How to Transplant from Hydroponic to Soil Garden

- The plants I am showing in this video are Shishito peppers. The hydroponic system is Aerogarden Farm XL. You can move plants from any of the hydroponic systems to the soil garden outdoor.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I have a pepper plant I call baby and he took over my entire hydro garden. He has a trunk! Lol. I was so worrie I'd kill him trying to transplant him.

Thank you for this video! Looking at getting a beginners kit for my son for Christmas and I wanted to make sure we could move from hydro to soil for the bigger plants like tomatoes or lettuce or bell peppers…
2:00 you've given me an idea to fix your problem. I'm starting a box and tower hydroponic nursery, and this step worries me the most. I will try bundling the roots after cutting them. If you wrap gently with something, it will compress the roots and make it easier to pass through the hole. I got this idea from hospitals with patients that have a ring stuck on a finger. To get it out, they wrap a thin string many times around the tip of the finger. This compresses it (as it's usually very swolen), and if they feed it under the ring and pull on it, the ring magically rolls down the tip of the finger.

This video is a couple days over one year old, but I'm just now finding it on April 4th 2022 and I'm glad I did. I am currently growing strawberry plants via Hydroponics. This is my first time Ever using Hydroponics to grow anything. But I must tell you, they are growing like weeds and taking over my living room. These plants have a root system that is about half the size of the plants above. But I'm going to transplant into soil specifically made for strawberries. And now, using your method I am going to transplant them and keep the plants inside, using plant lights and timers, keeping the soil watered twice a day. *Subscribing and I'll let you know how they turn out. Thank you for the video. It steered me in the right direction.
I had great success with transplanting strawberries from hydroponic to soil last year. They will look wilted for 1 week or 2, then bounce back. It helps to cut off some leaves so that they dont get too dehydrated. Good luck.

I grew too many tomato and pepper plants, not expecting them to live like they are, grown hydroponically, so I need to get rid of a bunch and am selling them to people…… I would feel bad if they died after I gave them to people;
@@blessisrael6455 (for people who also have the same question) her tips would most likely mitigate the issues that most would have when moving a hydroponic plant into soil, which would usually make a plant die from shock
cutting the roots would be a worry some would have in regards to moving the plant into soil, but she shows that that's not much of a concern along with easing the plant from a hydroponic environment to a more natural one
i'm not sure if her tips work but it would be better to try then to not use her tips

I don't see why not, people grow veggies hydroponically in the green house all the time. The only concern I have is high temperature might make the roots rot, or lettuces bolt faster.

Because the root is so huge, I dont want to damage it any further. Therefore, I put the whole pod in.

I have a buddy that likes to start plants as hydroponic and then move them to soil after the seedling stage. I just wanted to see whether or not it was better or easier to do it that way. I think I'll stick to just starting them in soil.
There is definitely less work if you transplant them when they are small. It took me more effort in this video because these plants are already fully grown.
I'm wondering about the plastic root basket that it's growing in.
You didn't remove yours?
Should they be removed so they don't strangle the plants?
If the plant is small and I can remove the roots without damage, I remove the basket of course. If the plants are already big, it is impossible to wiggle the roots out. It is best to leave it intact and then dig the basket up later once done.

Aerogarden has a "newish" design where the top of the unit is swapped out for a special "seed starting top". This is sold as an add-on. It has many more holes because you don't have to allow lots of space for mature root growth. Have you heard of this? I am thinking of buying one.
Aerogarden has been offering this seed starting option for a while now. I have one for the Basic and one for the Farm XL model. I like it for starting seeds before taking them outdoor to plant in ground for spring.

If your plant is small and doesn't have much roots, I would remove the plastic basket. The plants I have in this video have developed root systems. Removing the plastic basket would put the plants under a lot of stress, and they are more likely to die. You can always dig up the plastic basket when your plant is done being in the soil.

Yes, they both did.
You don’t take out of the little plastic holder?
I take it out when the plants are small and roots are easily to be removed without being damaged. The plants in this video are mature and they are very hard to be removed. That's why I left them in.
Do you have a technique for removing the plastic from smaller plants without damaging the plant or it roots?
I don’t know why but my plants do not grow such large root systems
Do you plant peppers? Different plants have different root sizes. Lettuce and herbs wouldn't have this much roots. Cucumbers on the other hand have huge root system.
Should I take them out for a walk? Lol.
