If you don’t fully understand Hanahaki a person who has unrequited love will get hanahaki. You can either get it removed surgically but the person will forget about the person they love or can be cured if the person they love ends up falling in love with them as well or the person will die from it if it’s not delt with fast enough :) it starts with the person coughing up petals then from there they will cough up more and more petals then they will end up coughing full on flowers then eventually as well as the flowers the person will cough up blood which isn’t a a good sign as that means the hanahaki is getting worse and person may be dying soon. Ok so for people who dont know Hanahaki is a sickness of onesided love Now it works here is that Deku loves Bakugou but Bakugou doesn’t like Deku back so he ends up coughing flowers, usually it gradually gets worse, first some petals then more petals then petals with blood to full on flowers There are only 3 ways to get rid of the sickness First: get surgery but if the surgery is received all the memories and feelings torwads the loved person who in this case is Bakugou is be lost and removed permanently along with the flowers or the person but like all surgerys they wont always be successful but they usually are unless the author wants it to be angsty so.. Second: Deku loses his feelings for Bakugou ( which we know is not gonna happen ) Third: Bakugou reciprocates Deku’s love for him and it needs to be genuine love otherwise it wont work If non if these are done in time Deku would inevitably suffocate to death because Hanahaki are flowers that grow in one’s lungs due to love that is not returned and it often worsens over time, the harder Deku loves Bakugou the worse it gets and the flowers grow in his lungs making hard to breathe and since surgery would remove 16 years of friendship Deku wont do that so either Deku dies or Bakugou returns his love with genuine love
