My juvenile Electric blue german rams eats and spits...So im not sure if they r really eating or not. They r active and healthy.I wonder if they feed after lights out...
Try to feed them with New Life Spectrum Hexshield. When you first get them, try to clean them out. Metronidazole infused food will help clean them out right away.👍
Thanks to videos this Steve I have learned more about fish keeping in the last five years than I did in the first 25 years I kept fish. I have soft water as a result I can’t keep live bearers because they require harder water. I gave up on discus and rams and I’m now keeping fish that I know thrive in my water. Glad your back!!
@@THolzAquariums man that sucks! Those people who say that we need to be doing that large of a water change are nuts. We still need bb, too much takes out too much that supports the bio filter system. Again, I feel terrible
Either move your tanks first or last. Empty as much of your tank as you can, bucket the fish, try not to lower the water below the substrate to keep your bb there. Buy enough 5g buckets, run water, declorinate, refill, get your filters back up and running and add them back. I didn't lose one fish during my move this way bro
Absolutely perfect! Just keep it clean! In acidic water, ammonia is ammonium. Less toxic to wild discus and rams and hybrids that came from them. They don't like ammonia because they didn't evolve with it. Even if you have a great bio filter, ammonia does not instantly convert. So I always encourage keeping clean water and they will thrive!👍 they can adapt to a range of higher pH's I've even heard of them in a pH of 8.5. People do this but it's not advised. They just do better and you'll have less problems if you add things like driftwood and peat moss.
Hard water is in the high 7's into the 8's. Just to clarify 👍
Great job
I found a local guy that breeds them in regular tap water with prime...they have been lasting along time
Tap water can be soft.
Scuba Steve at it again!

@@ScubaSteve4444 thanks..steve for yur suggestion
I love that intro bro bad$aa
True no one tells you this, so now how do I keep my water soft?
I'd use an RO unit and cut it with your tap water. Try to find a mix that gets you to 6.8 or under and that will work.
Is there a way to use a water softener?

What happened with your rams and discus!
Scuba Steve I listen to so called experts that tell people to change 90% of the water daily. I think I changed the water too much.

Scuba Steve Thanks. Plus it destabilizes the ph to I think.
Can almond leaves control water hardness?
They do add acid to the water.👍I have Mopani wood in with my wild Rams and Discus
steve I have a question I am moving to an apartment down the street owner is selling the house what is the best way to move tank and fishes

Would 200 ppm GH be to hard? And would 7.4 pH be fine?

Look for African cichlids. There are even dwarf African cichlids and Kribensis that are colorful and thrive in the hardest waters naturally
I've never kept Africans at all. I much prefer discus! 🐠👍👍
I don't see you raising any rams ? Ph does play a big role in keeping your rams alive but nonetheless you still need a bit more to your equation.
I'm always open to being educated. I've got 4 tanks, I'll do one on my rams soon!💯
What are your preferred TDs and GH parameters for GBRs?
Stay tuned my friend! Got this info coming in a future vid!
@@ScubaSteve4444 Wanted to know this myself.
I keep my tds 100ppm and under.👍 The GH will fluctuate with water changes. They breed much easier on low tds water 💯
I run my tanks at about 6.8
