RIP Amy, such a beautiful sensitive artist who unfortunately had lots of mental health issues and got caught up in a weird drug scene in north London. She was from a Jewish very working class London family- her dad was a cab driver who used to play a lot of Sinatra and Billie Holliday to her. She went to a prestigious music school and was part of the national youth jazz orchestra. She was also a great guitarist. I met her briefly when we were neighbours in 2006. Really sweet down to earth person. When she passed I was heartbroken- I still am to this day.
Amy went to Sylvia Young's Theatre school, same school as my son. She was expelled from the school, she clearly knew there was not much they could teach her, clearly she was right. Sylvia Young was also Jewish and would often wave the school fee for exceptional talent, Amy was in that category.

Then when she finally passed, suddenly all of the publications and programs that put her through that were calling it a tragedy. They lauded her talent, told her life story with compassion that would have meant a lot more if it had been around when she was still here and struggling. They hit her when she was down, over and over. Then called her a tragic genius when she was gone, way too early. Sorry, this is the first time I’ve listened to her music in a while. The great Amy. Beautiful voice - one in a million, and yes, the Nina Simone comparison is a good one, as is the "singing in slow motion" description. Sadly, a member of the "27 Club" - she never reached their 28th birthday. There is a terrific documentary about her simply called "Amy", which is partly uplifting and partly devastatingly sad - she was a restless troubled spirit. Awww I’m so glad you mentioned Nina Simone!!! I could never put my finger on it … she is so giving me some Nina vibes!!! Amy was a real one tho her voice!!!!😢😊 RIP
Amy Winehouse is the most recent member of what is known as the 27 Club; artists who died at that age. For a couple of years before her death, she would voice a pessimistic fatalistic fear that she was going to join that club. And she did.
Beautiful artist. The back to black album really encapsulates the pain she felt. Very heartfelt and real. Her first album "Frank" is my favorite. More cheeky, a little less emotionally raw. They both have very different feels. Regardless, she was phenomenal and relatable.
Right - “so vintage and timeless”, “singing in slow motion”. You are always spot on! This woman in her brief life, imprinted her image on a TIMELESS soundtrack. She is one of my favs of ALL time, even tho of another generation. I look forward to meeting her one day. She’ll be back. Will you be there? I know I sound crazy, but God never lies. I’m serious.
@@peeoncarl6 oh, sure. Stronger than me is for Frank album, this is her first. Her second album, Back to black is obviously her most famous and emotional album. And the third album, Lioness: hidden treasure. You can find here original Tears dry version.
@@peeoncarl6 if you want live performances you should start looking from end of 2006 and beginning of 2007 till August. Later she was still awesome, but not in good shape, so for begging that will be great. From Frank album you can also find some great performances in 2004. She had great gig in church in 2006, this was brilliant
Amy composes and sings from her personal experiences, that's why her lyrics are powerful, and they convey those feelings. She was influenced by the great blues divas Billie Holiday Etta James...and as Bono (U2) said "Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief all kill their inspiration and sing about the grief" R.I.P Amy
Black is also an old street word for heroin. But could definitely be depression. She is the side piece in the song and he goes back to his wife and family.
Jane H commenting …. Amy Winehouse was a petite girl with the most wonderful, unique voice. She co-wrote most of her songs, & some were based on her own life. She had the most incredible career ahead of her. It’s just so tragic that she passed at just 27 years old of an accidental drug overdose. The music world certainly lost someone very special.
I really liked your comments on Amy’svoice and lyrics, she was indeed a phenomenal artist. For more of her music, try listening to “Valerie” and “My Tears They Dry on Their Own”.
Polo, I’m shocked that you never heard this as it was so huge during its time. Your comments and comparisons to Nina Simone are on point. Amy is an old soul. Can you imagine what she would have brought us had she not died so prematurely? So happy you were exposed as she changed my life.
This is a classic- The WHOLE album you can play from 1st to the last track. Its an eery heartwrenching beautiful song. she exposed her soul ..I get the same reaction each and every time I hear this song.. So sad and tragic.. A unique talent she was
she was the best singer/songwriter of her generation. Forget Adele. She was the one who could compete with everyone and win. So so sad she died so young.
I remember years ago a friend of mine showed me “ Valerie” and I felt instantly in love, not only with her voice but also with the soul within her voice. I asked him: who is she? He said: Amy winehouse. She died a couple of years ago. I can’t really or precisely explain it but when he said that I got a feeling like something really precious was some how stolen from the world. Just like Janis Joplin..
Off the charts musicianship. Hard to describe but she could take a fairly simple melody and repetition and just inject it with lightning and kaleidoscopic colour. Just a wonder
An amazing talent that left us way to soon😢 I was lucky enough to see her live in ‘08 she was a tiny woman at 5’3” but sang like she was twice her size.
She did a very tiny gig in a small village in Ireland called Dingle, Dingle has a very strong musical history. Many artist travel to Dingle, all artist leave any ego at home because 95%of the village are musically talented. She performed in a tiny church

She was so good that Tony Bennett recorded a duet with her. I still remember my first Amy song " you know I'm no good " Still , with this BtoB , her best thing. Old friend had pub and played a new thing for me. Great musical moment . Lately not that many anymore Maybe Mimi and Josephine with Creep .Don't laugh , they're phenomenal. I mean the best 2 voice harmony in a long time. Try it .

I liked your reaction to Amy , she was such a beautifully troubled soul and I miss her 🥀 Please react to "My Tears Dry On Their Own" by her, it's my favourite along with Valerie.
Stunning Voice .All the songs she wrote and sang are brilliant. Two stand out for me personally are Love is a losing game and Valerie The acoustic version.
Thank you polo for covering this song. This is one of my fav. Amy was a power house of talent . I miss her and her backing singers which were X2 men.... loved them and the way they moved/ danced .... it added to the performance ❤... please watch live they're live performances ❤

@@ben-schulman Most of what you sent are covers of songs from the 20th century. Also, name an artist from the 21st century who had better lyricism than Amy.
@@ilovemusic5558 I think I already did. Listen, everybody likes the artist they like. My point was simply that it is silly to think the one you or me like best is the GOAT. What is true is that, in spite of the many phenomenal artists out there, there are only a handful of truly elite, special artists currently active today. These are artists like Floor Jansen, Lara Fabian, Angela Jordan, and Beth Hart. Would Amy have fit into that group? Probably, but death at an early age means your discography is limited to 2 studio albums, magnified fame, and a lot of unrealized potential. Beth nearly met the exact same fate with rising fame in 1999 and near death from mental illness, drug addiction, and anorexia at age 27. Fortunately, she is such the survivor that she made it through and has produced 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. Now, what I sent you was 5 performances between 2004 and 2018 to demonstrate her phenomenal vocal power, range, tone, skill, stage presence, musicianship, and song writing talent. Only 2 of the 5 were covers (that's not "most"). She writes her own music and lyrics but is also well known for her studio collaborations with guitarist Joe Bonamassa with whom she produced 3 cover blues and soul cover albums in 2011, 2013, & 2018. (This is also the reason the 2 coves are not from the 21st century--they're classic blues & soul standards). Because she died early, Amy's career lasted less than a decade. It would have been the same for Beth , who was more of a rock n roller at the time, if she hadn't survived (although not the same level of fame Amy had achieved). After getting booted from Atlantic Records in 2000 (drugs & mental instability), Beth resurrected herself as a big star in Europe (2003-2011) and then again in the US (2012 to present). She has produced 7 #1 Blues albums after the age of 41. Because she survived, Beth's phenomenal talent has continued to evolve and expand from Rock and Blues-Rock, to Blues, R&B, Jazz, and American Ballads. So, it's hard to claim an artist is the greatest in the "21st century" and that no other "has even scratched the surface of her talent" when they have produced little in the way of a discography and had insufficient time to grow, develop, and realized their full potential. Hopefully, though, apart from AW, you'll see there are a few select living musicians that are simply breath-taking every time they perform. Here's 5 more performances that demonstrate the mind blowing range and talent of BH. Enjoy: “Mechanical Heart” (from ‘Live in Inas Nacht’ in Hamburg, Germany, Sept 2022; original song about her husband): ua-cam.com/video/ovBwnRhOziQ/v-deo.html "House of Sin” (original from 2005 Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf, Netherlands): ua-cam.com/video/yLv0QuW8hHo/v-deo.html “Sister Heroine” (from the 2018 Royal Albert Hall concert; about losing an older sister to AIDS): ua-cam.com/video/uT7_ZPIAoC4/v-deo.html “Whole Lotta Love” (killer acoustic version of the Zeppelin song in a tiny French radio studio, 2012): ua-cam.com/video/lUaut2m4YaI/v-deo.html “Lay Your Hands on Me” (original from the 2004 Paradiso concert; Beth on the keys): ua-cam.com/video/c68YQrIL4q0/v-deo.html
@@ilovemusic5558 I thought I was eminently clear--although Beth had her 1st major label record in AD 1996 (the 20th century), she forged the vast majority of her work post 2000 (the 21st century). Amy was born in 1983 and Beth in 1972. Amy's first album (Frank) was released in 2003 and second (Back to Black) in 2006--both early 2st century as you so astutely observed. Beth's first two albums with Atlantic Records were released in 1996 & 1999. Her career resurrection--the part Amy never got the chance to do--was also in 2003 (also the 21st century) with Leave The Light On. Now, at 50, she's tackled rock n roll's most hallowed ground with her 'Tribute to Led Zeppelin' album released in February 2022 and is not even close to peaking. Clearly way beyond "scratching the surface of (Amy's) talent"...but everybody has an opinion, but it doesn't necessarily mean the opinion comports with the facts.
RIP AMY !! I absolutely Love Amy's voice. Yes, her voice is so old school. Her catalog Is incredible. Please listen to some more, You won't be disappointed. Thanks Polo💞

She wrote this song with the fantastic Mark Ronson.
Beautiful woman from North London, I've always loved her. Love her and miss her.
Amy was one of a kind reminds me of Janis not voice wise but inner pain wise ,both Unforgetable and timeless
I'm so jealous you can discover her music for very first time. I'm in love since 2007.
I just discovered her RN, do you have any recommendations? So far i love this song, and stronger than me.
@@peeoncarl6 oh, sure. Stronger than me is for Frank album, this is her first. Her second album, Back to black is obviously her most famous and emotional album. And the third album, Lioness: hidden treasure. You can find here original Tears dry version.
@@peeoncarl6 this third album was released after her death.
She is an old soul in a young body, She wrote all her songs ...music and lyrics !! What a talent !!!!!
Back to black she is mourning him missing in her life as though he died.
"Black" is her word for depression, alcohol abuse, etc.
And then she joined him. His was pearl, hers was black.
Black is also an old street word for heroin. But could definitely be depression. She is the side piece in the song and he goes back to his wife and family.
How I wish she never left us. How many more beautiful musics she could give us.
RIP AMY 💔
She made her talent seem so effortless. Such a shame she never found the help she needed.
She did have help apparently and rehab…she had bad ongoing bulimia which killed her!
Her family and associates ignored her eating disorder. ED’s are the number one killer of all mental illnesses.
Alcohol actually; she was clean of drugs, at the autopsy report, poor kid tried to replace her need....
Amy is so sadly missed. She sang from her heart and soul. Love her music.
I really liked your comments on Amy’svoice and lyrics, she was indeed a phenomenal artist. For more of her music, try listening to “Valerie” and “My Tears They Dry on Their Own”.
Tears dry on their own 😕😕
Tears Dry.
A unique talent she was
Polo
You are so right about her pain.
I love Amy. Wish she was still here.
she was the best singer/songwriter of her generation. Forget Adele. She was the one who could compete with everyone and win. So so sad she died so young.
I agree
Adele would be irrelevant if Amy was still alive
@@Lass1888 This is funny bcz Adele released 21 when Amy was alive n outperformed her albums💀u guys like overrating artist after they've passed away
She's deeply missed. Good thing I knew and appreciated her music while she was still alive and on top.
I love that you love her - that you recognize good quality. She is a unique singer and poet 💫
My favourite part of the video is her voice. It's all soul, no artifice.
Amy was a beautiful and talented soul❤️
I remember years ago a friend of mine showed me “ Valerie” and I felt instantly in love, not only with her voice but also with the soul within her voice. I asked him: who is she?
He said: Amy winehouse. She died a couple of years ago.
I can’t really or precisely explain it but when he said that I got a feeling like something really precious was some how stolen from the world.
Just like Janis Joplin..
Oh how I miss Amy! Frank is one of the best debuts ever! Her voice and music is timeless 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Welcome to the world's Amy Winehouse. It's so beautiful. The comparison with Nina Simone is very apt, it is the magic of Soul.
She's definitely a great jazz artist
Off the charts musicianship. Hard to describe but she could take a fairly simple melody and repetition and just inject it with lightning and kaleidoscopic colour. Just a wonder
Amy was a total legend. I was lucky enough to see her performing live in Punchestown Ireland. She was a Queen. ❤
An amazing talent that left us way to soon😢
I was lucky enough to see her live in ‘08 she was a tiny woman at 5’3” but sang like she was twice her size.
She did a very tiny gig in a small village in Ireland called Dingle, Dingle has a very strong musical history. Many artist travel to Dingle, all artist leave any ego at home because 95%of the village are musically talented. She performed in a tiny church
Amazing how hypnotizing the pendulum is to the beat of the song .
Heartbreaking. Here we all still are & that's not nothing. Cheers.
Might I suggest listening to her acoustic… love is a losing game.
She was such a fabulous throwback and a huge loss. I always think of all the great music she would have made.
Truly a once in a generation talent. But heavy is the head that wears the crown.
Her voice exactly matches her image. She is a classic, old school, songstress.
She was amazing she wore her hair and makeup like we did in the 60s
Amy was a Beautiful misunderstood Soul. Her voice was unique and will live on forever. Rip Beautiful Angel ❤
One of the very very best ..vocals ..man or women of all time ...Amy Winehouse ..a true true natural talent....then now and always !! ❤❤❤❤❤
Polo, you are every fxckin’ freakin’ time pure, real, honest and additionally completely grounded. I love your captivating spirits you constantly exhale, my man! I wouldn’t know what, when, how but in my humble opinion you are born for and shall rise to a great(er) and greatest audience with your very show to deliver yourself to all the empty soulless minds and lost characters thirsty for life and numb enough to not detecting it.
You're right, Amy is special. No wonder you liked this track. Great day Sir Polo. And your listeners too.
Well said
I agree 100%
She was so good that Tony Bennett recorded a duet with her. I still remember my first Amy song " you know I'm no good " Still , with this BtoB , her best thing. Old friend had pub and played a new thing for me. Great musical moment . Lately not that many anymore Maybe Mimi and Josephine with Creep .Don't laugh , they're phenomenal. I mean the best 2 voice harmony in a long time. Try it .
we lost something phenomenal. I still ache when I listen to her. I recommend listening to live versions, she always sang each song differently, I guess depending on how she felt but boy, she was so gifted. rip dear Amy, bless you for blessing us with your gift x
Such a talented women I love her music & personality RIP Amy
I liked your reaction to Amy , she was such a beautifully troubled soul and I miss her 🥀 Please react to "My Tears Dry On Their Own" by her, it's my favourite along with Valerie.
Yes that song is an amazing song and it has been there to lift me up so many times
Stunning Voice .All the songs she wrote and sang are brilliant. Two stand out for me personally are Love is a losing game and Valerie The acoustic version.
Valerie was a cover version.
Thank you polo for covering this song. This is one of my fav. Amy was a power house of talent . I miss her and her backing singers which were X2 men.... loved them and the way they moved/ danced .... it added to the performance ❤... please watch live they're live performances ❤
RIP Amy. I feel the song is mourning the end of the relationship & she goes back to feeling depressed & dead inside. Poor woman 😢
Amy still lives today thru individuals like POLO who learn of her special talents. Amy died in 2011 ... over a decade ago ... but yet I still feel she is here.
I just recently discovered Amy about a year ago. She was amazing..
When I first heard Back to Black, I thought of Etta James I'd rather go blind, live 1975
Sadly the brightest stars usually burn out too quick. She surely left a long lasting legacy in the short time we had her 👏 rest in peace Amy 🙏
I loved this woman. She was great. Sad that she passed away at such a young age. Creepy story. A statue of an angel fell near her grave during her burial ceremony.
Wow!
Back to black is not about returning to using substances, in the UK black is worn when you lose someone you love, you're mourning their loss. The video even shows her at a funeral, wearing black.
There is no artist in the 21st century who has even scratched the surface of her talent. RIP Amy
Really, as they say in Pulp Fiction, “that’s a bold statement…” This will change your mind:

Enjoy:
“Mechanical Heart” (from ‘Live in Inas Nacht’ in Hamburg, Germany, Sept 2022; original song about her husband): ua-cam.com/video/ovBwnRhOziQ/v-deo.html
"House of Sin” (original from 2005 Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf, Netherlands): ua-cam.com/video/yLv0QuW8hHo/v-deo.html
“Sister Heroine” (from the 2018 Royal Albert Hall concert; about losing an older sister to AIDS): ua-cam.com/video/uT7_ZPIAoC4/v-deo.html
“Whole Lotta Love” (killer acoustic version of the Zeppelin song in a tiny French radio studio, 2012): ua-cam.com/video/lUaut2m4YaI/v-deo.html
“Lay Your Hands on Me” (original from the 2004 Paradiso concert; Beth on the keys): ua-cam.com/video/c68YQrIL4q0/v-deo.html
You clearly don’t know the difference between the 20th and 21st century.
Her catalog
Is incredible. Please listen to some more,
You won't be disappointed. Thanks Polo💞
She's got the voice of an old soul, full of depth and emotion.
you can't go wrong with any amy performance! first time i heard her and saw her live, it blew me away! pure magic!
So not true! She was an incredible talent but she had some stinkers
@@matt.willoughbyshe really didn’t. The only bad performances were towards the end when she was in the throes of her demons. And those aren’t even performances. It is a troubled soul being exploited on stage, incoherent and therefore incapable of lucidly performing
Not sure exacly how old this beatuful talented girl was when she died, but i have it in my head that she joined the 27 club. Tragic loss to the mudic industry
Trying to make me go to rehab is almost autobiographical and is a great song. She was a user and a drinker and i think she died whilst trying to stay sober.
Can’t say enough about how I love this woman. She composed and wrote everything she ever did. This song was not co-written. Amy wrote all her music. She was brilliant. She had such a tumultuous life. Died at 27. Rest in Peace, Amy. She is for the ages. She’s been compared to the famous Billie Holiday. Listen to her. Amy is as good if not better. Which says something.
Please watch the documentary “Amy” from 2017. I won the Academy award for best documentary that year. It is outstanding.
This song was co written with Mark Ronson. It says so in the sleeve notes of the album.
@@pobstrelhe helped her refine it for the radio but she wrote the song on her own in an hour. She was a genius.
Another amazing talent, taken away.
Amy is one of my favorite singers of ALL TIME , timeless voice like you said. Please check out more of her music! Amy Winehouse - Rehab would be a good one to do next
There's not one female artist around nowadays, who can even begin to match Amy's talent!
Loved Amy's voice she was definitely one of a kind an amazing person amazing voice very sadly missed RIP amy
Have been waiting for this- finally! please check out her song Valerie.
Her cover version of The Zuton's song Valerie.
Some people get really popular and famous because they’re genuinely great. Amy was one of those people. Such a loss for our generation, but at least we have 2 amazing albums.
Amy was born on the 14th September 1983 in London, two days before I had my daughter, also here in London. I always think of Amy when my daughter's birthday is approaching.
she had a black soul, she had songs like this at 19 year ols, salam raimi her first producer said if youre like this at 18 i cant imagine at 25 and he was right
please listen to her "Frank" album its my fav EVER its a masterpiece she wrote at 19 years of age, its crazy man
she was supernaturally gifted
Non stop goosebumps 😮
Her voice is amazing. Watch her so the Valerie unplugged. Her and a guitar. The world lost an amazing voice when she passed
