Been using the A7RV for a couple days now and I am blown away. The IBIS, the articulated screen, 9M dot EVF, and the AI autofocus are AMAZING. Great video as always.
Is the A7RV now the best video camera from Sony now, do you think? I think it must be with the sick AF and the IBIS. Too bad that it only works at 8 stops with a few lenses.
@@34589k Definitely not the best video camera from Sony. There are a lot of limitations when it comes to resolutions and frame rate and cropped modes as well as some pretty bad rolling shutter. It's still a beast though! Probably the best hybrid after the a1 though.
I can't believe I just bought the A7IV and am carrying around a massive and arm killing gimbal just before this comes out. But I am super happy to see this improvement which may mean I can leave my gimbal at home.

What about using only the IBIS for handheld photo shoot with manual lenses? My main problem it's that with longer focal lenses I need a tripod for manual focus, but good IBIS could solve this
I don't shoot professionally anymore but if I was I feel this A7RV is actually a bargain for what it does. I used to shoot with the D810 which is a blob of a camera 😭How can they pack all this tech in such a small body? Crazy!
Having had the ZVE1 for some months now, the active dynamic is amazing for walking straight forward, very slow pans or parallel following shots. However, when you start panning about active stabilisation is better than dynamic active, as dynamic active jumps about on fast pans.
I have a strong suggestion from India can you make a video in the Cheapest country to buy Cameras and lenses, cause in India Cameras are almost 1.4 times more expenses, not even camera but iphones are also expensive in India Iphone 14 pro cost 130000 INR which is grossly 1600 US Dollars
I’m struggling between upgrading from my A7iii to the A7RV or the A7SIV. I shoot mostly street/portrait. Not a lot of video. I like the high sensitivity for low light conditions. What’s should I be considering g?
Jason, love your work! I recently bought the A7rv with a new grip and found that the grip did not fit and later found out that that is an issue with the current grip sold and said to fit as per the Sony Corporate, but I can tell you that after taking it back to Precision Camera in Austin Texas I was told that I was among numerous a7rv owners advising that the battery grip fitment was off. I had a gap that I was able to see through. Was wondering if you had the same issue if and when you tried a battery grip with your camera. There is a big thread on DP Review regarding this issue. Hope it gets fixed soon and maybe you could contact some of your Sony rep's and see what's up with this issue. Keep up the good work. Thank You
I just bought this camera, but the RAW files aren’t yet supported in photoshop or Lightroom. Does anyone have an idea of when the RAW files will be supported?
Hi Sir.... does sony make inbuilt hdr monitor modes like pq rec709 all those stuff instant lookup like what they have it in ninja v ... if not the atomos should bring a battery very flat sort of thing when its on gimbal you dont find the weight .... fx3 version 2 will they bring such things - some of the basic why sony ignores while making & thanks
And this only works in super35 mode right? I was most hoping to use it for handheld self walking and talking video, but I worry the crop would be too tight.... (making me think I'm better off continuing with catlyst browse from my a7c until I can get an a7c2, though I still intend to get an a7rv for photography)
I’m curious if the noise performance increases if you lower the resolution in the camera. I know it does a great job, but if I were at a dark wedding reception and didn’t want too much noise would it do a better job at 26mp vs the default. Any chance you could do a test? I’m debating about trading in my A7iii’s for the A7RV.
The size of the pixel does not change . So even at 26mpx the noise ratio will still be the same in theory. It does not increase the surface receiving the light.

I am a Sony user, Sony body stabilization is behind competition. My old Gh5 is still better with any lens than any Sony camera with both active and lens stabilization.

I think these shots can only be trusted if you had both cameras mounted together. Otherwise, for the sake of the video. You can influence your argument in this case.
But then I wouldn’t have the same grip and the same amount stability as using just one camera. The purpose was to test how much you can get away handholding and moving with one camera.
Stability depends on the size of the sensor. Of course on iPhone or micro four third , the system could theoretically absorb more movement, combined with gyro data in real time and a powerful processor, the stability can be better. On full frame they will do it with improvement of processing power and real time gyro and processing AI of the blur effect. .
@@CC-gt3ro sorry i meant S series panasonic which is Full frame ;) .... use any lumix full frame camera and you will dump your gimbal .... panasonic saved so much space in my camera bag...lets hope others copy their technology too

Yep! I did say the walking footage aren't usable. It's meant to show the extreme and how much of the shake is controlled - which is amazing imo. I followed up by saying that means it will be a lot more forgiving when we do static handheld shots with telephoto lenses and doing minor cinematic motions like fake sliders or minor orbital shots with tele lenses. Hope that clarifies things!
@@JasonVong I've mentioned it, because I can easily see some software tweaks to smooth out shakes, so they will be more noticeable, but less artificial. You can not "revive" shaky cam from previous gimbal, but this one - You definitely can.
@@JasonVong, just a correction here, IBIS is hardware stabilization and can’t be turned off. It’s the sensor shifting to counter shakes. OIS is optical lens stabilizing. And EIS or Sony calls active stabilization is the digital stabilizing through software. Both OIS and EIS can be turned off.
The A7SIII video can't be true.. my Nikon D7200 without IBIS shakes less at 300mm (450equiv) with a Tamron 70-300 than the A7SIII at 70mm ?? impossible
Holy Epic rolling shutter from the RV. Would you rather have major jelly rolling shutter (video mode) vs an SIII with zero rolling shutter? I feel like there’s no contest here. The SIII still reigns king in the video department.
Sony has done a great job but honestly I'm disappointed to see it was not implemented in FX30 which could make it a best seller ever camera! And when I see the great Sony 70-350 G has been kept out of the firmware update list gives me another disappointment. Sony I'm dead serious, if you keep crippling the apsc line I will switch instead of buying a 4k$ plus camera! And I have almost 10 Sony lenses so that would be painful, but I'm ready to pay the pain for it!
It is better to stabilize the footage and then in post production you can select across a bank of shake movement for different situations (like in movies special effect) with action VFX.
Do you test at 200mm and walking…? If it was true why i see people with Gh6 and gimbals? If it is capable to absorb any movement when running jumping and walking at 200mm why people with gh5 and gh6 have gimbals? ……….
I always hear videographers say... i wish i could shoot handheld at 200mm.... If only sony had decent colors i'd love them... but until then they're high-tech toys
I agree that Sony’s colors aren’t the best. But it really depends on what you’re filming or taking pictures of. For docs and short/feature films sure you may want a different system. But most client work isn’t going to demand perfect color. That is something only creators will over obsess on. Things like stable footage and maintaining focus are much more important and all technology is secondary to the content itself and story telling.

Hope this comes to the a7C II when that is updated, as well as touch menus, more MP (32), and newer flip up/out screen.
I just wish Sony was putting OIS in more lenses. They've actually been taking it out of lenses that use to have it.

This has been INSANE for my bird photography. i can take shots at 600mm at as low as 1/40 shutter speed if the bird is perched, HANDHELD.
Really Tempted to finally upgrade my 7yr old A7R2 to R5 cos of the latest IBIS... Mainly Using the 24-105 lenses during travels

I've been using my Sony A7R3 for a little over 2 years with 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8; I'm wondering if I should upgrade to the A7RV

A7S3 footage may look shaky (too shaky to be honest, wonder why) but it’s far more natural

I think the jittery stabilisation looks bad, the shake of the A7siii shows the camera is zoomed its natural shake
this new ibis looks like a big improvement, maybe it will get better with a9iii & a7S4

The 8 stop on the Sony works with all lenses. It’s just these 4 currently work even better. But yes the IBIS on Panasonic is legendary!

if you want reliable and usable IBIS, choose Lumix. Period.

not a fair comparison. the Oly have a tiny sensor. the sensor a lot of space to move around.

Why my A7RV and 70-200 GM II IBIS menu was disabled when I switched IBIS on the Lens?
Try tinkering different modes. You might have something activated that might’ve turned off the IBIS

Micro four turds is a tiny sensor. Lots of space in the camera body to be able to stabilise the sensor. FF cameras have less space.

I also know plenty of sports videographers who shoot handheld at 200mm. Myself included. And many of us are Sony shooters.
