This game actually turned me onto the TV series and movies and made a ghost in the shell junkie out of me. I just wish I could find an english version of the uncensored manga lol.
I use to have the first Ghost in the Shell game for PS1. It was one of my favourites, and the replay value was high. I really liked the movement, and I'm trying to find other games that combine combat with wall/roof climbing. Anyone know of anything like that?
holy shit thanks to this video I just remembered I actually had this game for PS2, then let a friend borrow it and never saw it again, worst of all I had completely forgotten that I actually owned this game dammit. I can't believe I completely forgot I had this
wa?when?and it's good?? i loves my ghost especially when beshelled! japan only release?masamune shirow is begging for a deep game based on this or appleseed..i haven't got enough time to get into big rpgs so if someone did give it a whirl i'd prob miss out anyway..a gta/g police/driver type o thing in this sort of universe or bladerunner or something in 1040p beauty is long overdue though..imagine twoking a tachicoma or hover car then neutralizing some body snatching borgs.get hideo on the wire!
You could just learn Japanese, then you can play every Japanese game. The verbal language is pie, but the writing is another story. Four alphabets to remember; characters in order; 70+ (Romaji), 70+ (Hiragana), 130+ (Katakana), 1,000+ (Kanji). 1,247 more characters than the English alphabet.
You didn't mention the excellent music by Nobuyoshi Sano! I actually didn't play the game, I literally just got my hands on the soundtrack when I knew it was his work. ^^
Awesome Series Anime Based On Video Game later Episodes Of Adult Swim 2002 Anime Series All I Know I Love The Game Full Version And Official U.S PlayStation Magazine issue 86 November 2004 That Game Released Later 2004 To 2005 PlayStation 2 Exclusive Same Maker's Of Kill.switch Game And Breakdown Og Xbox game voice Actors was in There
I never realized how tanked I could become playing a drinking game and taking a swig for each time someone says (of all things) "Ghost in the Shell" in a 5 minute clip. Yoush be ahmayshed.
Makes me wish oh so badly for a new one, on PC. But there's probably not enough interest overall that would justify the expenses required to make it really, really good and faithful to the series sadly. Voice acting with the original cast alone would probably cost a ton of money. Though I can still dream of a Stand Alone Complex 3rd Gig in the form of a videogame...
With Arise just finishing in Japan and the 25th anniversary coming up, another game isn't completely out of the question. If ever there were a time to make another game, it'd be now.
Just bought a Japanese PS2 i plan to softmod and figured i'd come back to the channel that got me watching UA-cam to look for games i didn't have as a kid. Thanks for the years upon years of videos :)
What a throw back; I loved GITS:SAC back in the day, especially when playing it back to back with MGS3:SE on the PS2. Ahh... life was good then. Hacking in this made for a great mini game and the large areas were amusing, especially when they went really high. On a side note; I did play and love ONI way back in the day, but after that, I was left jonesing for more :( I strongly suggest to play ONI on the PC!
I don't think people from GITS can take "a ton of damage" as you say is "relatively consistent with the show". As far as I can tell that yes they are armored but bullets will always be adaptive to penetrate their armored skin. I don't know any character that sat there and took a bullet to the flesh or clothes without taking damage and the ones with armored bodies that took a hit were devastating just like it would be to a person. And I thought the relationship with Batou and Kusanagi weren't sexual. I thought Batou tried really hard to not see her like that. He had even suggested to her that she gets a male chassis body to have more strength because a male body has more size and when she stripped in front of him after she swam in the ocean he looked away. I think Batou sees the two of them as more siblings than flirty but I could be wrong.
And yeah, also in the manga, Kusanagi enjoyed a virtual-reality threesome with two lady-friends in chapter 2, but later in chapter 5 is seen dating a male officer. So she is a still a sexual person, just not with her team-mates
Theres the scene from the movie where batou visits the yakuza and they throw 2 grenades down the stairs and batou throws togusa behind him and shoots the 2 grenades a few feet from his face and is unscratched (even his clothes weirdly)
I FUCKIN' LOVE THIS GAME! This is one of the few games that I played over many times. You see I don't do this very often with newer games. I just love it!
You could use Gamestop's search bar to see if any of their shops within 100 miles has one. I just checked myself and there are 3 within 15 miles of my house that have one. If that doesn't work for you, then yeah, I got nothing else.
Or he never showed any romantic attachment and you are so used to seeing boy meets girl that you can't understand any other kind of relationship. He acts alot more like an older brother or a police partner. The original writer made her promiscuous but for the series they toned it down only hinting at her sexuality. They never confirm anything other than she is head over heels for the guy from 2nd Gig. Now she may have had a relationship with Paz and or a woman who appears in about two episodes.
My biggest gripe with this game was with the controls - specifically, the jumping. The characters both have large, floaty jumps, and the jumps themselves aren't tied to the duration of the button being pressed. That is to say, if all you need to do is a tiny jump to get over a small barrier, it won't matter, because you will always do a huge, floaty jump. It might not seem like a big deal, but when you don't want to be a large, floaty target in mid-air, it's a pretty big deal.
Please don't waste your time on this game. You deserve better, honestly. Sometimes just because a game is $2 and has one of your favorite shows on it's cover doesn't mean you should play it. I did, and I'll never have that hour and a half of my life back. This reviewer just panders to game companies that crap out games to squeeze a few more cents out of a popular franchise. Go play Oni or MGS4, they capture the essence of the Ghost in the Shell universe better than this game does.
Out of the three GitS games I have (GitS on PlayStation, GitS SAC on PS2 and GitS SAC on PSP) this is my least favorite. I have yet to get past the first level due to the terrible controls. It's not that I hate the game, it's just not as good as it looks. The PSP game, even though it's excellent and I have nothing bad to say about it, is my second favorite only because of how superb the old PlayStation game is. Fuchikomas > Tachikomas
@SirValor1177 The first movie is a great starting point. It's brilliant and stands on its own. But you kinda have to ignore the movie to understand the TV show because they're different universes. Kinda like the alternate universe for spider man where Peter Parker gets killed and the latino kid becomes the new spidey (I apologize for not knowing his name.) The ps2 game reviewed here is every bit as good as Mark says. The multiplayer is a ton of fun. 3 armed suits versus 1 tachikoma is a blast.
@ArmoredCoreRaven Also, on the easiest setting in this game you still can't take a lot of damage and ammo is always running low, forcing you to use the extremely awkward.fight controls to take out enemies... which is impossible to do if they're on a ledge somewhere sniping you. I feel this review tells a story opposite to what one actually experiences in this game...
@TheAstralSerpent Stupid comments about English dubs hurt my eyes. If you aren't intelligent enough to find the audio button on a DVD player then you don't deserve to live in the first place. I'd imagine most import games have a dual audio feature too.
The PSP version of this was a disappointment, but this PS2 version was a fun game. Looking for those Japanese red dot flag paper fans was a challenge. Not a precision shooter, unless you use a sniper rifle or gigantic missile launcher, and not much stealth, even though you can briefly use invisibility screens (therm-optic camouflage), but this game delivers thrills and fun, especially for those GitS fans. Hope this gets ported to the PS Vita.
had this game but sold it,good game but it has its flaws,i am a fan of g.i.t.s. but dont like the game that much to play it over n over again because there aint that much to it...short game, good graphics for its time, cheesy controls or character movement and repetitive gameplay with a weak story...its like watching one or two episodes of ghost in the shell instead of the whole season... Overall 6/10.
Yes, I have it. It's ok for it's time - however it may not be what you're expecting, as you simply drive a Fuchikoma around and shoot people through the game, you never really control any other characters.
Wish we could get a ghost in the shell fps like syndicate. The psp one wasn't very good though I liked it just for being a ghost in the shell game. The first game for the ps1 is still probably the best gits game imo.
I remember this game, didn't play it though. Soundtrack is pretty good, and Major Kusanagi is hooooot. I wonder if they have this on PSN....I don't want to buy it for PS2, even though I still have it hooked up and everything.
@pyp3x6000 Really! It's That bad?!? Notice that I have no Idea what the other guy wrote! I am just curious about the "ASS EFFECT 3" quote! Because I loved the previous game! So.......EXPLAIN YOURSELF!!!
my girlfriend bought me this for valentines day.............................i cant put this game down and i will NEVER get tired of the amazing intro screen which makes me gasm all day
why because she is naked throughout the whole thing? no jk, the GITS movie is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I have never seen the rest of the series
This is a great game. I bought the PSP game because I liked this game so much... and I got burned. This game is great, but the PSP game isn't quite as good.
I beat this game about three days ago, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
@WelcomeGhostsIV you mean Mass Fail 3...
Rather than that, wouldn't it be better for Deunan Knute from Appleseed to be in this game? They're from the same creator, after all.
Being scored doesn't quite match my definition of replay value...
This game actually turned me onto the TV series and movies and made a ghost in the shell junkie out of me. I just wish I could find an english version of the uncensored manga lol.

Loved this game, probably on of the better ones in the ps2 library. Graphics were gorgeous for the time.
Hm. This game reminds me of Oni for PS2
Well, Oni was heavily inspired by the 1995 GitS movie itself.
It can be bought used off Amazon for pretty cheap as of this moment.
i liked it a lot but it allways looked to me like a totally rip-off of oni
on gameplay of course i know the series/movies are much older
Got this one, as well as the PSP sequel.
"buh-toe"
Any one else feel like watching a marathon of ghost in the shell movies and shows on netflix? Me too. TOTHEIPAD!
holy shit thanks to this video I just remembered I actually had this game for PS2, then let a friend borrow it and never saw it again, worst of all I had completely forgotten that I actually owned this game dammit.

Great review! I loved this game and will definitely buy it on ebay or game stop to replay it!

Ghost in the Shell is in my top three Animes. I might have to pick this up. I've heard of the PS1 game but never knew they made one for PS2.

what is ghost in the shell even about
Makes me wish oh so badly for a new one, on PC. But there's probably not enough interest overall that would justify the expenses required to make it really, really good and faithful to the series sadly.

Assassins cred movies being made so why not GITS video game
First Assault is half of what you asked for
First Assault is a pvp-only game of a very plot-heavy series. The aesthetics are fine, but I wish it had a story campaign instead.
@@redfoxbennaton yup. First assault as mentioned above. Unfortunately it couldn't make a profit and was shut down.
Just bought a Japanese PS2 i plan to softmod and figured i'd come back to the channel that got me watching UA-cam to look for games i didn't have as a kid. Thanks for the years upon years of videos :)
Damn I saw this at a gamestop and skipped out on it, assuming it was bad.
Now I see its a great game
Well, I'm convinced. To ebay!
One story---they split stages. Some are for the major, some are for Batou
Here's a bit of trivia. if you watch the anime and listen to, the sound Motoko makes when she lands from a high jump its the same in the game.
What a throw back; I loved GITS:SAC back in the day, especially when playing it back to back with MGS3:SE on the PS2. Ahh... life was good then. Hacking in this made for a great mini game and the large areas were amusing, especially when they went really high.

By the way, Mr. Mark, I wish you could make a review for Spartan: Total Warrior.
I want to buy a PS2 just to play this.
Wish it'd get a HD remake, but seems unlikely.
Just copped a ps2 today and im on my way to buy this game :,)
I also tried that last stunt a few times ^^ What an annoying part of that level >_

Pablo Escobar I'm not clicking on those links but I LMAO
In the manga he flirted with her a bit, but he pretty much knew it would never be reciprocated
And yeah, also in the manga, Kusanagi enjoyed a virtual-reality threesome with two lady-friends in chapter 2, but later in chapter 5 is seen dating a male officer. So she is a still a sexual person, just not with her team-mates

Possible my favourite anime series of all time
I FUCKIN' LOVE THIS GAME! This is one of the few games that I played over many times. You see I don't do this very often with newer games. I just love it!
This game was extremely fun on the ps2
Cool, I was also a Ghost in the Shell fan and I also find this game descent. I've played the one on Playstation and it was good.
Reminds me of Oni on PC/Ps2...good ol day :)
so do both of the characters have different campaigns or are they both the same?
this game reminds me of Oni
hope they make a game for Arise
i love my ps2 it maek me happy alltime
the first ghost in the shell for the ps1 is so good 8D
i wa expecting this review mark, because this is one of my favorites game ever, I wonder if they have or will be this on PSVITA
1 i definatly need to remember !!
You could use Gamestop's search bar to see if any of their shops within 100 miles has one. I just checked myself and there are 3 within 15 miles of my house that have one. If that doesn't work for you, then yeah, I got nothing else.
5:41 LOL Suicidal jump
I love Ghost in the shell but i never got to play this one.
Capcom or Namco should make a new one for the Xbox 360, that would be awesome.
Reminds me of Oni
I really hoped you'd review this one. While indeed far from perfect, it's still a really enjoyable game.
I absolutely love this series, I gotta find this game...
My first shooter on the PS2. My favorite until now. As you said a must-have for GITS fans
@Jas0nM5 ok, 10th :D
Or he never showed any romantic attachment and you are so used to seeing boy meets girl that you can't understand any other kind of relationship. beautiful for ps 2

I never got the vibe of him wanting anything like that from her either. A few times she starts getting mushy around him he begins to dry reach.
Managed to find this for $7 at Gamestop the other day, case and manual included. Glad I saw this review first, or I might not have bothered.
Incredible... the hacking ability in the new Syndicate game was presented as the discovery of alien life, and this game had it since 2004
id get it if they re-release it on the newer consoles wit an autosave feature. better graphics n online play would be a definite plus
@P45KAL that was actually highly influenced by the ghost in the shell series, the main characters are practically identical...
Oni anyone? It's an old PS2 game that Rockstar and Bungie made way back when. That game was awesome. They should make a sequel!!
@MegaRekyyli It'll just upscale the textures, Upscaling = True HD textures now? By all Rights then my Super Mario World is in HD.
Already have it. Bought it on day of release yeeeeears ago. Love it ^_^ But then I am biased as I'm a huge GITS fan.
she is naked less than 20% of the movie. you should check out the 2nd movie and the tv show. the production quality is awesome.
batoo or plato looks like geralt
I would love to get into the Ghost in the Shell series. But my only problem is that I have no idea where to start.
So, Mark, How do you feel now that Studio I.G. will make a new GiTS series called Ghost in the Shell: Arise?
@AfroSnackey of course, but the games are really not as good as the tv show, manga and movies (in that order).
@2VisionsPhotography How the heck do you get profits from advertising an old PS2 game made in the mid 2000s?
Major always look different. Take any incarnation - she is always different. I loved the original GiTS movie look.
... I still like the movies more. But I wouldn't mind trying this...
Yes. it is fun as shit. But the missions are kinda short and not too challenging. Cutscenes are badass.
who thinks that they should make all the old ps2 and psp ghost in the shell games in a HD collection
Why do the melee attacks never actually connect? They die and fall over before she touches them XD
4th
at lest in this one u can play Major Kusanagi not some faceless guy in a tank which I hated
i would love some more GiTS games on PS3 or PC. at least a download for the PS1 game on the PSN.
@WelcomeGhostsIV everything beats mass effect 3's running animation. except for tes4 oblivion of course
13th
I wish they'd make another GITS SAC game, just for an HD release, a new story, a new fun game
@Croxyndul maybe 'cause you're watching just a UA-cam video and not the actual game. meh..
@dannyofthededd Err, I meant I didn't understand a single thing you said... X_X.
Looks more fun than the new Syndicate.
Must...have....Tachikoma! >x3 Too cute.
and they said mindjack was the first to us the hack "enemy AI" feature, FIRST my ass.
