professional chef here, some days i cant even hold a knife the pain is so bad. I've used this wrap for the last week and with proper icing and over the counter anti inflammatories the pain is almost gone. 8 years I've been dealing with this. Thank you so much, I really appreciate the time you took to make this very helpful video
Thank you for spending the time to tell us your story! This helps me know that these videos are helping people!
Ben Egan I've been through the s*** two I work as a professional chef I cook Italian food and make brick oven pizza I spend my day rolling dough balls and pounding dough and then flipping saute pans just like you man some days I woke up and my hand wouldn't even move stuck in position I've even had muscle spasms ungodly the pain
Thank you!! Used a mattock this weekend and left my thumb joint padding feeling bruised. This immediately eased the tenderness
My left saddle joint was injected yesterday..........when the short acting local wore off, it was incredibly painful, and I just used a crepe bandage as support. This morning, I watched your video re taping this area, and was lucky enough to find kinesio tape at my local dollar store!
Thank you so much..........it feels much better today! (and I CAN afford more tape!...lol)
I’ve had the lower joint removed/replaced on both hands due to osteoarthritis. Now I need this joint fused, but I’m “too young” according to my surgeon, at age 58. I’m an artist, so this is a constant pain for me. This is a new way to try the KT tape. Hoping it helps get through drawing Christmas cards!
You’ll probably never read this but I’m an artist also, 56 years old, and it’s the most devastating part of having this problem. The more I do art, the more I’m wearing that joint. It’s bone on bone and I’m in constant pain. I’ll have to have this one operated on also, like I did with my left hand. Did you get it fused? Are you able to do art now?
I hurt that joint opening a jar of salsa.... and this really helped. Thank you!
Thank you! This is perfect for the osteoarthritis I have in my thumbs. I like the way it's demonstrated so that I can apply it myself. Got a laugh over the gaming sound! Lol!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks for posting this.
Thank you so much! I wear thumb brace but it's too bulky. This is great🌟 I've been looking for something like this! I know a lot of people that could benefit. Great video!!
Thanks so much!! I jammed my thumb plato g volleyball, and I’m a setter so I need to use my hands- there was immediate relief of pain after taping!!! Thanks so much 💕
Thanks. Jammed my thump poling while skating on my skis. I have had Chiro adjust and received massage. After I crochet awhile it hurts so I am not going to crochet til healed. It also hurts when doing computer work which I cannot stop so I am trying this taping. Easy to follow and feels good. Of course it is my right hand which I am right handed. It will heal though so thanks for the solution.
Great video... I combined two different wraps... it is already helping.
Exactly what I was looking for. I have hypermobility and playing the clarinet has been putting strain on the joint, so I've been looking how to add some extra support there. Thanks so much! Ps great mix of accents!!
Thank you for the video. I've recently started boxing. And I've got a pain in thumb's mpc and basal joints after a week of punching a bag. Even can't hold dumbbells normally anymore because of the pain. So I'm sitting here right now trying to patch myself with that tape. 1st attempt got me to a dark thumb. 2nd went better - now it's just a little darker than the other one. But the basic question is - will it help both of my thumb's joints to immobile?
I've subluxed my thumb 3 times in the last week. This video really helped. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Thank you!
I'm a massage therapist, my problem began when I had acupuncture, and they forgot about me, so I had the needles in for an hour. Obviously, massage doesn't help. I will definitely try as many variations on here. Thanks. Love the accent, too.
I got this injury while playing cricket..I wonder if this will be helpful while playing, i can hardly lift stuff or even tie my hair up
I'm a 'broke' college kid with Ehlers Danlos. Thank you for saving my joints and my wallet.
I’m a dentist with severe osteoarthritis both thumbs. Had arthroscopy on left 2 yrs ago. Never got full strength back. Pain in right driving me to find something. Surgeon said surgery will take me out of being able to do oral surgery because of strength loss. Hoping this is my “magic bullet”.
Thanks for your vide9. Do you have one specifically for trigger thumb?
J L ... Ya I think I have trigger thumb! I have watched lots of video 📹 on the subject! ... 😲 Lol 😆 my right thumb hurts all the time! Wrapping it seems to help! They have exercise for the hand & thumb too. Good luck! 👍🙌👈👉👇👏☝👆✋🙏
Do you think this would be good for the left thumb of the right handed golfer which supports the weight of the club at the top of the backswing? Mine is very sore.
Just found you. Very helpful video. Thank you. Please advise of natural oils to use. Best regards from South Africa 🇿🇦
What if I want to make it so I have support for my thumb in the opposite direction (preventing it from being pushed backwards from the palm side of the hand)? Same wrap? Reverse the direction of the tape around the thumb?
Can I use this to secure a sprained thumb in sports? I play volleyball and occasionally I'll tape my thumb/fingers with zinc oxide tape to protect it from further injury, retaining most wrist mobility.
terrfic help. Thank you for clear and simple instructions. Lovely mix of Irish, Austrailian & >??Uk accents??
Thanks, top marks for picking out all the accents!
So helpful. I hyper extended my thumb catching a bullet pass at bball.
Can I go to my boxing practice with this or will it fall off?
i have some damage in my ulner collateral ligament in the thumb, i've been using this type of tape to support the joint also a strap brace, but 4 weeks in and its still causing pain weakness etc
this tape technique is perfect for that. It'll provide stability, and may reduce pain
Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I'd really like to see a shoulder taping video or four. I have issues with both shoulders, have for years. However, after a motorcycle accident 3 days ago my need for shoulder taping has dramatically increased. I know that there's multiple shoulder taping videos on UA-cam however Northern Soul is the only one that had a taping video for De Quervain syndrome that actually helped so I'm sticking with him!
Is this a good technique for chronic pain/swelling from an old skier's thumb injury?
Is this just for using on a strain or injury? What if the joint already collapsed but there is pain plus dysfunction? Will this help the situation?
Thank you so much.
Hello! I have enjoyed your taping videos, particularly because I can do them on myself without having to ask for assistance. I play the clarinet and I get joint pain as well as some of the muscular pain. Do you recommend a particular wrapping method for this?
Hello EowyntheFair! Thanks for the comment. I'd have to know the details of the injury or issue you are having in order to figure out what taping may be most beneficial. Is the issue diagnosed by a healthcare professional? I'll give you some general taping suggestions in the mean time. If you have finger issues try the Finger sprain taping, as well as trying the "general taping for pain" video, and "more effective therapy" taping video on my channel. You can find them in the Kinesio tape and technique playlist at ua-cam.com/users/NorthernSoul thanks!
EowyntheFair , which tapping method do you use? My daughter plays clarinet and has similar issues. Have you had good results.
Would this work for a sprained thumb? I got my thumb bent backwards playing goalie (football/soccer) and I was wondering if this is the best way to tape it, or maybe a different way would be more helpful. The pain is at the base of the thumb when I bend it to much in either direction.
Hi Gray Wolf! thanks for your question! This is an excellent taping which I believe will help with what you're describing. one of the things I like about this particular taping is the support you get. It feels great, give it a try!
Northern Soul ok thanks so much!
thank you...
Yes it helped with pain.
What kind tape is that?
Ive been having thumb pain, been told by my doctor its tendinitis. She told me to go out and buy a brace to support, only problem is i work in a hair salon where my hands are in water throughout the day. Is this tape somewhat waterproof to use instead on a brace?
Hello ExoticSparkle695. The tape has medical grade adhesive which means, no latex and is water resistant. So yes you will be able to get your hands wet, and soapy and it should stay on. Top tip: Apply the tape at least a hour before you plan on getting it wet. Do not rub tape dry but instead pat it dry with a towel to get most of the moisture out, then air dry.
Like Northern Souls reply yes it should be fine however it will be wet and stay wet for some time against your skin increasing your chance of contact dermatitis you can put barrier spray like cavalon underneath but not actual barrier cream
Also you can get the tape in cotton which absorbs lots of water and synthetic versions which almost repel water
Definitely try it its so helpful but id recommend a synthetic tape and maybe a spray under if needed
i want to ask you what to do if a right thumb injured by cricket bowl it is swelling and paining
Welcome Jagat! First I'd control the swelling using first aid, reducing the swelling with ice or cold therapy will help with the pain. It's hard to advise without seeing and assessing the actual thumb. Priority would be to find out if it's broken or dislocated. It would take a long write up to explain all the details of checking yourself. So I'd recommend seeing a doctor or healthcare professional you trust, and you might need imaging done to verify. Otherwise you can try edema K-taping to help as well. I have a video for when to use hot and cold, as well as a edema / swelling on my YT channel. Good luck!
I tried this last night and it was cutting circulation off. Any tips to avoid that but still have support?
Hello Sierra, If you are cutting off circulation, just back off the stretch on the tape until circulation is fine, otherwise try a tape with more stretch, which is more forgiving
If I would like to deal with edema in thumb area (taping) and at the same time try to make it stable (after injury) can I apply both of the tapings? If yes - which one first?
Hello, you can use both tapings but not at the same time. First you have to control edema. You can try it with edema taping, or this support taping and using ice, anti-inflammatories. It depends on how bad the swelling is. If it's bad enough that you need to look at it as first aid, acute injury, then treat it as such. This taping is more for late sub acute, chronic, or preventative. I hope that helps!
Thank you for the answer! One more question - what about edema that lasts for like one week or more? Is it dangerous? What can I do with it besides taping and anti-inflammatories?
Personally if it was my hand with edema lasting over a week, it could mean a more serious problem. It really should only be swollen for a few days depending on the severity of the injury. I recommend you get it diagnosed by a doctor, even if just to rule out more serious issues. They'll probably send you for x-rays and other imaging to figure out what's happening. Good luck, and I hope you have a speedy recovery
very good. thanks--don t
Per chi non ha il cerotto arancione con che colore lo può sostituire
Really work 👍👍👍
I am a massage therapist. Would I be able to perform massage after taping?
Yes and no. You could if you really wanted to but with the tape on the palm side, I feel you be making contact with your clients skin, so and lotion/ oil/gel would collect and saturate the tape in that area. You'd have to retape after. Plus I don't think it would feel good on the person you are working on. I would recommend not taping before treatments. when you complete your work for the day, then tape. Thanks for the question
Thank you so much. I was thinking the same. This is an intro to Kinesiology taping. I will keep watching.
I have been an orthopedic massage therapist for 20 years and have significant basal and CMC joint pain and instability in my dominant hand. Most days, I couldn't work without taping my thumb and it provides the stability and pain relief that allows me to work relatively pain free while also preventing further trauma to both of these joints. I've never had a client experience anything uncomfortable from the tape. I don't use oil in my work, but rather a thick, sticky cream, so that helps keep the tape from absorbing lots of oils, and I still have to re-tape after every client to maintain good hygiene from client to client and because the friction over the tape from movement over client's skin, but it is so well worth it the cost and the time.
Stephanie LeMaire I’ve been a massage therapist for 23years and one of my thumbs gets worse every now and then. But I acquired an allergy to massage lotions/gels/creams...just so many years with hands in it...my skin started to react. ANYWAY...I told you that to tell you this...i HAVE to wear nitrile gloves to keep working...that was interesting to say the least but NOW....I really LIKE it! I don’t have to touch FEET! 😃👍🏻 BUT...I’ve been taping and the gloves keep it good thru out the day...and I don’t have to re-tape all the time! I’ll retake after work...but that’s it. ALSO...tip with the gloves...get the smallest gloves that will fit TIGHTER. I use a medium...& that’s perfect. Enough stretch but not so much glove that it gets all crinkly while massaging. Hope that helps! Taping really helps ME while working!!! 👍🏻
Me too!!! 25 years of massage has destroyed my thumb😔
Can this help for guitar playing pain?
Probably, It's very effective for pain relief
Hello from USA 🇺🇸 love ❤ the colored tape! Will this help with a trigger thumb! My right thumb of course! 👍 and I have to be careful taking ibuprofen bc of kidney problems for the swelling! What kind of tape are you using and is it water proof? Love your accent 🇬🇧 Have a good day! 💒⛪⛪⛪🌈🌈🌈
taping starts @ 2:10ish
measuring tape @3:10
i fucking love this video
Good vid man. Quick question. I have this tape as well but it is precut already and it's only 25 cm long. Will this length work with this thumb wrap as well?
Personally I'd just buy a normal roll that isn't precut, it's more versatile. However, if that's the only tape you have... The most important part of this taping is the thumb joint wrapping part. If you at least have enough tape for that, it should still work. Precut tape just doesn't make sense to me. Good luck
Well I might as well use it now already bought it. Thanks. I'll get some of regular stuff as well.
Have any clarinetists tried this? I want to see if this will help my poor right thumb. If you play a lot, you know the pain I'm talking about!
I killed my thumb playing bass clarinet for a week (you know, those low notes you have to play with your thumb). Will try this out now, hopefully it works
Tape for days 😂
Is this taping technique good for someone with skier's thumb? I wore a cast for six months to give the ligament a chance to heal, and I was fine for many years, but now I am getting reoccurring pain in the thumb joint. I need grip strength support because I am constantly grabbing and lifting heavy books and I am looking for some type of support to the joint. Also, why is it necessary to use two different colors of tape.? Couldn't you just use the two pieces you initially cut from the yellow?
Hi Sues, This taping technique is very supportive. You've got nothing to lose trying this technique. Good luck! I also use this one from time to time. As far as the different coloured tape goes, I used two different colours so the viewer could see the overlap of the two strips easier. I would normally just use the same colour as you mentioned. So it's just as a visual aid. Or if you wanted to have fun with colours.
Northern Soul Thanks! I just checked out the video where you compare several different tape brands. Very informative. I always thought the different colors represented different strengths or the amount the tape would stretch. I'm going to try this technique and see if it helps. 👍
Kroikey, Mite ! Ees theta shag cappit yer kneelin' on ? Thet's gaughtabe fiefty yeaz auld !
lol thanks for the laugh Joe, I thought when I first looked at your words it was in another language and was getting out the google translate! Shag carpet FTW! makes a fine backdrop
I am a hand therapist. You have Nice easy to follow instructions which would be helpful for both joints of the thumb. You should however review anatomy. The joint that you are referring to is not a "saddle joint". The basilar joint is the Carpometacarpal joint or CMC joint. It is the base of the thumb and has the bone that is in the shape of a saddle, the Trapezium. The MP joint is where you are wrapping the Metacarpalphalangeal joint.
I am also a professional chef so I can't change what I do
I rationalize the price by telling myself it's dramatically cheaper than a trip to the ER for some ibuprofen.🤷
👍😠
please dont tape the web of the thumb , it is delicated skin,
Please stop tapping your joint! Lol. It hurts to watch! Lol
Get to the freaking point and stop babbling
I’m a dentist with severe osteoarthritis both thumbs. Had arthroscopy on left 2 yrs ago. Never got full strength back. Pain in right driving me to find something. Surgeon said surgery will take me out of being able to do oral surgery because of strength loss. Hoping this is my “magic bullet”.
