- Staff and volunteers at Custer State Park roundup the Park's large buffalo herd every September. It needs to be done so that the animals can be tested and immunized. A public auction of a few buffalo helps keep the herd at a manageable size. Left alone, the herd would overgraze the park's available habitat.
The event generally draws between 15 and 20-thousand spectators.

Simply awesome! Thank you for the video. A friend and I visited Custer State Park the day prior to the roundup. We wanted so much to stay, but had to head to the Crow Reservation in Montana. Kristi Noem is an awesome governor. I love her to death.

@@brandyjan14 Just curious. I'm from there, and am moving back myself. That's all.
@@stanstenson8168 I didn't mean to sound rude, but I've run into New Yorkers online that don't wish me well when I say I'm moving. I have very elderly family that I can't leave behind or take with me, so I go back and forth driving 3 days each way. I have wonderful neighbors in rural SD that treat me like family, and it gets harder and harder to leave each time. Where are you moving from?
