It's also where there are a ton of experienced, competent people. Plus a huge variety of interesting locations. Plus things like prop houses. Need a telephone booth from 1947 for your film? The prop house has that. Guess where the prop house is: LA.
Maaaaan, I know it's an Arri and all that but YOU'RE JAKOB OWENS SMH. I saw you make shit look EPIC AF off a damn Gh4 & A7S2. Don't you still have the REDS? I'll never tell another human being how to spend their bread or offer any type of investing insight, but your quality even WITHOUT an Arri has already been ready for the big screen. I would've cut that Camera rental alllll the way out of the budget. The same with lighting. You're an absolute animal with the minimalist shit that you've done in the past. I hate to say it, but if anybody on UA-cam could've gotten this done for a fraction of this total amount, it's JOP!!!!!! I'm gonna watch it anyways of course, but your shit was already ready even without spending the BAG-BAG lol.
@@dreamflostudio might do a editing breakdown at some point, but I don’t plan on making any money from the Film as you really can’t make money from short films
@@jakobowens8439 A guy your caliber could host something at a theatre. You could share multiple films from friends and associates throughout the evening. Get people interested in the potential feature. Make a day out of it with questions after the film, sell merch from your companies, serve some drink/food from the supplied vendors. Could make a buck or two :) I'd go.
@@prismlensfx I've done it and it made us $5000. with all do respect you guys just spent 7 Grand on a location hoping it would green light a feature. It's all about rolling the dice brother!

As someone who's made several shorts/pilots in LA the line that surprised me most was $750 for the actress. There are so many actors in LA looking to make shorts that they'll do it free or almost free. I believe everyone should be paid, but I can't imagine that if you had offered $200 or $300 she would have said no (unless she's already a full-time actress with a better gig). Was there a negotiation? Did you offer $500 and she said no? 😄
“The Budget” (the most horrifying movie of them ALL!) 😂

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅
So glad to see videos like this. A lot of people think movies, even passion project shorts are made for free!!!!!
they can be made for free or very cheap but they can also get expensive too!
Thank y'all for watching, excited to share the short film with yall around Halloween :)
Budget breakdown of our recent short film!
Are you surprised by the cost of this film?
awesome break down, there's so much red tape that L.A requires that's why productions are moving out there

yup!
$3500 for G&E! That is super cheap!!!!
Most people don't know!! Even I didn't know that's cheap, and I'm into filmmaking!!! Learn something new everyday!!!
When will we get to see the film?
around halloween!
Sam is definitely a KING 👑 was this his first shoot?
No he's been producing for us for years now.
Great video! Question tho... How much did you pay your DP? Did I miss that?
OMG...yea totally left out and forgot about that line item.
We paid him $1K
Sorry don't know how that slipped through the cracks.
@@prismlensfx All good man! Totally understand- that was a ton to go through. Appreciate the clarification!
Awesome video! I would love to see the editing and distribution process. Also, how do you intend to make a profit from the film.

At least not to my knowledge so if you know of a way to make money from short films, please let me know lol

Those location & FilmLA fees are BS. I can see why now everyone is leaving LA.

Really interested in using your friends insurance, would love to know where to go to apply

Unless he actually owns the insurance company.
What would be the estimated editing and color grading budget for this project?
$0 because Jakob Owens did it himself

she's a popular young actress who's been in a lot of big projects who's repped by an agency. That was just her/their fee, no way around it.
