Another fact that you should know is that the mythology of Bakunawa and Haliya was also used in BGYO's music video for 'The Baddest' as well. If you remember there is a scene that shows a giant serpent like dragon in the sky on the video and they also greeted a woman which they address as "Binibining Haliya" at the end of their video.

Hi I'm from Negros Occidental part of Visayas region. It is really true that "Bakunawa" or sea serpent is part of our methology. When we we're young everytime there is an eclipse our grandparents told as that the Bakunawa is eating the moon.

When I was a kid we used to play the game "BULAN-BULAN" and if the Moon shallow by the darkness my father told us to make a noise. I really don't know it was real.
Ako din, ang saya non, kaso sabi ko nung una ano yung Bulan, kasi nga tagalog ako, yung mga kalaro ko di din alam, basta nilalaro lang namin. Hanggang sa nung HS nagkaron ako ng mga teacher na galing Visayas at pinag aralan namin yung kwento ni Bakunawa at 7 buwan, don ko nalaman bakit Bulan at bakit ganun yung laro.

I had an idea about this folklore but Cashual Chucks interpretation made me appreciate Felip,s creative mind more. I also remember the elders telling stories of their childhood, whenever there is an eclipse, they go out of their respective houses and make annoying noise, pots n pans, honking of cars hoping that they can prevent the Bakunawa from swallowing the moon…. But still the bakunawa still swallows the moon…. The people make noise even louder… And then the moon reappears again… cute story isnt it?
All mythology have it's dark side but Philippines probably has the darkest and one of the most gruesome.
I remember when I was a kid my grandparents use to make loud noice evetime there is lunar eclipse
I didn't know the full story so now I know why every solar eclipse we make noise as load as we can

BGYO also used the Bakunawa/Haliya Folklore as reference on their The Baddest MV. It was just modernized.
Fun Fact this CB song was suppose to be released on May 15 which is Total Lunar eclipse or having that Red moon, but he had to re schedule it because of very important matters that time 😅

We've got a lot of beasts in our mythology similar to Greek/Roman mythology. Unfortunately most of the stories have been destroyed/forgotten a long time ago, Felip's goal is for the youth/next gen to discuss ,dig and learn about our ancestry/roots, I must say it's a job well done.

When I first watched the MV, I was kinda confused what happened with the Bakunawa. But watching Casual Chuck’s explanation, it made sense. The Bakunawa in the MV disappeared with the sound of the gong. I was mind blown over this.
Even us Filipinos werent aware of this mythology

Bloor or red moon happens often than we think, but it is only visible in the same location every 2 1/2 year (more or less).
Why every 2 1/2 years? I guess that's the time of event that red blood moon always occurred? That's why in Felip's Bulan Music video Haliya's worn red dress with red veil to represent the blood whenever Bakunawa tries to swallowed her.
