I like to hear a little bit of talking. It gives us insight into your thought process and how you plan builds. But it's your channel - do what you enjoy, and I'm sure the rest of us will enjoy it, too.
Hi Brennan. Thanks for your comment, it is very much appreciated. Hope the new format goes well. More films coming this week. Best wishes Mike and Oliver
I enjoy hearing your thoughts and banter with your helper - but it's your channel , you do what's comfortable . I 'm gonna try your sanding block process next time i joint a blank.
Hi Phil. It was a great pleasure to talk to you today. Many thanks for your comment, it is very much appreciated. All the best with your own guitar builds. Best wishes Mike & Oliver
Glad you like it. its was a fun build. No plans for this guitar build. Body shape came from the bottom half of my Les Paul and top half of my Stratocaster, pulled the two drawings together till it look right, and its spot on. Every thing else came from photographs. And the head template. Neck joint is the same as the Les Paul Special build, very easy to do. Any help just ask, more thank happy to help. you out. Many thanks for your comment. best wishes Mike.
Thank you for your reply @@mitarrguitars! I am building now 2 Les Paul guitars (one with P90 and another one with 2 Humbuckers) - both from LP '59 templates. These Les Pauls will have 4 degree neck angle, with the neck tenon being straight and the neck pocket on the guitar's body having the 4 degree inclination. I am also starting the build of a PRS Custom 22 (and this is why I arrived to your videos). I saw that these PRS have 3 degree neck angle and it seems that PRS makes the opposite as Gibson does - PRS uses a straight neck pocket and a 3 degree neck tenon. The end result will be the same but, just to be align with the "real deal", can you confirm this was what you have done in your build? And about the SD pickups: what is the model of the pickups you have used? Thank you very much!!
On Les Pauls we have the neck plane (4 degrees, the same as neck) and the pickups plane (0.55 degrees). On PRS Custom 22 guitar it seems to be 3 degrees from the neck pocket all over the way until it reaches the tremolo/bridge. Can you explain how did you proceed with this? Thank you!
Your right mine as a 2.5 to 3 degree angle on the neck. Neck pocket is straight, but to be honest you can do it the other way if you wish. Ange the pocket and straight neck. I was not 100% sure what the PRS angle is, but 3 degrees max is my favourite. Have a look at my neck angle jig video you will see more. No angle on the top of the body it flat and straight to the start of the body carve. Pickup are SH-4 JB at the bridge and SH-2n Jazz at the neck. Fabulous pickup set I use it a lot. Many thanks, Merry Christmas to you. Mike
