She'd known him the longest; he was her first real friend in Oz.
Full story: in an early draft of the script, Dorothy was 19 years old and had an innocent crush on Hunk the farmhand, who turned up in her dream as the Scarecrow. Mervyn LeRoy, the producer, wanted to hew as close to the book as possible, so he nixed that idea and made Dorothy a child again; the only vestige of that subplot is Dorothy's parting words to the Scarecrow.

Good singing but not a fan how dorthy gets to sing songs about them yearning and wanting more, instead of letting them sing then joining in after learning about them

This is actually part of the variety show from years ago where they were auditioning for the role of Dorothy for a stage show. This is during the semi-final, I think, when they had the final three choices, and had each one sing one of the variations of the ‘If I Only’ song.
