skid off to the side with me on it. It seemed like something inside the rear wheel locked up, any ideas what it could be? It was a momentary thing, the wheel worked afterwards, but caused me to brake abruptly.
    Actually there is a problem with my bike (i didnt take good care of it). Sometimes, the pedals don't work. What I mean is, when you turn the pedals, the chain turns the rear wheel, however, sometimes the rear wheel doesn't turn... its like pedaling backwards.
    But sometimes it does work. Mostly when it is warm.
    Its like there is some engagement pin inside the rear wheel that sometimes engages and sometimes doesn't..
    Anyone know? many thanks!

      ***** thanks for your answer, I tried metal but did not buy, anyhow looked good and maybe I'll use it in my next bike.
      Right now I'm using one which has a combination of metal and plastic, the both together as a sandwich and as far I did more than 1500 km and sounds as in the first day of use. I'm planning to use it at least 4000 Km or more. Let's see its reliability.

      Hi Jorge, what is your top speed with this motor and what voltage are you using? I just got an e-scooter (Motorino XPh) and I want to upgrade it so I can reach about 75-80 KPH. I am looking at German-made because the Chinese-made is too cheaply made and not reliable. My scooter only has 200 KMs on it and already broke down. The controller is faulty I think?

    Do I see plastic planet gears? Really? What's going to wear out first? And because this is a geared motor, how is the torque being reacted? Is it just going through flats on the axle and into the dropout, or is there some sort of bellcrank going to the frame? If you need a bellcrank to react your brakes on a beach cruiser, why don't you need one to react the torque of a powerful electric motor? Not only will flats wear the dropout and the axle interface, the oscillating loads (speeding up and slowing down) will also cause the axle nuts or whatever retention system is in use to loosen. And those plastic gears will also be seeing those oscillating loads. Duck!

    Why the wheels are plastic? Note that the 3 gears are on the inside of that shelf. Per wheel at least 2 to 3 teeth are having contact, so up to 9 teeth are delivering power to the outside. This reduces any wear problems.

    • @xmoroseguyx
      @xmoroseguyx 10 років тому

      Well, They use neoprene for the two cogs on a derailleur right ? It might also be because they have to be non magnetic, So as not to interfere with the motor itself, They would be tested for reliability, And should outlast 3000 charges from the battery, Which should cover the manufacturer beyond the warranty

    • @dtiydr
      @dtiydr 10 років тому +1

      Do you know what the very most common occurring problem on hubs with plastic gears is? Yep, broken plastic gears.
      And no, they don´t have to be non magnetic because the hall sensors are very close to the magnets in the hub. What I think is because of noise but metal gears can be side cut (or what it now is called, forgot) and that would significantly reduce the noise to a level maybe even better then straight plastic gears but then the manufacturer cant sell expensive plastic gears that would break.

    • @xmoroseguyx

    • @reidwelch8419
      @reidwelch8419 6 років тому

      That's right! The varieties and capabilities of plastics are limitless. IF the motor is well designed, I want plastic gears. Otherwise, metal gears require mucho lubrication mas than just grease and will be noisier by far.
