I’m learning PowerPoint in class I am taking. The issue is that our computers, that we are given, cannot display animations and transitions properly; I see where PowerPoint is coming from. I use google slides because I’ve been using it for around 5 years.

I literally had an entire class that mostly covered how to properly use google slides but after I moved to a new city and started going to a new school, I was told I wasn't allowed to use ANY google app such as docs, slides, sheets etc... Safe to say that school was pretty bad.

You forget the most important feature of all. Google Slides are FREE, PowerPoint is expensive. With Google Slides i can work on any pc, ppt not.
And One other thing, in a professional presentation (business or other), we must not use animations.

I have presentation this Thursday and I use my chromebook, my question is do I need to download PowerPoint or slides is more than enough for a school presentation

You can't download PowerPoint to a Chromebook - Microsoft Office doesn't work on Chromebooks. You could try PowerPoint online, but its functionality is very limited. I would take your PPTX file, upload it to Drive, convert it to Slides, and then go through the entire presentation to make sure it looks and behaves the way you want it to, as sometimes PowerPoint formatting and animations and transitions don't translate when brought into Google Slides. What do you mean when you said that there isn't a script editor in PowerPoint? Is Macro different from Google Slides' script editor?

For all you there, Power Point does not have "text spread around images" option! How stupid is that. How many hours humanity burned in manually adjusting the text around the images?

Power point is far better. Very difficult to add maths equation in g slides. Effect option are also very poor in g slides
