Love your playing Dale. It’s what an R13 should sound like. Thank you. Bill. UK

    Tank you, Dale.
Would you know which brands of clarinet were played by the more notable clarinetists in the jazz/swing era of 1935 to 1950? I have in mind artists such as Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, and Jimmy Dorsey. Thank you for whatever insight you are able to provide. Kevin McIver

Great sound . Are you playing a Chederville Mouthpiece? Which one do you use?

You play beautifully! I appreciate the review very much. What makes no sense to me is when you quote the numbers that are in the thousands for instance "70,000" and focus on that rather than stating the year clearly that you're demonstrating therefore I can't really process your comments clearly for the model year you are presenting.

Hi Dale; thanks for the vid. I have six R13 clarinets currently for sale ranging in age from 1928 to the mid 80s. Four are Bbs, two are As and I have a LOT of barrels with them. Contact me for details. Thanks.

I have a 1969 A R13. It plays flat with my mouth piece, RV5 LYRE profile 13. Any idea why? I have a custom barrel, shorter, to be able to play pitch 440. A 63mm barrel.

What strength reeds do you play? Typically a softer reed will play flat, especially higher. Common problems to check: if the pads are(n't) sealing, and if the key heights are too low. Finally: you may consider changing the register tube.

      @@petitroque1499 I would suggest 3.5's with a 5RV. I would also suggest trying the D'addario X0

I currently have a 67,6xx series on my desk from a friend. Do you know what year this might have been made? Plays well, but it really needs an overhaul ...upper joint pads are leaking pretty pad. She's looking to sell it. Not sure if I want to get it fixed and keep it.

That horn is from 1962...prime vintage, in my opinion. It should have solid german silver keywork. I've had two 68xxx Bbs, and a 65xxx A. In my experience, I do prefer the projection of the earlier 60xxxs (and mid 50xxxs) but the late 60xxxs have a very large, robust sound. The great Everett Matson played a 67xxx for a while (or his wife did). I think intonation is better, and they feel more modern than any horns before, and even some of the early 70xxxs. Definitely a great soloistic horn! Although of course there are variations with every horn (especially Buffet has always been inconsistent) so I'd wait until it's overhauled before you decide, if possible! What mouthpiece are you playing?

@@DaleFedele I'm currently playing on a M30 Lyre or a BD5. I'm currently trying to see if I should just buy this horn from her instead of selling it. I have no idea how much it's worth as-is.

@@tomgross8931 The German Silver horns sell for a lot less on eBay...simply because they are not shiny. I think $800 would be fair to both parties, especially needing an ohaul
