    French Baroque music is sooo sensuous ! This video suggests to me that there has always been a thread of Romantiscm in music even before the 19th cent.

      Indeed you are right - the Affetti and the musical appeal to feelings were present from Monteverdi’s Second Practice. I once traced this all the way through the Songs to St Cecilia written and performed from the late C17th through the C18th in England. “Sound and Sense in English Poetry and Music from 1683 to 1750” (I think those were the dates). What held good for English music (or rather music written to English texts) held good for other languages and nations.
