Fantastic video guys. I would agree with what the lads point on some people considering going back to maybe doing their own silage with these sort of outfits. Some parts of the country some lads have got out of the contracting game this year which means some outfits are covering large areas now and not getting to farmers when they want their silage done. Interesting times ahead.
We are happy to talk about our costs. But we feel when we are with other people that its personal to them. If they choose to talk about costs thats on them but we tend not to ask as unless they volunteer.
@@Grassmen I understand that and I understand that the price of machinery can be very dependent on who’s buying and when but there seems to be a vail of secrecy industry wide when it comes to what companies are charging farmers. As an example; I was curious what one of those new Pottinger Wagons retail at and I can’t find a price anywhere even to ballpark it. Seems like no one wants to publish the cost of machinery that’s current and I don’t think that’s really the case in any other industry.
Great video .... I personally don't make pit silage but love seeing these tractors and choppers at work.... wish you guys could come too my girlfriends at silage time... her father buckrakes with a 390 with a removable cab... my girlfriend leads trailers with a 4000 series massey ferguson... and possibly the most amazing thing is my girlfriends mother drives a ford 7740... pulling a claas 51 forager and she is around 75 yrs old!!!...plus 2 single axle 6 ton marshall silage trailers ...the definition of old school...👍
A totally awesome line up & vid, lovely sounds. Really wish l was back in the cab from early morning to whatever. Just one wish please please clean up the FENDT, a really super tractor drove 1 for years. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😜
You can get lower hour old machines and put em in the field and just go. The new ones require service technicians with computers to get back going so you'll still go down it just comes down to how much you want to spend. We are running around 2k acres hay and silage bales both our own and custom. We are running new implements but our newest tractor is a 2012 and the oldest is 09 and we really like be right in there where you are new enough for easy part sourcing but old enough that you don't have to many sensors to deal with. Great video
excellent footage , for me the best tractor in that line up is without a doubt the Genesis , stance , sound everything an absolute tool . really pleased you didnt slate the Crystal too much theres one thing i like about your reviews , straight to the point , thanks for the honesty Gary . a truth review , for some reason im so pleased you liked it and thought it was a good simple tractor and comfortable as well , id like to see it put through a bit more hard work just to see how it comes out .Do you not think the days of a man finishing a days graft and actually being able/bothered to do little bits and pieces to an older outfit i think those kind of men are getting few and far between , which is a crying shame it really is .
Thanks for your comment Micheal, we appreciate the feed back ! The Genesis is just a legend of a tractor 👍. We are pleasantly surprised by the Zetor as a machine and we will hopefully get her onto the Mex 6 and double mowers now as well as the 2500 gallon tanker 👍
We use old kit, it’s cheap and rusty but it works! I think the mengele got picked up for a few hundred quid. Just wish I had more ponies under the bonnet.
But answer this, would ye agree that you'd have better quality silage in the winter? You can set your chop length as you like, more flexibility in the day you cut, more time to look after the pit as it goes in and make sure its rolled and clamped properly. A cooperative between a few neighbours with regard to purchasing equipment and id say youd definitely end up with better quality cow fuel as Gary called it
Is it possible for you to go through the process of getting your grass ready to cut, ground prep weed reduction, seeding I would like to see a show almost like a class getting grass to this quality
Hi guys. These days farmers and contractors should really check there expenditure. Those old tractors and tech are awesome. Really enjoyed your video. Can you guys maybe get a Deutz Fahr tractor to demo. ? How is the Zetor fuel consumption?
I’m a fan of the blues and especially the TM but you’re dead right in saying all the tractors of that era were great machines with just enough tech to be comfortable to work all day but none of the adblue/dpf nonsense or gps/computer screens to go wrong and add to the cost 🚜🛠👍🏼
I agree with Gareth there is a place for diy silage especially for the smaller family units that tend to be pushed down by big contractors who favour big customers we make haylage to sell and do everything ourselves so we cut when the crops are ready not when someone else says they maybe able to fit us in
A few might go back to chopping their own but I think the wagon will be the option for a lot. Reduced labour and with the chop length of the new one's it's no longer comprising
One of those harvesters has a great spout, one seems to be spout challenged. Never good to be short of the spout 😁😁 Serious entertainment watching that older fleet flexing in anger, even for the sound. Friend of mine had a tractor that whistled. Modern rallying and F1 has become as boring as watching paint dry compared to watching the older yokes that took skill to keep on the road. Constant rising prices for farm machinery is going to impose a bit of sense on the whole thing, the Exchequer running over the hill with half our diesel money in his pocket and the tree huggers trying to shut us all down as well.
That ole over the seas filling side looks wrong need a extension, Last 6290 was in the owner never changed the filters so she was as dead as a doorknob and a big brutal front linkage, Your guy Sammy that is hired into Lyons supposedly his T7.270 reached over 20k hours that engine is bombproof
With the money and complexity of new machinery right now I think alot of people are going back to the old kit, there is such a huge void in the price its a no brainer, most farms already have tm140 sized tractors so buying a 5k chopper and maby 10k worth of second had trailers is a very cost effective option these days
Always wondered?why It's not a conveyor belt System ?? With Chopping mechanism a the end Chopping down into the trailer...? Now that would be some craic To make .....
Actually have been chatting to a few guys on the shows stands this year are going that way ! It won’t suit everyone but it will be an option guys may be considering !
I think you'll see more happening like this as more farmers and especially larger dairy farmers move towards multi cut silage systems. You cant wait a week for a contractor in multicut. If its wet Monday Tuesday and dry Wednesday Thursday, you can't wait on the list you've got to go. The difference on 100ac of grass cut a week later is going to cost you 1.5-2ltrs a cow eating about 15kgs Dm of grass silage. 1tonDM/ac, so that's 60cows/ac or 90-100ltrs x 40p is £36-40/ac x100 is 3600-4000/cut, 7 cuts in multi cut is £25-28000/year. That's from waiting for 1 week longer on each cut to cut
What a fleet💪😍 it's cool to see 3 trailed harvesters in one field😁👍 you don't need brand new equipment to get the job done, awesome video guys👍👍
Thanks Simon , it took a bit of effort to make it happen but defo worth it ! Yeah well maintained older kit can get it done too !

Loving the old school silage, great to keep these old tractors in everyone's minds,❤ and don't forget the old 3650s
One of my biggest criticisms of Grassmen is the lack of talk about money, costs etc. really glad to hear it on this video.

great video , used to silage with a trailed Class forager and a 1212 David Brown then moved on to a 1594 . yes a long time ago . lol
Keep em coming folks. Cracking job on the vid. Great set up and will look on to see that crystal being tested. Stay safe 🏴
Thank you , we will try our best , stay tuned ! The Crystal is defo creating a lot of interest ! We’ve a few more plans for her 👍
@@Grassmen good to see the zetor brand getting more recognishion
There is always room for old school. It’s the same as the older, wiser workers. You need them.
We use old kit, it’s cheap and rusty but it works! I think the mengele got picked up for a few hundred quid. Just wish I had more ponies under the bonnet.
That 6290 is the best tractor ye have bought 🥵
Agreed
After the crystal obviously
Conor Keogh how could you
Na the fendt and t7 lad
I would love to see you guys do more trailed harvesters maybe something like a lely storm or kemper 2000 or 3000

Love the zetor
The Zetor Crystal looks so damn good though.
When are the 4755 and 7140 going on the choppers?
Fantastic video......the 6155r dwarfs the older gear
Man it does
Lovely fleet
A few might go back to chopping their own but I think the wagon will be the option for a lot. Reduced labour and with the chop length of the new one's it's no longer comprising
If u got two or three local lads together u could do ur own silage with that sort of machinery!
Pilot of the 6290 would have a good time
I'd much prefer to see older kit working and to use older kit than the new stuff
I would love a run on the 6290 and the Herron

Ford 7810 turbo or 8210 turbo or TW15 on a flywheel chopper and couple 7840sle carting on trailers would be mint
Great job fair play, I’d do a MF 698t 699 on a JF 900.
What Tedder did you use or did you not use one??
There was a wee bit tedded. Just a local lad came and did for Farner Gareth.
Old school is the best school
How many acres per day can a JF1260 lift?.

FPT engines are one of the best on the market !
Genisis would look a beast way a front linkage and put a front and back mower on her

Blues for cutting. The rest for drawing in.
Always wondered?why It's not a conveyor belt
System ?? With
Chopping mechanism a the end
Chopping down into the trailer...?
Now that would be some craic
To make .....
Just need a 5100 or mx maxxum now
Get in an older Crystal and the the two of them working side by side
Costs of new machines will drive some back to pull behinds or more to wagons iv crews around me over a mill in 1 field that cant keep going
Actually have been chatting to a few guys on the shows stands this year are going that way ! It won’t suit everyone but it will be an option guys may be considering !

I'd say there will be more go back to the double chop
I think buy well to your farm and maintain and look after your machinery pays everyone.
It’s my birthday today
Happy Birthday to you ! 🤣
Got the proper tractors on the choppers
Haha that’s a matter of opinion, but the blues didn’t let us down !
The 6290 needs 800/65r32 tires on the back 😜
U mad? 😂
@@alanmarshall874 😂
Mmmmm not sure about that now 😬
@@Grassmen agreed😂
now i think about it it would be cool as 65r32 twins😂
55 acres in today one wagon another option
🚜🚜🚜🚜😎😎😎👍
Where is that 3650 gone 😕
Kids
Yep and we love it 🤣
