I live in the Ozarks in Arkansas. I can tell you heated grips and heated seats come in handy when you have to ride for many miles in Spring/Summer rainstorms. They aren't just foe cold weather.
Agreed! I thought it was only going to be useful in the cold mornings but I find myself having the heated seat on a lot! I still find it amusing when you get off the seat after a rainy ride to see steam coming off it!
New member of KTM marketing department: "why don't we fit those Ergo seats as standard?"
Experienced members of KTM marketing department: *intense glare!*
Great edition to the bike, Sam, it will be great for winter and long rides for keeping your core temp up. It's something I'm thinking of doing as I'm getting older and creaky as it will be nice for early morning or late evening rides in spring and autumn. I couldn't make out the price without my glasses but it looked under £200, which seems good value, with improved comfort too. 👍
It's been a dream on the early morning runs into work. Put it on for 10 mins, then turn it off and the residual heat is perfect for the next hour! It's a luxury but you won't regret it. You're right, it's £180 so not horrendous pricing! Cheers for watching as always bud, hope you're keeping well
@@SamVBikes that seems like a fair price and it looks good too. I find with heated grips I can use summer gloves most of the year so the same principles apply. Your welcome, I always enjoy your uploads and look forward to the next installment. Have a good week mate 👍
Makes riding year round that little more tolerable! Thank you! Means a lot. Have a good week too mate
Nice vid mate! Well explained, just like your crash guard video. Will help me when I get the seat(s). Please can you add the KTM part numbers to the description? Always helpful when others want to order. How long did it take for the seats to arrive from the time you ordered?
Thank you mate! Appreciate the kind words. Sure I'll dig that out - need to find the order form! It took around 2 months annoyingly. My dealer seem to have a huge backlog of orders
Hello Sam, Thank you for your videos. I will have my new 1290 SAS in a few days but I don't know if exist any diagnosis app or odb2 machine for ktm. When I has my BMW, I used MotoScan but with ktm don't meet any tool. Thank you friend!
3 months for panniers for the GT, mid Feb apparently we'll see
It seems that parts stock across everything is taking forever! Maybe they should link up with Amazon Prime haha!
Just found your channel as I'm looking to buy one, a 1290 SAS not a channel 😁, love your style, really enjoying your vids. Question: Heated grips....heard they aren't that good...thoughts ??
Haha! I find the grips to work pretty well. Obviously not tried them in winter yet but they are plenty hot enough for the 10 degree evening chills!
As a convert to a heated jacket a few years ago I can't work out if a heated seat would add much to winter comfort
I didn't think it would be worth it, but it definitely makes a difference when your lower half gets cold. I didn't take my heated jacket to Motorcycle Live and it was freezing on the way home, heated seat is always there same as the grips are. Don't go out your way to get one, but if moneys burning a hole in your pocket, it's a delight!
I never ordered the heated seat until a couple of weeks ownership .I just plugged it in and installed it without a trip to dealer . can only assume they unlocked it during tech pack install .purchased bike from Northampton Moto and bought seat from triple d .
I wonder if some dealers just unlock everything if you get tech pack like you say! It's odd how some have no issues at all
just a thought.i had heated grips fitted when I ordered the bike so maybe when the grips are activated the seat is also activated ?
That could definitely be the case. When I was at KTM getting this seat activated, they basically asked me if I wanted everything turned on, so I assume its just a tick box in the software for them. I assume some just tick them all!
Hi there, i have just mounted my ergo seat on my sas 2022. Honestly, i feel like the standard one was more soft. So far i don’t feel better on it
They get better over a few hundred miles. Softens up etc. Still not GS comfy, but way better than stock in my opinion
Good night from Spain... and thanks for your information... I only have one question, is the standard height ergo seat as high as the standard seat?... does the ergo seat feel narrower in the front area and thus makes it easier to reach the ground even though it is the same height as the original seat?... thank you very much!
Hey! I'd say it's a little higher than that standard seat as there is more padding. It does feel thin on the sides so it doesn't make it too hard to get your feet on the ground. You can obviously put it in the low position though which helps even more!
Why be cold when you can be warm? Fk being tough get that heated kit on. Thanks for the video.
Nice video! I've just bought a 2021 Super Adventure S which is being delivered next week. Do you know if the same issue you had with the heated seat (having to get it 'activated' by the dealer) applies to the heated grips as well? Can't believe they aren't fitted as standard!
Thanks! I think they will only need to be activated if you fitted them after buying the bike. If you ordered them with your bike, it will come up straight away! It's crazy they aren't standard equipment!
@@SamVBikes yeah, I bought the bike then realised it didn't have heated grips, I was hoping I could fit them myself but if they need to be activated I'll get the dealer to do it 👍 many thanks, I'll be watching your video ls with interest....
Would be good to get them to do it. Hopefully they will make a neat job of it. They are very good though! Thanks for watching!
You do not have the passenger seat heating function activated. I do not have such seats and the functions are available in the menu. Strange because I had it from the moment I bought it in the KTM dealer
Some dealers must switch them on from factory, but my dealer didn't. My girlfriend has her own bike so don't need the rear heated seat! Save the money!
Hi sam, just order a new 1290 at a very good price. Hated the standard seat. Whats your thoughts a year on about the seat & heat ? 🤔
Congrats on the new bike!
I still love it. It's done a good 20k miles now since putting it on. There are definitely more comfortable options on the market, but IMO, most other options look horrific. This gets more comfortable the more you ride it. Almost wears in like a good pair of shoes.
I did 880kms down to the south of France and didn't have a numb arse!
The heating isn't a necessary thing, but once you've had it, you can see why everyone raves about it. It warms you through to the core! Would 100% buy the heated one again
Just for Info. If you add the tall ergo seat, in the high position with the standard pillion seat. There isn't a gap as such, but the back of the rider seat is more exposed. And creates a valley between the seats. Looks like someone will be buying the ergo pillion soon. 😂
Haha they get you with simple things like that! I'm still really happy I went with the ergo seat though
In terms of confort, did you feel any difference while riding with the new seat ?
Definitely! I'm not one to moan about a sore behind as I'm always on the bike. It's not instantly life-changing, but on a longer journey it was night & day. It's not as plush as some of the other brand's comfort seats, but compared to the stocker, it's definitely worth it!
Hi Sam, which Topcase do you have mounted? It looks like a Givi. I am looking for a Givi Monolock Adapter Plate. Do you know if it fits from its predecessor? TIA
Hi! I don't have one fitted to this bike yet as Givi haven't made a plate for it yet! My topbox is a Givi Trekker Dolomiti which will go on as soon as they make one!
Ahh no that's my girlfriends bike behind mine haha! It's an NC750X so you can't see if behind it!
Hi Sam, great videos and great channel! I know this will be entirely subjective but having ridden both do you feel the KTM Ergo seats make the 1290 Adv. more comfortable than a GS, on par with or not as comfortable? Cheers, Dave ✌🏻
Hey! Thank you!
No haha! You might hear me say in other videos that I think the ergo seat should be the stock seat to come on the adventure bikes from KTM. KTM stock seats are always very firm which is fine for the naked bikes, or off road focused bikes, but when you're sitting on the motorway for hours, you need actual comfort. I think this KTM ergo seat is as comfortable as a stock GS seat, but the GS comfort seat makes this look like a plank of wood! Hope that helps!
@@SamVBikes thanks Sam, appreciate you replying! I'll make a judgement on it on my demo ride this weekend... See if I can finally be torn away from my beloved GS Adventure 😂
Haha! Let me know how you find it. I'd say it's more of a S1000XR rival with the ability to go off road. An oversized Superduke! Absolutely incredible bit of kit, but it won't match the GS for touring comfort etc. It does the long journey's nearly as well as the GS, but when you get where you're going and you want a playful bike to enjoy the roads, that's the SAS!
@@SamVBikes well, I rode it and didn't get on with the 1290 sadly. The engine is banzai fast and I really wanted to love it but it lacked the refinement and build quality of a BMW. (Whoever designed the indicator switch needs to be punished for their crimes too!) Have a new 1250 GS Triple Black on order instead..
@@davegregory6245 That's a shame! I understand it though. Some people love it, some people don't get on with it. I guess its a case of overlooking some of the refinement in place of having the ASBO factor. It's basically a Superduke in an adventure bike frame! Great choice on the Triple Black though!
My 2022 SAS had both heater grips and seat menu items available to select without either pre-installed. Must have been a fix by KTM for 2022 models.
Thanks for the info. Fitted a heated seat but had no menu selection for any “heating”. Went to the dealer 45 minutes away, after staying there for an hour, they sent me away saying they’d call me after speaking with KTM.
That sounds a bit suspect! Not sure why they wouldn't have just turned the option on... its a 5 min job. Might be worth digging into it more. Ask them why KTM need to be consulted!
@@SamVBikes they just started selling street going KTM’s this year and are ignorant about the diagnostic tools use, I have had 3 KTM’s, love the bikes but their dealer network is bad in my part of US.
That makes sense. Not sure if you can buy a tool online. I know a lot of people used to because it was a crime that the big manufacturers fitted all the features to your bike, then turned them on based on how deep your pockets were, so people started buying the tools online. Not sure where you'd start with that though
Done my ktm heated grips works as it should... But heated seat isn't... What the hell KTM?!!! even on screen it shows heating on max but nothing.. comfort wise.. hm, same as standart seat.
It takes a while to come on and will only work when the engine is running. Take it for a 15min ride and try that. It's not as obvious at first as the heated grips
Bro just said Hemel? As in Hemel Hempstead 🤔
@@SamVBikes Small world 🤣 knew you couldn't be too far, uve got the Hertfordshire humor 😌
Haha! I've got one subscriber that lives around the corner from me, was really odd because he was talking on here and then said his wife saw me!
@@SamVBikes Mans got his wife keeping tabs on you🤣
I'm close, but not that close. St. A
Sam, just a tip for when you are playing with screen settings with the ignition on, you can eliminate the fuel pump and its' drain on the battery by pressing the kill switch. Enjoy the videos, thanks
Ahh beautiful! Not sure why I didn't think of that! Thanks!
Cheers , didn't think of that either 🙄
