- There's a new BBQ Pitmaster here in California that'll go toe to toe with Texas' great, and his name is Daniel Castillo. As we've mentioned in this video, we've been to Austin, Texas, for some amazing barbecue from Franklin and Terry Black's. But, how will Heritage stack up to them?

You guys are something good for food "splaining." I have learned so much about other people's food! My best wishes.
Since I grew up in the Lowcountry of South Carolina and have eaten some of the BEST BBQ my entire life I love sampling BBQ from other areas of the country! White Oak is what the hog should be cooked on NO GAS! At Christmas my family cooked a whole hog-vinegar/black pepper sauce! Always PORK NO BEEF!
When you panned in on the platter of meat... Wow 🥩🍖 😋 If the quality is as good as you say it's a definite must try.
Oh girl, when you broke. out the containers, I was like "that's my girl!!!!", way to get down family!! I'm going to have to take a ride up to the mission!! I saw the line as you all opened up the place....so I think I'll go there first and walk it off at the mission. Wow, it looks so delicious. I think I'll check it out and bring my containers as well😊. When you guys just close your eyes and like… drop your hands and sort of “take a step back” like there’s this pause after you first taste something with a “drop it like it’s hot” gesture.. I know it’s the best you ever had!
I always let out a BIG laugh when this happens. Lisa did it after the char siu..Bill normally does this more often tho. Funny stuff!

I used to eat there twice a week. Cedar Creek Inn is right around the corner, and L'Hirondelle is a few doors down. Trevors on the Track has the music, and Bueno Bueno is right across the street from them.
My husband and I went here yesterday after spending two weeks going to 5 BBQ places and this was our top so far. My husband got the pulled pork sandwich it was huge and I got the brisket sandwich. We live in rancho Cucamonga (inland empire) and would go back in a heartbeat. They also have a mustered based BBQ sauce that is delicious with the pulled pork. Definitely recommend!

I worked with Danny for over 6 years at Whole Foods and he was such a joy to work with. He’s a genius and a true craftsman with food and flavor profiles. Also fun fact, many working at Heritage used to work all together at Whole Foods back in the day.

I cooked a first ribs on my Weber Q etc...just a basic one? FANTASTIC!!! Could eat BBQ every day i was a royal and it was prepared for me.

OH MY GOSH! Every single thing you both had, looked AH-MAZING!! I watched this video with my hubby, and he was ready to go tomorrow! I told him ‘nope, closed Mon/Tues.’. Hello Bill and Lisa, we were just there yesterday 11/6 celebrating our wedding anniversary. Food is absolutely delicious. We didn't order the pulled pork or chicken, but just about everything else you chose. Potato salad is also yummy. We waited in line about 50 minutes, but didn't mind. Again, the food was worth the price. It was a great experience.

Love Heritage! Our favorite bbq restaurant. My wife and I had that a year ago the day after we got married to celebrate! Amazing coincidence you guys post this exactly a year later. You may want to try Smo King Ribs in Garden Grove.....I think it's very good!
I've been to The SmoKING Ribs a couple times and they always hit the spot, especially if I'm craving smoked beef ribs on a weekday. I will say it seems as tho they boil the brisket before smoking it because it's tender but always missing that proper thick smoke ring pink color and flavor. I cant blame them for being efficient, but it's not the same as a low n slow method using offset smokers like Heritage BBQ!
I use to get to visit Texas a few times a year. It's been years since I been there.... I miss their Mexican food and their BBQ!! Tx bbq is the best I've ever had. Here in Wa state our bbq places dont even compare at all! This cali place looked amazing though!

Hi Bill and Lisa! At work tonight I was craving a McRib sandwich from McDonald’s…forgot about those cravings now after watching this episode. Well we know the BBQ is good if Bill dipped and got some extra sauce on the meat!😊Wow! The owner really knows his way around the BBQ, usually a place will have 1 or 2 signature cuts but to have everything on the menu be a star is spectacular!!! 😅Forget the rainy weather here, it’s only a little over an hour away from me…😂🎉…I’m half through the video…will Bill and Lisa order the bread pudding? I cheated and reviewed the menu before watching vid…thanks for sharing! Very happy you had some great BBQ!!!! Take care!

Pork ribs are better! We don’t use dry rub but I like it! Memphis, TN has the best dry rub! But what y’all are eating looks good!

I’ve been dying for some good barbecue especially brisket. That looks so good with that smoke ring. It’s so far away though. 😢I wish I could find a decent barbecue place in LA. In the early 80s they used to have them. Thank you for showing me this place maybe I’ll get there one day soon. It all looked amazing. 😋

The char siu looked amazing. Love real BBQ but not the prices. It's a very rare treat. I would stick with pork or brisket as I'm not a fan of smoked poultry.
Agreed that often the brisket has too much pepper. I've given up ordering it.
