While I understand wanting to get the old cart out of there to have room to move and work in the mine, why not load it on a truck to take it for restoration while you have it out of there?

Originally was the cars pulled by mules? In later times was the carts still pulled by mules . Or was this done with an engine? Just curious.
Did the wheels still turn after 70 years or did you have to grease them? I would think that they'd be seized up.

My ancestors came to the anthracite fields from Ludgvan Parish in Cornwall to mine - they were tin miners and farmers

That’s the eventual plan. Getting the mine open to the public is the first priority.
