    I love artists who take a stand and do the music they believe in, rather than the whims of the market. Our ears are tired of cookie cutter music, but man how can we not love true American blues. Pokey and his band bring us, tired listeners, something fresh and endearing to listen to. Thanks,Pokey!

      AMEN.... After listening to his music, I couldn't be prouder to be from St. Louis and hear a representation of SO MUCH of our beloved St. Louis blues and jazz melded together with some bluegrass. This guy has zero boundaries...and I love it. Whatever he is selling I am buying. I will seek out his CD's and purchase every one of them.

    That Pokey guy not only plays great music, he is obviously a smart, articulate fellow that has a lot of interesting things to say regarding (blues) music and its history. As a Dutch person who regularly watched this program (which is generally a very high quality interesting program on all kinds of music) I am very dissapointed in the interviewer this time. Could have been even more interesting. Not his best day I am afraid.

      "Pokey guy"? Is it possible for you your country-folk to be polite?

    • @DutchPhlogiston
      @DutchPhlogiston 10 років тому +2

      Well, speaking on behalf of my entire country, that's generally not our strong suit I'm afraid. Some of us may have learned the art abroad, but not me, so far. However, I have nothing but compliments for Pokey though, and certainly wasn't intending to be impolite.

      Thank you for that affirmation. I can respect that. Your good will is appreciated.

      I think the interviewer was a big fan and was at a loss for words. I believe he was aware that Mr. LaFarge was an interesting person and was trying to just let him talk without over-powering the interview. It was just fine. I don't expect someone from another country to understand life in mid-west US. St. Louis is a special place and many of our own countrymen fail to realize this. I wish Pokey LaFarge the greatest of success. Love him bunches!

    It has become quite common in the Netherlands to be quite artistic and romantic in their way of interviewing people. Where artists would be asked "how did your home influence your music" ten years ago, Dutch interviewers seem to ask more often questions like "if I say water, what do you say?"

    Yes,that's because nowadays, interviews like this one - exemplary like no other - are more about the hosts themselves than they deal with the artist in question. It's quite unfortunate, because altogether different from mainstream commercial television, a show like Vrije Geluiden would be the perfect occasion to discuss music in-depth...I'm sure that would rather appeal to the respective interest group of viewers than scare them off..

    Pokey doesn't wait for a good interviewer to give a good interview. Maybe a language thing though in the guys defence.

    A little ignorant?! That guy evidently didn't do his homework. It's simply embarrassing that he doesn't ask any further, either about the musical traditions of the South or Pokey's self-conception as an artist indebted to the great old time music of the past.. Pity!

    Pokey is a wise and charming man, his music and band are the best, but man that breathing from the interviewer on the mic made this unbearable and his lack of intelligence on the questions is awful.

      Pokey's music and Mark Twain, there's not much more to know. Take a boat on the Mississippi, read the books, get the flavor of blues-jazz.
