This song has always been an annoyance to me. When I had play it at church, I actually sublimated my dislike by playing it as written; no embellishments...3 sharps I think. This woman who is just plain beautiful, sans artifice, imbues it with such boundlessly grateful passion; such hope filled nuance, spot on phrasing and the innovations, which I could not have mastered on the piano are just sublime; it becomes a paean to the plan of salvation..stunning.... love the guy on the frets...both worthy of the attention of all music lovers, especially those who have studied music; Carnegie, or a mass audience anywhere and, of course, a gorgeous Hallmark to my Savior....Jesus.... Major props, admiration and thanks....

My Seminary professor in Kansas City, Missouri (A.L. Butler) wrote the melody to this hymn. This interpretation is as noteworthy as it is heartwarming. The Jazz chords are always a huge plus in my book (separates the men from the boys) & the delicious vocals are beyond superb! Thank you so very much for sharing your talents & using them for the glory of our Lord!

@@TochiAnu Diane - Whether Tochi knows it or not - the leads beautiful vocal line is based on the old tune named 'ada' - i so much prefer this ada tune lead to the typical hymn version. While - I like the melody line of ada the chords miss the jazziness inherent in the song and lead. Tochi gets that and adds a beautiful ascending chord pattern by ear. i do it descending - i play it in E. I use a descending bass much like the chords to billy joel's piano man - so the main pattern is this walk: E/E chord then E/eb in bass and then E/db in bass then E/B - then A, A/ab, A/gb, and B/B and repeat to finish verse 1 chorus starts on A then second redeemed is E then C# then B then back to main verse pattern to finish second line of chorus
