BikePark Wales: A Normal Person's Review

  • Is Bike Park Wales scary? Should I be worried about it? Or is it just the most wonderful spot to throw your bike around? A massive downhill park, in the south of Wales, BikePark Wales has a deserved reputation for fun and excitement and adventure, especially on youtube, but it can often be difficult to see whether it's suitable for you. Tom and I went, as relatively beginner mountain bikers, to see what all the fuss was about, and whether you should check it out! Spoiler alert - it's amazing fun, and suitable for all levels!

    LOVED watching this and so pleased to hear you didn't find it intimidating here! We put in a huge amount of effort to try and make this a facility for everyone and it puts a smile on our faces to hear you enjoyed your trip. Thank you

    Nice to see a video from the perspective of two people who are building their confidence rather than basically Pro-ams who ride with a level of skill I'll never achieve!

    Hey fellow Orbea Laufey rider here. I have been BPW twice so far on my hardtail and loved it. Booked for April 2023 (next month, can't wait)!!! Looks like you guys had a great time 🤘

    This is a cracking video. I totally recognise the nervousness you mentioned. This vid is so informative and really helps.

    Good information video and entertaining too.
    Fatigue I thought surprised me the most, I didn't realise that going down hill could be so tiring, it was like over doing it at the gym.
    My arms and legs were screaming, especially on Terry's Belly. Maybe I shouldn't have done that one first and taken a break half way down...
    Great place though.
    Well done. 👍

    Nice to see a video of someone on a hard tail for a change, thinking of going this year or next but was always a little worried about riding it without a full suss! Might think about it this year for my 50th! 🤪

    • @LittleTipple
      @LittleTipple  Рік тому +1

      Do it! I also reckon you go faster on a hard tail - and you seem to get a lot of respect from the full sus riders!

      Really enjoyed this. I went earlier this year on a hardtail (a Whyte 909) and did all the blues in a day with no uplift pass. It was excellent! I did, finally, understand why people ride full sus bikes by the end of the day, but i had a great time. @mike Glorfindel. I was 55 then, so go for it!

    Good to see an honest review of BPW. Hoping to go this year but not a fan of trail centres in general because they're usually full of heroes who talk a good ride. Hope we don't get any big noisy groups if we go. Trails look good though. Thanks.

    Enjoyed that. Very useful, as I've my first trip shortly. You fitted in a lot of runs. Loved the quote: "the biggest thing that i'm noticing is how not flat this place is"🤣

      Glad you enjoyed it! We were, ironically, hoping to do more, but I think we hit our limit, hence my little lie down in the bushes... The gopro effect is real though, it's amazing how flat it always looks in videos!

    Interesting video. Visiting BPW for the 1st time next week, noted about opening times. Must admit it I had it in my mind it opened at 10am. Cheers.

    • @LittleTipple
      @LittleTipple  2 роки тому +3

      So, after some research, it seems it’s more complex than that - the park is open from 9 til sundown essentially, but the uplift is open from 10am - so what we’ll do next time is arrive for 9ish and get ourselves ready to be on the lift for 10…

    Subbed for your huel vids. Also a mountain biker. Mainly do Surrey hills but have moved to wilts now and want to go to BPW. Will have to do so. Live right near wind hill but think that's definitely out of my skill range.

      BPW was absolutely awesome - would recommend it highly, for any level at all. Haven't done Wind Hill, but did Rogate a month or two ago, their other park - need to investigate the difference between them, but Rogate was not as intimidating as it looked...

      @@LittleTipple I'm 90nmins from BPW. Will definitely go.
      I have a feeling Wind Hill is a bit "bigger" than rogate.

      @@LittleTipple Windhill reds do have some slightly bigger features but they're all rollable

    • @oldgit4285
      @oldgit4285 2 роки тому +2

      If you can do BKB, El Capitan etc at Surrey then you can do Windhill blue and reds, it's only £10 and just start slow and easy to check out the features, most jumps have takeoff options e.g.kicky on left, more rounded and rollable/squashable on right

    brilliant thanks,I rode there last month on a hardtail not because I'm hardcore,because that's the bike I have,I rode all the blues and loved them,I'm going again on the 3rd September and would like to try some reds,what would you recommend that are similar to the blues

    • @LittleTipple
      @LittleTipple  Рік тому +1

      to be honest, you're hardcore because you have a hardtail! we don't have full sus either - it was good fun though! We did vicious valley and surfing bird, off the top of my head, both of which were completely doable with a hardtail - we wanted to do more, but didn't count on our energy being quite so gone by the end of the day! let me know how you get on!

    Great video, I am new to the MTB world and have bought a Trek Hardtail. I am planning on doing Kermit and a few blues when I visit. I am fortunate to live only 20 minutes away from BPW.
    What bikes were you guys on? What would you suggest for a beginner like myself on a hardtail?
    Cheers 👍🏻

    • @LittleTipple
      @LittleTipple  2 роки тому +1

      We were both on hard tails too - mine is a Bird Zero Tr, and Tom’s is an Orbea something or other - For a beginner, Kermit will be great - you’ll have an amazing time - terrys belly is great, just take it easy - I’d say you’d be able to do all the blues, just go at your own pace! If you’re only 20 mins away, means you can go when it’s quieter, so you don’t need to worry about holding anyone up! (No one would really worry about that anyway - they’re all very supportive).
