I just watched it, and I'm still none the wiser! It's pretty much exactly the way David Brent portrayed it - kudos to his impersonation skills. I just can't understand what the basic joke or point of the sketch was, other than literally someone walking strangely to a drum beat!
But not appropriate in a company training video! ...but it does show what a charmed life you have if employed by Microsoft, it’s all bean bags, buffets, games rooms and hi budget afternoons watching this.
Christ... I remember almost suffocating from laughter the first time I saw Ricky's Max Wall impression. And Steve's FACE when he realises he has to endure it again! Just priceless.
6:05 Did he think he said "wank-a-thon?" And David Brent is a master impressionist. He has all the classics: Basil Fawlty, Max Wall, Eric Hitchmough. Timeless stuff.
'I don't agree with that in the workplace' oh come on ...... Who went to the Coventry conference? ....... It's Eric Hitchmo! ....... He sounds exactly like that! ....... FFS!
I thought I had seen the best of Ricky through the years on The Office, all of the follow on shows etc. But the bit with the Max Wall piece, and I don't even know who Max Wall is haha. FFS I'm cracking up.
It's actually such a crazy blessing that these exist! With how specifically limited The Office was, it's hard to believe there's over half an hour of Ricky and Steve making a pseudo-bonus episode of the show. This was also drastically funnier than the movie!
David Brent is like true Buddha, while all the other characters are sad humans trapped in the modern world. That's why they don't understand him. I think David is the only one truly happy and brave enough to call out the obserdity of society, genious.
It's funny how .. this is actually how Ricky acts around Steve anyway.. there's not much of a change xD and god that Max Wall impression was gold x'D!!
i know it would be a bad idea to carry on the office in the same enviroment but it would be so good if merchant and gervais could make a couple more specials along the same lines as this, following Mr. D Brent ("thats me") around in his time after the office.
Ricky's ability to recount or reference pretty fucking random / niche comic moments such as the Max Wall moment, is second to none and show's he really is a comedic historian.
"The guidelines to living your life according to Bill Gates, baby....it's all up here, in this little computer, Mr Gates"......lol...brilliant...I'd work for David Brent anyday.
Yes,seriously John. I do not jest. Admittedly it was a while ago now...'77 as I recall but I was with my Parents at a Warners Holiday Camp in Hayling Island and this Guy called John was on the next breakfast table to ours....for the life of me I can not remember his surname though.......
@@Isleofskye That's a remarkable story all the more interesting given the fact that I attended a holiday camp in Great Yarmouth with my parents in the late 70s. Obviously I was too young to be the guy next to your breakfast table, but a fascinating story none the less. How long do you think his surname stayed with you?
Thanks John. That was a riveting read and I look forward to hearing more of the same. I think I have to have a reality check though (unlike Harry Rednapp who has just received a huge Reality Cheque for agreeing to go into "I'm A Celebrity" ) but I digress.....I was about to say that given that there there are, at least, 28 Surnames in our Green and Pleasant Land that means there is only a 3.57% chance that his Surname was Smith in the first place , though again we have the additional co-incidence of him being a Male ! It's actually getting quite spooky but I believe his surname stayed with me until a Policeman escorted me from the terraces at Carlisle United in the early 1980's for using foul and abusive language when supporting my ( then ) local team Millwall Football And Athletic Club and, quite frankly, that horrendous incident and the disgrace it brought to my family name of Jones has had a traumatic effect on my subsequent existence and most things have been a blur since :(......
well to be fair this was done around the office time and is not an advert. Not forgetting this is completely taking the piss out of Microsoft and the corporate world: Nerds, Capitalists & management jargon alike.
No not really,David Brent was a fully formed character Gervais had thought of(then just called "Seedy Boss") he then met Merchant at XFM they made a demo sent it to the bbc and the rest is History! But Gervais had thought of him before he even met Steve
BEST BIT: ricky:...the day would go on & on stephen: today feels like it is ricky: good that means your packing in stephen: i feel like packing it in at the moment THEN JUST WATCH HIS FACE! lol X
How those lads didn't corpse during the Max Wall bit is beyond me. One of funniest Brent moments ever.
Chances are they _did_ corpse a lot.
I laughed so hard I had a coughing fit
They did, there’s outtakes from that scene floating around
“If your an engineer at Microsoft, a night away from your mum and Nan”😂
I love how Steve almost laughs during several bits of this but manages to disguise them as annoyed smirks.
Max Walls my name - this is fricking hilarious, belly laughs all round - brilliant just brilliant
Especially when you see the real Max Wall walk bit! 😂
"Merton" - I don't know why I find that so funny!!
David's face after Steve says "I feel like packing it in at the moment" is absolutely priceless.
When he ripped up the guidelines and they had to cellotape it back together, had in my fits of laughter. :')
Id never heard of Max Wall until this sketch, its worth watching his walk on youtube for context though lol.
I just watched it, and I'm still none the wiser! It's pretty much exactly the way David Brent portrayed it - kudos to his impersonation skills. I just can't understand what the basic joke or point of the sketch was, other than literally someone walking strangely to a drum beat!
I dont know who Max Wall is, but his impression was great
Aw man...I miss these two working together. Comedy gold!
"its easier to find a job when u have a job"
thats actually true
Recruiters abhor a vacuum
Probably wondering why he’s so generous with good advice....
Not the part about slagging off your main job though
But not appropriate in a company training video! ...but it does show what a charmed life you have if employed by Microsoft, it’s all bean bags, buffets, games rooms and hi budget afternoons watching this.
Certainly is. Think it's a joke.

David's Max Wall impression is the funniest thing I've seen all year.

Eggs is eggs almost definitely
Only Me!
I don’t agree with that in the workplace
I prefer the stuff you do with the withered hand
And Columbo. "My wife's a big fan of yours. Just one more thing... I don't agree with that in the workplace..."
i feel like a good wine! "bloody weather!"
lolz!
WHAT YOU WANNA KNOW JOE

It's that bloke from The Office Christmas special, when they're in the fruit and veg shop.
+Daniel S "are you feeling cold David?"
Angelos Epithemiou
Fat one off of airport?
@@taotoo2 definitely not
His name's Dan Renton Skinner. He plays the character Angelos Epithemeou as p4cks mentions.
How did Steve keep a straight face when Gervais was doing the glasses window screen wipers?? Multiple takes? I think so...
I think so too!
almost spat out my drink when he did that guinea pig noise
Junkie
The day would have to go on and on.
Today feels like it is.
Max wall. I can't stop laughing at his noise
That's a damn good impression of Max Wall.
Both of them are so funny in this, could make a full series of this, just hilarious 😂
"I feel like packing it in at the moment"... *cue smile followed by puzzled Brent face*
The cut to them taping the paper back together is ridiculously good
04:15 "Its all up there... in this little computer mr.gates" LOOOOOOOLLL GGEENNIIIUUUSS!!!!!
That Max Wall bit is just as funny as the comic relief dance!
i like a good wine. "bloody weather"
"That would make you a sort of Christ-like figure.." Brent's face after that hahah, he actually took it as a compliment :D
He has absolutely no self-awareness.
"Ooh, the guidelines on how to live your life according to Bill Gates baby" *rip* *rip* 😂😂😂
That might just be the funniest thing they ever did, the acting and the delivery is just perfect with all the mannerisms 😁
Max Wall bit is my favorite David Brent moment
The first two were good but it seemed to all come together here. Absolutely hilarious, just like a new (and long awaited) new episode of the office.
"I was just showing..."
"showing yourself up?"
"Can I quote you on that?"
"Definitely not"
Love the way Steve delivers that line
Max Wall's the name
Merton!
"Would make you a christ like figure!" - "Can i quote you on that?" - "Definitely not" lolol
I see now why Karl would do a double take seeing Ricky and Steve side by side 😂
I thought I had seen the best of Ricky through the years on The Office, all of the follow on shows etc. But the bit with the Max Wall piece, and I don't even know who Max Wall is haha. FFS I'm cracking up.

To be fair, Max Wall was also shit.. That was some nursery level humour..
geezus .. this comment made me laugh, haha brilliant
Steve is so good in this,so stoic."I feel I'm aging". Ha.,

"Definitely not... Definitely not"
God it mustve taken so many takes to for ricky to do that impression without cracking up.
The last act of this is amazing - it's like a 'Fingers on the Buzzers Round' for Brent's douchebaggery.
I love Ricky's face at 9.39, brilliant!
I swear he was about to crack up but saved it at the end 🤣
he mentions Buffy and Star Trek DS9, automatic thumbs up

Ricky playing Brent is basically him playing himself. Ricky Gervais = David Brent + self-awareness

Sir David Earl of Brentshire
