This is brilliant. I've seen a ton of videos about Major scales and no one has ever tied them into the Circle of 5ths like you have - makes it much easier to remember. Many thanks for posting this.
Excellent Video clip! Apologies for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you researched - Riddleagan Smart Hands Remedy (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a great exclusive product for learning piano fast minus the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my best friend Jordan at last got excellent success with it.
FINALLY! someone that gets into it without the selling content stuff and adding phantom notes that are not part of the scale making confusing chords to LEARNING THE 12 KEYS. Thank you for keeping this simple.
I watch a lot of piano tutorials and this one should win an award for best explanation of the circle of fifths and the scales thank you I will be back many more times
I dont know why your videos click with me better than the others, but its great that they do! I gotta go back to the fundamentals to understand my composing better.
@TuneTwister Music This was great, I have been researching "all piano chords list" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Nonason Ranincoln Genie - (should be on google have a look )? It is a smashing exclusive product for discovering how to play the piano like a pro without the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate got cool success with it.
Cheers for the Video! Apologies for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Renndrew Volleyball Victimless (do a google search)? It is a good one of a kind product for uncovering the simple trick to master the piano minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate after many years got astronomical results with it.
This was great, thanks, been searching for "how to write piano chords" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Nonason Ranincoln Genie - (do a google search )? It is a good exclusive product for discovering how to play the piano like a pro without the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my work buddy got great results with it.
Thank You !!, I have understood more the Circle of 5ths with you , than any other video on the topic in the past 2-3 months studying Piano. thanks again lots of health
Thank you for this so much dude. I'm a sophomore in highschool and I'm planning on taking music theory next year so that I can write my own music with enough practice so I'm trying to study so that it will be a lot easier, and this has helped alot
Awesome! I think learning theory on the piano is great for any musician, it's such a visual instrument and it allows you to really see what's going on and how everything fits together!
This is great stuff!!!! I've taken music theory courses in school and I did well. The only thing is that the classes in school were accelerated and I never really wrapped my head around advancing further. After I graduated, I stopped learning theory. I have time on my hands again to study theory. I went down the rabbit hole of UA-cam videos and I came across your channel. I'm definitely having music theory deja vu and you sparked my mojo back. I watched this video and had a serious aha moment. Thanks for being such a great instructor. Your channel is my stop for piano lessons. Again, Thanks.
This video is wonderfull! I love it! Video's that contain practice helps people learn the major scales! I gave your video a thumps up and downloaded it and saved it! It's helping me learn the major scales! Thanks for the video!
Nice tutorial mate! I found out if you wanna know the scale you just gotta skip a key 2 times, then dont skip a key and then skip a key 3 times. For example you begin on E, you skip the F, press Fsharp, skip G, press Gsharp, then dont skip a key and press A then again skip Asharp, press B, skip C press Csharp, skip D press Dsharp and you got the Emajor scale :D This works at least for every Major Scale, sorry i didnt know how to explain it in a simpler way
Mate, your videos are under appreciated for the quality of contents you put. Hope you get popular. And thanks a lot for your time and effort to make these tutorials. Cheers.
Very helpful. When you said sharpen the 7th note of the previous scale.. It instantly clicked! Also when you go to Gb/F# to Db (still clockwise) it follows the same concept.
There is a stepwise formula to all major scales. Root note (the 1)- F# for example whole step (2nd) - G# whole step (3rd) - A# half step (4th) - B nat. Whole step (5th)- C# Whole step (6th) D# Whole step (7th) F nat. Half step (root)F# In other words, the fourth is a half step up from the third and the seventh is half a step down from the root note. Try leaving out the fourth and the seventh on any scale and youve just played a pentatonic. (All black keys starting with F# or C#) Pentatonic scales sound very nice and are a great way to get a feel for all the scales
Compared to IP addressing tables, this is practically intuitive. Maybe I needed to train my brain in other subjects before learning music theory, but I sort of regret not taking a look at this sooner. Sure, I can sing and follow sheet music but this is more.
Really great video! I love that you not only show the fingerings, the keyboard, but also the staff for those interested in learning that part of it in the early stages. For the A maj scale, it looks like your hand starts on A3 but the notation shows A4 as the starting place. Shouldn't the root note have been lower on the staff? Thanks again for the vid! Liked and subscribed.
Piano Nakata it would stay sharp. The key(the left of the sheet music staff) has either sharps or flats. If it have flats you play those flats unless there is a natural sign. To end this it would stay the same sharp up and down, flat up and down.
I found you through the suggested videos. First, your videos are very funny and informative. I just made a UA-cam channel about the song writing, so l ‘m definitely doing my research. Thanks for all your help. Please keep it up! Just subbed!
mindblowing, even my tiny brain can comprehend 😭. I am not sure but what I understand is we need to go back counterclockwise one step, then 5 step clockwise to get what the flats or sharps are. Edit: is it correct that.... Major scale: 1CCW - 5CW - Minor scale: 2CW - 4CCW?
great content keep going ... do you have videos about song writing & accompaniment writing. I'm starting my singing career & interested to have some lessons from your point of view if possible :) thanks a lot Bless
Now that I am retired I am picking up the piano and Tenor Sax after a 30-year layoff. I have been pleasantly surprised that it is coming back as fast as it is. Thank you for some excellent videos.
Damn. Just now I see the pattern of how flats and sharps are added to the scale. It's so easy: for sharps just start with first of three black keys, then first of two keys, then second of three and so on... And, almost magically, it's always the key right before the tonic! For flats you do the same, but in the opposite direction. OOMMGG!!!
Piano beginner here. Does this mean if I play a song in C everytime I play let's say the C note I have to play it with my thumb? Because of proper fingering and major scales rules??? Someone please answer.
It is posible to do this same technique but applied in minor escales? Iam saying because this technique had been the definitive one to learn Major scales by memory! You are amazing, thank you for your knowledge!
Around or a little after 9:05 you say F flat although the keyboard is saying B flat.. Same thing happens on the next scale around 9:40 you say C flat but its showing a B. Is that just an error or am I missing something? I'm definitely a beginner and probably confused. Maybe moving up a half step makes it a sharp of the lower note and moving down a half step makes it a flat of the higher note? Could you clear this up for me? Otherwise great tutorials. I am digging the channel overall, I just feel lost sometimes.. I might need to start at a lower level tutorial, work myself up to scales.
When I say Fb at 9:05 that was a mistake! I meant to say Bb. The second time at 9:40 is not a mistake, I say Cb but the midi keyboard says B. These 2 notes are exactly the same, but for technical reasons, we say Cb when in the key of Gb major, the midi keyboard just showed the wrong thing. You are correct in the moving a note up a half step makes it a sharp, and moving it a half step down makes it a flat. Hope this helps :)
This video helped a lot. I used to think that a lead could be independent from the chord lol (BTW I don't really know what I'm talking about, so correct me if I'm wrong)
C Major: 1:19
G Major: 2:04
D Major: 2:35
A Major: 3:30
E Major: 4:09
B Major: 4:44
F# Major: 5:34
F Major: 6:44
Bb Major: 7:30
Eb Major: 7:59
Ab Major: 8:34
Db Major: 9:10
Gb Major: 9:47
Thanks
Is this the suggested order to learn them in?
@@youmadbro7733 yeah because you can work them out by using the circle of fifths
You rock
Didn't he start by saying there are 12 major scales? Yet I count 13 major scales here,...why?

Thank you for being clear and consistent in your teaching.Thankfully we can rewind and pause til we get it right

The most understandable piano tutorials I've encountered. The use of top down in addition to the top tier that highlights the keys is superb. Thanks!

How many Major Scales were there? Wasn't it 24?
Angelo Roxas
I think it’s 88
@@christinamorris5742 Oh it's 1.

There is a stepwise formula to all major scales.
Root note (the 1)- F# for example
whole step (2nd) - G#
whole step (3rd) - A#
half step (4th) - B nat.
Whole step (5th)- C#
Whole step (6th) D#
Whole step (7th) F nat.
Half step (root)F#
In other words, the fourth is a half step up from the third and the seventh is half a step down from the root note.
Try leaving out the fourth and the seventh on any scale and youve just played a pentatonic.
(All black keys starting with F# or C#) Pentatonic scales sound very nice and are a great way to get a feel for all the scales
9:06 The 5 flats for Db scale are Db, Eb, Gb, Ab, and Bb.
OMG got it. Now I understand the major scales :-)
I finally got it today! I am able to play major scales and I proud of myself.
Compared to IP addressing tables, this is practically intuitive. Maybe I needed to train my brain in other subjects before learning music theory, but I sort of regret not taking a look at this sooner. Sure, I can sing and follow sheet music but this is more.

Piano Nakata it would stay sharp. The key(the left of the sheet music staff) has either sharps or flats. If it have flats you play those flats unless there is a natural sign. To end this it would stay the same sharp up and down, flat up and down.

after Gb/F# why did you go back to the top and start down again? Why not just continue around the circle?
How to use the circle of fifths to find *which* notes are accidentals? "Previous anti-clock back to F"?
Didn’t understand How you’re moving around the circle or why/when u sharpen the new scale ?
Anyone know how many levels are in a major scale ?
