Fijian Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama tours Vanuabalavu, Lau.

  • Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama today reassured Fijians living on the island of Vanuabalavu of Government’s commitment to restore normalcy in the their lives and the lives of other Fijians affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston.
    While speaking to villagers from Mualevu, Sawana and Lomaloma, Prime Minister Bainimarama reiterated his assurance on the relief and rehabilitation of the island’s worst affected villages and met with those severely affected to get their views on how to progress with rehabilitation efforts.
    Prime Minister Bainimarama also requested that they share their experiences with him and he urged them to prepare themselves for future natural disasters as we were still in the cyclone period.
    “The reason for the visit today was so that we could come and see the progress of the rehabilitation works being carried out on the island after the destruction caused by the cyclone.
    “I know that you are also aware of the nationwide devastation left behind by tropical cyclone Winston and that it will take a long time for all rehabilitation works to be completed and for your lives to return to normal,” said the Prime Minister.
    Prime Minister Bainimarama also asked for their understanding in relief and rehabilitation efforts currently underway given the extent of damages throughout the country.
    The Head of Government also expressed his gratitude to the New Zealand Defense Force for the tremendous rehabilitation and construction work being carried out on the island. He also commended all the international humanitarian aid that had reached those severely affected.
    PM Bainimarama toured the villages of Mualevu, Boitaci, Narocivo, Lomaloma , Sawana, Dakuilomaloma and Levukana.
