A good tip about the connecting the app. But one negative that I at least noticed is that PM5 monitor will stay connected to your app long after a work out. I remember a couple of times coming back to my RoweERG like 4 hours later and noticed that the PM5 monitor was still on. I was using ErgData at that time. So now after a work I always remember to into the PM5 monitor and hit the disconnect app option.
Finally- a solution to the quick backlight timeout issue on the PM5! Bravo, thank you for posting this. 👍😀👏 Update: After paying closer attention to the title of this video (totally my bad)- I discovered this button sequence addresses the issue with the PM5 itself timing out and turning off after a workout- and does not address the issue with PM5 display backlight turning off after only 10sec. And that’s fine- having a PM5 that doesn’t go into sleep when I’m away from the rower for 2min is enough of a win for me! Again, thanks for this workaround. (P.S. I also submitted a feature request to Concept 2 to allow selectable short and long timeouts for the PM5 display backlight… hope to see this rolled out in a future PM5 update.)
Always wondered about this great tip, watch out for the draining batteries of course. I have rowpro and erg data they all use electrical energy - making that row a little less green!
Or. If you’re next to a plug. Use the printer cable you can put on the back and connect it to the mains. No battery drainage then. Just runs off outlet power and stays on.
Super useful, thank you. Sometimes I row for 20 minutes multiple times while watching American football, and to avoid losing the workouts, I sync each individually to my C2 logbook. Now, if I set this to 12 hours, I can hop on and off and always pick up where I left off, and have it all in one workout for the day. 🏈 I’m going to try this today! 🔋
Awesome! I’m really pleased this tip will work for you. I guess you just have to make sure you’ve got enough battery in the first place - and like I say, make sure to turn the function or the monitor off when you’re finished!!
Great tip! I love my Concept2 but you would think after 40 years they would find a way to give you more than 10 minutes between Intervalls. Invest a bit more into a better app or more PM functions please 🙌
I think you can set the rest to longer than 10 if you want. But you then have to wait for it to finish. For folks just jumping off and on, the undefined option is better, as sometimes it could be 5 minutes, the next round could take you 6 etc.
Some excellent advice and tips in these comments, thanks all. Is there a way to turn off the Bluetooth connection on PM5? I have latest firmware and can’t see an obvious setting. I never connect to the app, just use my usb stick to transfer data to my laptop.
I know on the earlier PM5's, it was off unless you turned it on. I'm not sure whether than happens on the new ones - whether it's always on, waiting to be pinged by a device. But unless you're worried about interference, I wouldn't stress too much about it being on.
But during the workout itself the PM5 is powered by the rowing person him/herself. Even if you take out batteries you still can "just row" and have parameters displayed. Just start rowing on empty batteries / without batteries. So, when you are rowing batteries are not drained out. They only serve as a hold on when you are not rowing and use the time to set-up the training or adjust the PM5.
Yes, although even if the rower doesn’t care about saving etc, if they’re doing a circuit workout that involves rowing for 30 seconds at a time (for example) the time it takes for the monitor to wake up and start the timer will throw off the accuracy of that.
Hmmm, I’m not as hot on that. Of it’s just the standard monitor, I don’t think there’s much you can do. If you can get the Smart Row app connected, that should help.
I tried it and couldn't make it work on my PM 4. I won't rule out operator error, however. Side note, while I was working on it my batteries went from 100% to 96%.
Great tip John BUT that first 35 seconds is priceless, cheered me up no end.
Hahaha. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Trying to make these ones a bit more entertaining…
This is actually very interesting information so thank you. Also, RowAlong Treasure Hunt
Great tip -- zero chance I would stumbled upon it on my own, so thank you. And, RowAlong Treasure Hunt.
Glad to help! It's a good tip, but just remember to turn off the monitor if you use this setting!

Maybe I'll catch you at a future Hyrox event and thank you for all the help. Much appreciated!

Just what i was looking for! TYM
Thanks for watching!
This is a game changer mate thank you

Huh. That had never occurred to me. That’s an awesome tip!

Great tip! Thanks, John. And is that a new erg you’re on today?
Yes. It made its debut in the 15 minute row I posted yesterday. I’m donated my old one to my local school.
@@rowalong Well done! Great sport for kids 👍
The button sequence to keep the screen on doesn't work on PM3. Help!

Wow the 12 hour mode is a cool idea. Came to this video after having mine shut off halfway through my half marathon while switching out my tape :(
Ah, sorry to hear that. But at least you now know there’s a solution!!

Definitely killed my PM4 battery with this once! 😿

Any similar tricks for a water rower?

Remember to turn off this function so you don't drain your batteries!
Wonderful hack. Thanks
My pleasure. I just wish this one got more views, so more people could hear about it!
does this also extend the back light as well ?
You know what, I've no idea! Only one way to find out though....
Is this applicable for pm 3&4?
I believe so. I don’t have a PM3 or 4 though. So if you do, can you let me know?
I tried it and couldn't make it work on my PM 4. I won't rule out operator error, however. Side note, while I was working on it my batteries went from 100% to 96%.
Does NOT work on a PM4@@lizbillmann8479

Genius!
Hahaha flat battery, new machine required... The frustration of a man who's spent a lifetime erging often in gyms..
i use rechargeable batteries. i do not have any regular batteries and would never buy any. i even have rechargeable cr 2032 button batteries
I had no idea they made rechargable 2032's. Going by the amount I go through, I'll off to hunt some down! Thanks for the tip.
