I’ve heard that many intellectuals micro dose on psychedelic mushrooms in order to improve their brain function, so it’s not completely illogical to make the connection.
Micro dosing has also shown to help with depression. Larger doses can also change your views on everything. It opens your mind therefore can increase your creativity.
Fun fact- In his childhood, Shostakovich went looking for mushrooms in the woods with his sisters. Apparently, he wasn't very good at it- his sister Zoya recalled that he could be standing on top of a mushroom and not even notice.
8:46 that's very good advice, because that's how composer Johann Schobert (c. 1720-1767) died. He made a soup for dinner with mushrooms of which he thought were edible but actually weren't. He and most of his family died at that same dinner because of this...
Lovely video! Much like you did with Bach, I’d love to see a “reboot” of your Alexander Scriabin video. He’s one of my favorite composers and your production quality has improved significantly. I’d also love to see videos about Glenn Gould, Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, and George Crumb!
I don't really take requests for video reduxes, as that's more of a personal project. Gould, Coleman, and Davis have been duly noted [ lentovivace.com/classicalnerd.html ] but I'm holding off on Crumb because I'm not sure his compositional career is over ...
Yes! I was a weird kid who had all the academic texts on fungi and I love to forage for the yummy little things of the forest. Before music became the biggest part of my life cooking was. I was obsessed with getting the best quality and rarest foods.
Reminds me of Einojuhani Rautavaara's quote about how he views composition as like gardening, where things grow organically out of each other and the composer is just the gardener. I'd love to see a video about him too, he's got a really interesting story.
I don’t have that kind of reverse synesthesia. When I hear sounds I certainly see them as shapes and colors but I never have seen something and imagined it as sound. Music is dynamic and an image is a static imagine so to me it doesn’t translate.
I thought at first this was just gonna be a John Cage episode, just not presented like normal history episodes to fit with Cage's own unconventional music
Idk why I expected magic mushrooms but regular ones are just as magical

For his defense, his eyesight was really bad :)
Do you remember where you found this anecdote?
Thrilling information! Thanks.

That level of disassociation is what drives composers to realize what is going on in their brains…. Mushrooms are like the DLC pack for life
Lest we forget 'Little Mushroom' himself, Franz Schubert
Psychedelic mushrooms can also give people synesthetic experiences...

I expected this to be about psychedelics, but I'm now incredibly fascinated with mushrooms
I love this almost vlog esc style of filming! do more videos of you just wandering around, really enjoyed this
I don't think this will be my usual style going forward, but it was really fun to film and I'll definitely do a little bit more in the future.
i really connected to this - more the forest and nature in general - i write a lot while walking.. hiking.. trail running. Glad i found this channel
Lovely video, I love your journalistic adventures around town!
I love mushrooms!
I heard Cage was hired to give a talk to a uni music dept. - He was given free reign - he gave a talk on mushrooms!
Thanks for all the great videos! I came across your content about six months ago and have enjoyed it so much since then.
THE RETURN OF THE KING.
Also, happy advanced birthday to you Mr.Little! 😄😄😄🤗🤗🤗
Thank you! So ... wait, do people just know when my birthday is now?
@@ClassicalNerd That's the thing about being famous.
@@ClassicalNerd not until they search the bio...🤣😉
@@mitodrumisra8972 Ha, ha! I'm used to people not even knowing/realizing that there's even a request pool ... my site totally slipped my mind.
wasn't expecting this

I did a video about Rautavaara some years ago, not long after he passed. It's not exactly up to my current production standards, but it's out there!
Very interesting video!! You are a natural orator!
I’ve heard Yale prof Ingram Marshall used to take his students out looking for mushrooms, didn’t realize it was a thing with composers!
Not going to lie, I was expecting this video to be primarly about magic mushrooms too... xD still, a fine video my friend!
Psychedelic or not 😂😂 the algorithm scares me sometimes. I may be having some mushies.
Don’t forget the greens!!! A musicians staple 👌🏻 🌲
🔥🥦🔥
What a well made and interesting video! Keep it up
Why DO composers like mushrooms?
Maybe it's because they were *fungis* to be around?
(Apologies for the joke - I just couldn't resist!)
Lol I remember that when I was a kid I used to pick mushrooms with my friends. Lots of fun.
Love this video
Fascinating!
Eat the right mushooms and you too can experience synaesthesia
1. Mushrooms are quiet. Composers hate noise. 2. Cage said mushrooms help you concentrate: if you focus on mushrooms, you will learn their mystery.
... is it because they're fun guys?
You beat me to it!
im gonna beat you both
Make a video about Dario Castello, its gonna be a easy video to make i promise

It was said Mushroom is the word entry before Music in the dictionary.
I presume Cage didn’t utilise his aleatoric practices when he picked mushrooms. His career would have been a lot shorter.
Can you talk about Erich Korngold please? I really want to know about him :)

I think of Jonas Gruska on this one...👌💚
frederic rzewski (rip 😢) or einojuhani rautavaara?
I've done Rautavaara many years ago. Rzewski has been added at lentovivace.com/classicalnerd.html
Because shrigma
SHRIGMA MALE GRINDSET
Is this why Mario bros is so successful?
i never cared for mushrooms or any other trend
liked very much ur new vid style, much better
