- 4th place at my first Mega Avalanche! I even led the Glacier. What an experience and what a way to finish a very tough 5 weeks on the road. Here is the full race run, and make sure you have the sound on, as the running commentary is worth a laugh at 🤦♂️😆 Don't miss the part when the smart helicopter pilot drops down in front of me and creates a mini tornado for me to try and ride through when I was already totally f***ked 😂

4th place is an AMAZING achievement, particularly for your first Mega Avalanche. Balls of titanium, every one of you. Major respect.
Have to say Jack, having watched a shed load of these Mega vids and made one myself this has gone straight into the top drawer. What a thrilling opening, not just taking the lead(!!!!!) (!!!!!!!!!!) but some of those line choices over the rocks...it was like being witness to a parallel dimension(808th in 2019, thought I did great). Also is it just us Brits who talk shite to ourselves during the Mega? I mean the greatest mtb race ever, why wouldn't you?
I was beginning to think we were there for comedy value and make up the numbers but this, the best Brit result ever, it's f***ing on Jack. Can we dream a dream? 2022!!!!

16:13 Stupid helicopter pilot slowing him down with the rotorwash, creating extra wind to slow him down, giving the other riders an unfair advantage.
I hope he wasn’t doing it to me on purpose 🤦♂️😆 I don’t think he was, just didn’t realise I guess 🤷♂️
I suspect that he was deliberately pushing the rider in front along...
Pilots know that happens. If they don't they shouldn't be flying. Wanker of a move on the pilot's part.
@@JackReadingMTB If you ask me, you should call this in, so these idiots stop doing that just for a good photo/video from the Helo... But maybe he get's paid a few bucks to slow fast guys down and give the leaders a few seconds. That's my theory.
@@JackReadingMTB he fucking realise.about they rotor wash. Plus I am positive that sort of flying at very low altitude is against the fucking regulation. No fucking way he be allow to that while the slopes are full with skiers. I just watch Stethan Peter Go pro footage. Each time the chopper pilot would cricle 100 meter in front of Peters then the pilot would cricle around and get 20 m infant of you where the wash gave Peter a assist and you a disadvantage. The Pilot was doing this on purpose knowing this. I would shoot in a protest the footage is there. At less you would be award the equal winner.
What a production! You deliver the action, finish in the top 4, deliver a running commentary and do the post race interview. You're a one man TV channel!

Thank you for having your Go-Pro aimed properly. It seems like the others are always pointed too low, giving an excellent opportunity to study in detail the front tire of the bike, and not so much the trail ahead.

Yeah for sure! I was on the struggle bus already and when that wind started pushing me the wrong direction I couldn't believe what was happening 🤦♂️😆 thankfully he got the message and moved away

Great effort. You were quick on the rocks up top and I know why - I rode this track back in 2012 and remember thinking "this is the Peak District on steroids!"

I've watched many of these races, both Mountain of Hell and Megavalanche, and I always wondered if the riders found that helicopter annoying AF. Now I have my answer.
😂😂😂 honestly, for the most part it was sick having it around. Added to the adrenaline. But when he dropped in front of the me and the wind it created almost stopped me while my lung were trying to come out of my mouth... yep he can fuck off 🤦♂️😂👍

The scariest thing for me is the flowy section just right after the big ascent. It must he hard to navigate those fast turns when you are absolutely cooked up from all the pedaling...
That was awesome riding, just a little more fitness, no helicopter and its yours. Having time to adjust your goggles and navigating that track, kudos mate that was sick.
post-race analysis was correct. Needs to work on the peddling. You descend like a Banchi.

Great bike control, that was really impressive. The frequent F-bombs made me wonder if you actually enjoyed this, do you realize how gifted you are? Don't be so hard on yourself you rode very well.

Not at this point, I would have liked a clear trail to get off my brakes on the downhill stuff 😉 I just didn’t have the fitness to hold on once it got flat and uphill

That was a perfect start, taking the curve with zero mistake . Absolutely great ride. The only way to optimize the time is memorizing every inch of the race to get confortable and to RELAX a bit!. It seems you had some trouble with the lenses, as you mention it is dark , however the camera was recording with decent light conditions.
Yes I had a tinted lens on for the glacier and open parts, and it was super dark in the trees at the bottom

Looks like the wash from the helicopters is making it extra hard. That must be annoying when your that tired already. Great video. First one I’ve seen with someone who spoke English. How often do you race events like this and where are you from?
I’m from Manchester in England mate. And this is the first time I’ve raced once of these races, I normally race downhill World Cup

Dude, good going..Do you get practice runs for the race?..Can you come a week early and train on the course?
We get some time to practice, but the glacier isn't groomed before the race so you have no idea of the speed into the corners until you race, which is why I misjudged the one and lost the lead

Looks like someone needs to have a chat with the helicopter pilots. With the camera equipment today, I don't think they need to try to mow the grass and create a ton of rotorwash. As if the race isn't hard enough as is.

Incredible holeshot! First five minutes were so FAAAAAST...
As for being caught up so fast between minute 40:35 & 41:00 there are a couple of 'legal' shortcuts through the vegetation. Watch some other leader videos and you'll see them take the 'hidden' trails.
I never realised how annoying a helicopter could be, everything from creating headwind to blowing signs into your path 🙄 what do those pilots think when they do that???
Bro don't look back.... You lose 20-30seconds every back..... Or even you lose control..... Try not to speak...... And don't shout at helicopter you will get tired.... If you had ignore this you might be in no. 1
