    I am extremely moved by the story of Vetiver farmers...beyond moved. From now on when I apply Vetiver, I will be thinking about these beautiful people who labor so hard to provide a living for themselves and their families and their labors produce this most precious of oils. I used to buy a fragrance by Guerlain that my father wore. an intoxicating fragrance that I associate with him, my beloved father. And, for a while, I worked for 3 famous French skincare fragrance companies and had and wore all the perfumes and creams. Until I was introduced to DoTerra and was in the process of educating myself about the fragrances added to perfumes and creams that disrupt hormones and create imbalances in the body. I now subsitute my DoTerra oils for the expensive perfumes...and wear pure Vetiver on my wrists and behind my ears to honor myself and the memory of my amazing father. Thank you DoTerra for this beautiful video and allowing me to witness what it takes to cultivate the plant and how WE as a company are helping to make the lives of the farmers better by partnering with them.

    Amazing to see water systems created for communities who previously had to travel 3 hours to get just a gallon of clean water. Wonderful that DoTerra meets with producers to discuss their challenges to get the product from farm to distillers.

    Thumbs up if you love vetiver!
    It is such an amazing plant! Besides the roots that are harvested for oil it is an amazing plant for soil stabilization and groundwater recharge, it can produce food for livestock and windbreak for small scale farming operations. Especially the soil stabilization is remarkable. A vetiver plant can grow roots up to 3 meter deep in one year! And up to 7 meters deep over a longer period. The roots are like a spiderweb under the soil, holding everything together and allowing rainwater to penetrate.

    I can do with out the music and tears. Seriously in 2018 we as white people should know better than to present ourselves as the teary eyed shocked by poverty saviours. This can be presented in a way where it is straight forward and utilizing the voices of the haitians to speak for themselves. Otherwise I love the product.

    I live in the South department of Haiti and Vetiver is a big crop here in general as it's used in Perfumes. There is a BIG BIG problem though - because the roots and not the grass is harvested and because they harvest entire hillsides, erosion of Haiti's diminishing top soil is accelerated at an alarming level. The current practice of harvesting and processing coupled with no environmental controls, means the increased harvesting and processing of Vetiver in Les Cayes is EXTREMELY detrimental to the local environment. The pollution dumped into the waterways right outside Les Cayes processing plant alone needs to be addressed. Giving people work in Haiti is good but doing so without regard to these issues is even more detrimental to Haiti then any short term benefit.

      @doTERRA  9 років тому +62

      ***** Thank you for your comment. We also believe that short term benefits should not come at the expense of the future. Soil erosion is a serious problem in Haiti and can be exacerbated by poor farming and harvesting practices. One of the key elements of our Co-Impact Sourcing strategy is to encourage traceability between our distillation partners and the members of the cooperative groups that supply the harvested biomass. Our distillation partners in Haiti make a concerted effort to teach and train these producers to implement and use responsible practices. One of the key strategies to mitigate soil erosion is the planting and harvesting of Vetiver roots in narrow banded intervals along sloped fields. These bands create natural barriers every few meters to minimize the size and speed of possible soils slides. Other strategies include intercropping, building terraces, leaving roots in the ground longer, and not harvesting during or before the rainy season. We are not familiar with the “factory in Les Cayes” you are referring to, as that is not one of our partner producers, but are sad to hear that there are possible issues surrounding the pollution of waterways. doTERRA takes seriously its commitment to be a responsible producer and buyer of the finest essential oil products in the world. We seek to partner with producers around the globe who share this vision.

      Hopefully doTerra can find more harvesters to add into the cooperative that we can train in sustainable practices that will prevent soil erosion and continued thriving of vetiver. And that would mean that doTerra could be such an impact in their lives. Surely word will spread in Haiti so that things will get better. Change has to come from the people of the country...from you who live there. We can make a difference through doTerra in the harvesters lives through Co-impact sourcing. But you who wrote the comment and are aware of the severe problems that you addressed, I hope you are active, I hope you are doing something productive to bring about change with the government and with your countrymen who are involved with these issues. Because one person can make a difference! You CAN make a difference. I believe this!

      Madagascar is being raped and the country has about 10 years left of sustainable agricultural lands. This is the problem with extremely poor countries om EO production. they are not educated in preservation for the future and western demands upon them...in general....do not seem to care.

    That is not a stick. It is a machete. Is there a way that doTERRA could invest in supplying better harvesting tools for these workers? I would love to see these farmers working with better equipment. It would extend their life and health.
