I finally found a .410 AR 15 upper that actually works fairly well from Bear Creek Arsenal. This ammo ran 100% through it and was impressively accurate at 15 yards through an improved modified choke.
What an incredibly effective self defense load for the home. No one could absorb all that damage and continue to be a threat. What a great examination of self defensive ammunition.🤔
12 gauge is the choice for bear defense and if one can easily handle it, great. However, having weapon that one can use easily and quickly is more important than eliminating the possibility of an open casket funeral.
I don't care what all the 410 haters for HD say, i.e. "Not powerful enough." I'll tell you what, that shot flying into a bad guys body will cause an intruder to stop, and guess what? There's another coming right behind it after the first shot. They're light weight, low recoil and devastating. Don't think twice about it, buy the right shells and you have a fine home defense weapon!
The Federal 000 personal defense is very effective in the S&W Governor..very manageable recoil and the the buckshot stays together like The Blue Angels out to 20 feet..
Buffalo, you have one of the tightest channels on UA-cam. Your video and audio quality are top notch, as are your knowledge of, and ability to use firearms. The fact that you are not "flashy" and don't "blow stuff up" for subs is admirable. Too bad it's not more profitable. You should have millions of subs, as you are so much better than many channels that do. Thanks for all of the excellent information and entertainment!
I've always loved the 410. With a full choke, they can take squirrel and grouse from pretty impressive distances. With modern tech, they can be used as turkey guns and HD guns. A single shot 410 weighs nothing and you can carry a lot more shells than the larger gauges. Only dang problem with the 410 is ammo availability.
And price! Yikes it's expensive. Honestly I don't see 20 GA as much as I used to either. 12 seems plentiful right now though. Slugs and such can be a little harder to get though.
Haha. You don't even know about .410 availability problems until you live near an Alaskan fishing town😆 it's used to finish off halibut and a few other large maritime critters here. Versatile round, fer sure
i've used one for yrs. for squirrel hunting..that or a 28 ga. both great little guns for for both bird and small game...i try to keep to #5 shot and 3 in. mag and full choke it's never failed to do it's part as long as i done mine...and as for the 28ga....well thats another story..sweet little gun
That works out to 173 ft-lbf for each pellet. Not unlike getting hit by five rounds of .380 basically all at once. Really my point is just to post to show support and say many thanks. You never disappoint! 👍🙂
Roll that glorious drive-thru footage.😉 The five yard group shows how even shotguns need to be aimed for 'inside the house' distances. Not much room for error, even with a scattergun. They would certainly put the hurt on an invader.
Impressive how it spread apart so quickly upon impact. That's a horrible wound. People think .410 is weak, but a shot like that to the chest is gonna drop you just like a 12 gauge.
The ammo did good in the gel. When I was a kid I knew a family that the dad made his son’s 410 buck shot rounds for deer hunting. He took 12 gauge buck shot and put it in 410 bird shot. Thanks for the video.
@@koreya1161 yes, based on weight, they are closer to .32 ACP, about 70grains...but, as far as diameter and energy? Nearly the same as 380ACP. .355" and about 180 energy...and, momentum would also be more than 5 X .32 auto, as the velocity is almost 1100 fps...same weight, but, MUCH faster velocity...in all considerations that matter, these shells are very similar to 5 X .380 ACP, standard pressure FMJ.
Great content, I sleep with an eighteen inch barreled .410 next to my bed as the FIRST LINE of home defense. Other are nearby if 5 shots fail. I feel better after seeing this video. Thank you!

It would be interesting to paint the pellets different colors, reload them in the shell and be able to know where they were in the stack when fired. Could produce interesting results.

Great info! Shows a .410 is a very good home defense option. Security guards in Venezuela carried single shot .410 pistols. Kinda like mule legs. The 1 in the chamber was rock salt. Then, their cartridge holder on the stock had 1st with bird shot, 2nd, #4 shot, 3rd was this 5 shot buckshot and 4th was a slug.

Seriously though, you and the Taofledermaus crew are my 2 favorites because you guys are honest, straightforward folks with videos that aren't filled with a lot of "fast moving, silly, or supposedly high production value" fluff and garbage. Like a peanut butter cup with the chocolate thrown in the garbage, you have just the good stuff!!
I bought a1 18 inch barrel Mossberg 510 in 410 bore for my wife. We shot some of this at 20 yards into a 10 inch pumpkin. It made pumpkin pie on the first round. By four rounds there was no longer a target.
That will get them out of your Livingroom. I don't know if I would pick the 4:10 over a 12 or 20 ga but it sure works. Nice job on the testing, love that clear gel.

WOW what a HD gun! Lol...I put down my bolt rifles due to my 70's marlin 30/30 lever being too much fun not to use ("too perfect" in every other way, too) May have to look up your wife's HD for all the same reasons!
Older couple here, and both of us have the Mossberg 500 preditor short and bought a bunch of shells before things went wacko (2018) .. Brenneke, Ultimate, Triple , Sebot, and we can handle the 410 quite nice..
It's like one of those little click-clack doodads that people keep on their desks; each one of the pellets gave some of their energy to the one in front of it, and that's how the first pellet in line got boosted to penetrate so much deeper than the others
Compared to your .410 slug video, this buck actually penetrated deeper than the breneke slug with 1 ball. The rest did virtually as good as the slug! 5 holes vs 1. This would be good for pigs! Thats propper impressive
I load some.360, 71gr, 000 buck for 410 & 12 from a little Lee two cavity mould I have. Them little things are brutal. Love em. It takes a while casting all those pellets from a two cavity mould but they're well worth it. The 12ga loads take some finessing to fit & some wadd modification is needed on my part for both loads, it's nothing too difficult to figure out though. Love some 000 buck. We have an old bolt action .410. It has been the "common use" gun in the family since before my mom was born. Just last year, my cousin took a respectable buck with it. My grandmother's brother said that he has personally seen that gun put more meat on the table than any other. He was a hunting guide for several years, on top of being a lifelong hunter. Almost everyone in the family took their first something with it. Birds, squirrels, rabbits, deer, and even turkeys. Ammo is hard to find, but i buy a box whenever i see it somewhere.

Great video. Short, simple, sweet, and informative. .410 is a wonderful caliber, grew up learning to hunt with a single-shot. One of my funnest little guns is a .410 semi-auto bullpup. It's proven deadnuts reliable and more than that, it satisfies the smoke and noise craving as well. It runs fast and incredibly simple to keep on target no matter how fast you run it.

The 410 shotgun is vastly underestimated for its size. It will do anything larger shotshells can do if used within its shorter designed range. Whatever gets hit with that shot load is going to have a bad day.🦬

This was pretty edifying to see demonstrated so clearly. Thank you for you efforts. I used a single shot Baikal .410 to train my sons and my daughter to shoot trap with. It is a really good way to introduce children to the greatest shooting sport that exists without frightening them, thereby spoiling their enjoyment of the great pastime. I do own a Bond Snake Slayer so naturally I would be interested to compare them to each other. I carry each for different purposes but you know these tests are all fascinating to me.
Where I live there hasn't been any .410 shells in so long one store owner said they weren't sure if they were even still being loaded. Glad they sent you a box.

Winchester did a lot of research on adding “buffering” grains to shotshells, and it works to reduce the flattening effect on the pellets, and tightens spread at a distance.
Great video. One of my favorite grouse getters is a 410/22 double badger. I always carry a couple 000 buck just for fun. Interesting to see the deformation of the pellets.
I like the spreading of the shot in the target. I'll bet the flattened lead balls caused that. Thank the new .410 revolvers for this type of ammo. Now that old beater .410 is a good defensive piece!

That's one mean lil load. The 410 is underutilized. Definitely good home defense round.

To me, clear gel is the gold standard. If the gel is green or worst, shaped like a gummy bear, I just pass on the video and disregard what they say.😤

I do own a Bond Snake Slayer so naturally I would be interested to compare them to each other. I carry each for different purposes but you know these tests are all fascinating to me.
Where I live there hasn't been any .410 shells in so long one store owner said they weren't sure if they were even still being loaded. Glad they sent you a box.
Fantastic results. Thanks for showing the construction and pellet deformation. I bet the manufacturer could improve performance by watching your video. Maybe a shaped plastic spacer between each pellet. Pruno
Winchester did a lot of research on adding “buffering” grains to shotshells, and it works to reduce the flattening effect on the pellets, and tightens spread at a distance.

Great video. One of my favorite grouse getters is a 410/22 double badger. I always carry a couple 000 buck just for fun. Interesting to see the deformation of the pellets.
I have the same gun and combo, great little walk around rifle.
I like the spreading of the shot in the target. I'll bet the flattened lead balls caused that. Thank the new .410 revolvers for this type of ammo. Now that old beater .410 is a good defensive piece!

Well, that was impressive! Never thought about a 410 with buck shot. Judging by the penetration of the jell this looks like the bad guy is done for.
