I'm planning to make some follow-up videos answering your questions about this trip, so if you're wondering about gear, filming, food, navigation, trip planning, etc., please leave a comment on any of the videos (I've posted daily vlogs from the trip as well)!
You, my friend, are one amazing adventurer. I have visited Vancouver Island a few times myself and fell in love with the place. Watching your videos really makes me want to see that place again. Thanks for posting this.
Hello, that is one of the best videos i`ve ever seen on youtube. What an adventure, what a great nature! WOW.... Thank you to took us with you. Best regards Stephan
This is one of my favorite documentaries. I purchased a packraft as a result. Thanks for the inspiration to trail blaze and get creative with one's journey.
I can't stop watching it. I really love and admire your adventures. You put everything _the beauty of the island, your effort, hard work, every corner of wild life! Amazing!!! I can't express my cheers with any words!
A stunning film! Excellent camera work and what an advert for a packraft! I admire your courage and bravery to be there amongst the bears! I thoroughly enjoyed this thank you. Greetings from Ireland, Adrian
Amazing accomplishment Matt, awesome video as well, thanks for sharing, and thanks again for the DIY packraft, almost about to complete the assembly of mine
Fantastic, I am delighted, such beauty, and the amazing work of the operator, I have not seen anything like this, I wanted to know from you, what camera did you shoot everything with?
That looks like true exploration! I just got my first packraft and I’ll be on the island in May, I was curious what resources you used to plan out your trip. Also are you using a hammock, tent or tarp?
What a great adventure. Respect! Three questions: 1) how did your selfie-stick not show up? 2) What camera did you use and 3) where did you get your food?
Incredible video vlog! Thank you so much for all your hard work in shooting and editing this masterpiece! Quick question, I noticed that your packraft did not have TZip and you carried all your gear on bow. Would you consider making one with cargo fly to store gear or it isn’t necessary?... I’m planning a 5 day excursion up in Yukon this summer and still trying to decide on whether I should get one with t-zip. Thank you!
Thanks!! I have a pretty light and compact setup, and I switch back and forth from land to water a lot, so a zipper isn’t really necessary for me and it would just slow me down. Your needs might be different though.
That's quite an adventure. Was there no way to avoid so much bushwacking? I find bushwacking gets to be such a slog, it takes the fun out of adventuring.
Most of it was unplanned - I had to deviate from my intended route several times due to private property, active logging operations, or very strong headwinds. It was pretty discouraging at times... Type 2 fun at best.
Truly fabulous videography! Brings back great memories of Vancouver Island backpacking trips. Does it still look like you’ll be getting the material in this month? Really excited to embark on my own Skeena.
The movie and individual episodes are still magical even years later. Thank you very much!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed them :)
This is a true piece of art! OMG I should share this with my Korean friends and hikers. More people should watch this!
Thank you for the very kind words!
Hi! really nice way to get into the wild nature. Thank you for your nice video from Korea

That was about the best tracking / wilderness account I have seen. Awesome. Well done. You would love Tasmania I’m sure.
Thanks! Yes, Tasmania is on the list :D

An amazing movie turned out! The route itself, nature., Filming is a separate song! The global work has been done. Bravo!!!
Thank you!

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing it :)
Thanks!
Wow~ it's really nice to meet your channel! So beautiful and nice videos of yours!!! I really enjoyed them:)
Fantastic, I am delighted, such beauty, and the amazing work of the operator, I have not seen anything like this, I wanted to know from you, what camera did you shoot everything with?
Thank you! I used a Sony RX100vii, an iPhone 11 Pro, and an Insta360 One R. There is a link to my full gear list in the video description.
i was wondering how you did your pans while paddling, 360 cam make sense. Great montage
Thanks! Yeah, it’s a pretty cool camera when it works :)
That looks like true exploration! I just got my first packraft and I’ll be on the island in May, I was curious what resources you used to plan out your trip. Also are you using a hammock, tent or tarp?
Thanks for watching! I used the Backroads Map Book and the Gaia GPS website. A hammock would work great because there’s no shortage of trees.
The shot at 2:40 ... How is the camera mounted to the boat? I understand that is it a 360 view camera but, I am confused to how it is mounted.
It’s on the end of my trekking pole, which is hidden in the camera’s stitch line.
What a great adventure. Respect! Three questions: 1) how did your selfie-stick not show up? 2) What camera did you use and 3) where did you get your food?
Thanks! It’s hidden in the 360 camera’s stitch line.
Before the trip I buried food along my route.
Could you make a video about your life jacket?
Unfortunately I can’t, for liability reasons.
I have a question : what is the use of the pointed shape behind the packraft? Is it for directional stability?
Yes, directional stability and fore-aft balance.

@@DIYPackraft makes sense thanks for the reply!
I think that is what it means to be alive!
beautiful it really makes me want to try packraft.what camera did you use?
Thanks! I used an iPhone, a Sony RX100vii, and an Insta360 One R.

so epic
How many km did you paddle? And I take it it's the Skeena? What length?
Yep, a Skeena, 120 cm (47”) size. It was 250 km (155 miles) of paddling.
Truly fabulous videography! Brings back great memories of Vancouver Island backpacking trips.
Does it still look like you’ll be getting the material in this month? Really excited to embark on my own Skeena.
Thanks!
I’m going to say early February to be on the safe side... barring further delays!
epic!
А что летало и снимало?
I use a 360-degree action camera on an “invisible” selfie stick. You can see the shadow in some shots.
@@DIYPackraft Спасибо, я не знал о таком

If that’s what you like, there’s a whole series of daily videos from this trip on my channel.
