In this video Geoff Calver takes us thru the Black Magic of Coal firing. In this case it is a LMS Garratt Gauge 1 built by Barrett engineering. Geoff shows us all the tricks of how to do it and he being a driver on the real engines himself, knows a lot about coal firing. Thank you and thanks to Geoff for this great video. What a locomotive as support , that helps :+)
Feeding the fire box is not obvious, this huge locomotive is small in fact and needs a lot of coa added permanently. But coal is the Graal for the steam passionate I am, even if the launch procedure requires a lot of patience. To my opinion, the best moment of this ride is at the end of the video when the train starts slowly, it sounds fully realistic.

Yes it is, but under steam it is very hot :)
