Good tutorial. I would rate it 8 out of 10. With the music, I rate it two out of 10.

The time it could take to do this setup, a person could install a ReadyTemp ATC3000 under their sink and have intermittent warm water circulate throughout their hot and cold water pipes to prevent pipes from freezing. No annual inspection like heat tape. Installation takes all of 20min to connect four hoses and plug the unit into power.

I think this is intended more for industrial use heat trace systems. NOT home use. Very few people use heat tracing in their homes I would think.

These heated wires are to prevent ice dams in your gutters in the winter. I have them the length of my gutter on the back of our home that always has huge icicles even after we added more insulation to the house. That part faces west and on sunny days and cold nights ice was always a problem. Very good and clear directions in this video! Mine work!

Since when is the black wire considered the neutral on the power supply cable?

    Thank you great tutorial.
What type of sealing tape did you use on end of cable? Is it permanent rubber or does it harden?

So this is a wire I could use to keep clay pots warm at night … I’m trying to root cactus so there will not be any water going into the pots… I’m just trying to keep the dry soil above 70 degrees at night do the cactus start to form roots ..thanks

Can you remove the thermostat that controls the on off on heat tape?

Outstanding Video. You possess outstanding elex skills and your processes are easily at aircraft electrician level. Not knowing much about the function f the core material I'm wondering why the core is stripped back then essentially replaced with heat shrink? Is the core material a resistor?
Could multiple heat cables be installed so long as the power supply wire and breaker is large enough to handle the wattage?

I seriously hope you are joking about this guy being a skilled electrician. Calling the black wire the neutral, applying an illegal crimp on the ground crimp ring, and using tools that no good electrician would ever use unless those were the only options available. Like you, I was wondering why one would completely strip the core and then replace that factory applied insulation with heat shrink tubing. But upon some investigation, I found that this is the method instructed by the manufacturer, therefore that is how it is supposed to be done.

now that I saw the video on how the heat tape works I can see why you don want it to run up in to box to far in.

, i have taken the heating wire out of an electric blanket, i am wondering if i can, cut it down to a shorter length and add a male and female connectors through various points, of the full length of the heating wire, can you give me any information if this can be done, and if so , what i would need to do this thanks

How do you supply power to the cable junction box? Can you attach the power wires to a two or three prong plug and just plug it into an outlet?

    • @hvactech77
      @hvactech77 5 років тому

Yes u can. Prefer plug with ground. Also confirm the heat trace is for voltage ur using.

Great tutorial, I'd ditch the crappy porn music though, it adds nothing, and is exceptionally distracting with the constant drone of "Hello" in the background.

***** I agree. The music is awful and very distracting. "Hello, yeaow, hey-you" - make it stop! please!

Why strip all the insulation back only to add heat shrink & reinsulate. Am I missing something? Only reason I can guess is it make the wires a little more pliable? Why not cut down the middle of the two wires once the inner jacket is exposed (taking care not to cut into section exposing either of the 2 wires, if you do then use heat shrink)...? Seems like you're stripping the cables out only to have to reinsulate. Understand the concept though - getting 2 wires out to connect to power source and also keeping them apart & insulated away from each other.
Also, seems like we have a lot of people here who watch 70's porn (or did at one time) lol.

    No thermostat ?
And unless wires at end of tape at V notch are assured to be connected - --. No circuit --- no heat
