    Touch freight ESPECIALLY in the food industry is rather rewarding. Tough on the body but good on the pockets. Last year was my first full year and I made $113,000

      @swarupsimon touch freight means you are physically handling the product in your trailer, whether it's unloading or loading by the pallet or case.

    I was an owner/operator for 17 years. Averaged about $150k per year gross. Had to pay all the truck expenses out of that, including fuel.
    I'm now a car-hauler making the same $150k, with zero expenses. Plus a pension and tons of time off(that's paid).

    5 axle tanker driver on the dalton highway up to prudhoe bay make 1800 a run which takes two days. You can knock out 10 to 12 a month depending on the weather. Its a brutal job but if you want big bucks thats a great option if you have the experience and you are willing to move and grind

      ​@@yo9758 Alaska West Express was the main one that hauled fuel up there when i was there. I think Big Dream did some but dont quote me on that. Alaska west had owner ops as well but I would definitely stay company because those trucks take a beating.

    I switched from LTL to owner operator. I got on with a pretty nice gig hauling furniture to delivery points. Home daily and off weekends.

      Probably true but especially with large livestock can be very hazardous. Need to be aware that trained on how to load and unload animals that can weigh up to 2500 lbs and can kick very fast.
      Never fun having to lock yourself in the dog house and hoping the aluminum gate can keep you safe from a very
      angry and large member of the bovine species

      You won't make that much to start because you won't be efficient enough until you get more experienced. A lot of those routes are also done by seniority too which means you won't get them for awhile and you'll get stuck with the hardest least efficient routes.

    About 2 months ago I started doing concert driving. It’s not for everyone but I absolutely love it and the pay is good. It’s a nice change from seeing how many miles I can get every single day.

      I’ve heard it is the best. Only problem is your class A will be useless after 3 years unless that company can put you in one every once in a while. No insurance company will allow another trucking company to hire you without recent class A experience. I know it sounds stupid but it’s true

      @@CForged I think I understand what you are saying but I’m not sure. We drive all of the time. When tour season slows down in the fall we just go back to driving our normal Monday-Friday job whatever that may be. I hav my fingers crossed that I’ll be able to stay on tour all winter but if I go back to my old gig for the winter it’s no big deal.

    In Chicago there are beer delivery drivers making 150 a yr and Sysco foods & US Foods drivers are making 150k a year. So the food industry is the highest paying job for the hardest working truck drivers that don’t sit much and go home everyday. UPS is also at bringing in at least 150k a year for a guys working 60 hours a week

      @@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News one thing I forgot to mention is the foods jobs are usually forced to max hours at 14 or close continue everyday. A lot of injuries are happening due to little rest for the body

      @@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News it’s unionized by the teamsters, you either start as a feeder driver or day cab, getting paid $28/hr plus Overtime, free benefits or you start as sleeper team at 90 cents a mile as the top pay! home every weekend! after 20 years they can pension you too

      A lot of it is just poor management on the part of the companies. Many companies are still very much active so don't let it dissuade you from joining if this is what you're passionate about

    As a driver only best I ever made was $550 a day 10-hour shift and I'm talking that's wages I drove someone else's truck

      These aren't company specific, it's niches within the trucking industry itself. As long as you're in one of the aforementioned fields, you should expect to be making that amount regardless of which company you are working for

      Well in Chicago they work 14 hours a day at about $23hr avg for every hours. $1610 a week 83k a year and that is 70 hours a week. It’s a horrible way to make money in trucking. The DOT will love to pick on you too

      Please spend the money and get your CDL through a school and then try to apply to company. Don’t go the way most people do and join a big mega company and work for them for 1-2 years for a “free” cdl. Also get into a good division that can lead into high paying jobs that can be done locally or regionally like tanker, flatbed and hopper bottom. Don’t be like moronic masses that get into trucking and just pull dry van or reefer trailers

    You’re way off for TDG tanker. You’re estimate is low by over $100k. I work in this field. I was offered a job running heavy oversize loads for $250k. As an owner operator in tanking you can gross 700 - 1 mil for a single unit.
    Think your numbers might be off elsewhere too. Just fyi. Where did your numbers come from, glass doors?

Also comparing company drivers with GROSS owner operator instead of net is another nifty way of making it look like the owner operator is making a killing, when in reality majority of owner operators make less money than company drivers.

Get a sign on bonus if anything lol anyway its two completely different things.
