Two of my favorite vocalists. Beautiful together.

Love this song and love hearing their voices together on it. I'm always so in awe when I hear Richard and Linda's version it's hard to relax into it.

@redsfanstu - well said.....I would never have known Richard Thompson is not for my adoration of Shawn Colvin....she's way cuter and a much better singer but I'm now just beginning my exploration of Sir Richard....so thank you! Peace.

A lovely cover. Do yourself a favor and check out the original Richard and Linda Thompson version as well.

Dear Shawn Colvin, I still love you. Why shouldn’t I? Expecting you to love me…now that’s ‘nuts’…even I know that…but I’m wishing you every good thing and you are in my prayers, which are constant now…I’m in a perpetual state of prayer now…it’s necessary. Anyway, I hope you’re well. I’m doing ok…at a Starbucks for the 1st time in awhile and enjoying being out and free among others and not standing out as a homeless weirdo…as long as I keep my mouth shut! I’m singing in chapel 2-3 times per day and my voice really helps the mix…no, it really does! I’m a great singer in case you didn’t know! Like you care…right? Anyway, after we die I hope we’ll be friends and go on another adventure together where I have better luck and stuff…no, I know I had plenty of chances this time around. It looks like I may actually be able to recover somewhat from my latest fuck-up…huge…cause I really thought I was an eternal goner…now I’m not so sure…feeling the workings of grace in my life again and the place I’ve fallen to has everything to do with it…it’s a Holy Ghost Building…for sure! So, I love you Shawn! God Bless You! Please keep me in your beautiful prayers and make my day by reposting that rendition of ‘Another Long One’ where I posted the long poem…please. Peace

    Down At The Rescue Mission
    They made a decision
the old man needs a bottom rack
    he’s broken and bent
and it’s not just his back
    he sings Shawn Colvin songs
    he’s a real sad sack
    and there’s nowhere he belongs
he came in drunk as a skunk
    beyond hope
prayin’ only for a bottom bunk
“a Heart needs a home he sang”
    but oh! how he stunk
    finally he passed out
and slipped away the next day
    down at the Rescue Mission
    the chaplains pray
for lost causes and broken men
    thank you Jesus! Halleluia!
    Praise you for everything
down at the Rescue Mission they sing
    give us a bottom rack
    for this homeless soul
    that’s never comin’ back
cause a Heart needs a home
    no matter how broken
    wherever they roam
    end
October 14, 2023 - Maine- I have a bottom rack in Heaven Shawn just so you 'know'. Kisses. Arthur
This was written at the 'Waterfront Mission' in Penscecola, Florida. It was no where near any water and was a long walk to anywhere in blazing sun with no shade whatsoever but they kept me 6 weeks when the limit was 10 days. It was built with several million by a local car dealership and had a huge chapel with 'services' three times a day and I was at everyone of them and they had a great house band that did all the spirituals of the day. Awesome! Sang my ass off but never from the stage though I was invited. Good and plentiful food. God bless that Holy Building. Peace. Love. Kisses. Arthur

Great cover. I first heard this when I had the "Beat The Retreat" album. Dunno where it is now, so thanks for posting.

Great version, excellent duet. I prefer RT's version on the Celtschmerz cd, as I think he's the better, more soulful singer and... no-brainer... the guitar is brilliant. Something in RT's voice is untouchable. But this is a great version.

I like this version but there is no comparison to the original. Linda Thompson is a next level singer and if she was American instead of Scottish she would have been a massive country singer.
