Lovely to hear an Australian accent. I migrated from America to Australia in 1982. Freedom From Religion Foundation was fundamental in my deconversion from Christianity. Thank God! No pun intended
Life - especially in these fractured United States - can be dreary and stressful; the religion industry, every evolving, now steps in to answer both charges. It works for many people, at least for a while, because it's jazzy crazy and sexy. It's a tribe to belong to, with a narrative that can exalt the miserable lonely souls looking for salvation from a shitty life. In short, religion is an answer to existential misery, and that's why it's still around, long after we've known better. We members of FFRF need to remember this. All our logical arguments are so much hot air to these folks. I for one am worried about our fate with these loons and their guns and craziness. Elle here is brilliant and spot-on; the question that really matters is, can her wisdom and insights reach those who really need to hear it?
This may be a bit off topic but I was wondering, with elections coming up, if there is a free-thinkers political party? And if so, what is it called and who are the candidates
It makes sense. I used to be a Jehovah's Witness. We were waiting for the end of the world predicted to arrive no later than October of 1975. When I broke free for good I gave little thought to it. I was just grateful to be out of the fold, but since the internet I started seeing UA-cam videos and they had a graph showing their membership over the last 150 years or so. Whenever it started to dip they would name another date. It started with 1878, then 1916, 1925, then 1975. Each time when they named a new date membership soared. I guess you have to come up with something to sell your nonsense. Like all things in life/history there are cycles and hopefully this one will end soon.
If true, this is frightening, I thought in the 2020's we were way beyond this but maybe it is because I live, in the liberal Northeast where I see churches closing their doors because of lack of congregants.
It doesn’t mean anything. Theists just add “militant” as a pejorative to any atheist who speaks out. Famous militants would include Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Matt Dillahunty, and Dan Barker.
In a firm believer in free thought, but be fair, I no longer believe in the literal Bible. But let them have their argument, then respond. I don't want to shut anyone up, but debate it.
Thank you for having knowledgeable, and interesting guests talk about what they know as truth.
Great show! Dan and Annie Laurie, you are national treasures! 🥰
Despite the absence of any standard level of charisma, I love watching them. They do some of the most important work

I wish I could visit *"Freethought Hall"* in Madison Wisconsin. There should be such places all over the country.

Being among 2 billion Christians in some kind of heaven is worth going to hell for
The poor turning to Madness because they can't afford Healthcare. Or... Maybe they could just vote for different politicians? Perish the thought!
She mentioned militant atheists. Never heard of that. What does it mean?

There is no evidence, so there is no argument. “That which can be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence”… and with prejudice.
Hitchens’ Razor.
Pentecostalism is a deep, pocketed movement!??? Lol
