In my own humble opinion, the best cellist ever, he makes the cello speak in a way that others can only dream of doing. I was so lucky to get to see him a couple of times. RIP M. Tortelier.
What makes this so different -- and interesting -- is that he plays the piece with style. It sounds slow when you first listen to it compared to how many play it today. But if you play it just a little bit slower than what we're used to (today) so much nuance and style comes out. He played with such style. The music actually has time to speak.
BRAVO, Monsieur Tortelier 👏 !!!

My Father put me onto Paul.
We used to watch his master classes on the BBC. Terrific player and teacher !!!
Many thanks for sharing this performance. Paul Tortelier, I wished he was still a live ! 👍🎶😀
The Great Maestro , in my heart forever ㅠㅠㅠ
I agree
Amazing how few views this has had.
Real shame this genius has passed the younger generation by 🤔
Mi Querido y Gran Maestro!!!!
Gran Ser
Gracias!!!!
Marvelous bow control
Saw him a few times in London and when I was living in Paris .
For a very long time, I hum this music unconsciously whatever I am doing, walking, washing the dishes, riding my bicycle, staring out of the window…
I so adore his passion for music. So emotional 😢 but I'm also happy to listen to this too
Oh my God,....gorgeous.
7:00 His facial expression after this harmonics insanity is just brilliant. He looks so relieved to have got this section over with!
magnificent. great performance I think. thx for uploading.
I wanna play that piece 😍😍😍
The master at work!
After searching for a better interpretation of this piece and failing to do so, I come back to Tortelier.
Same for Grieg Sonata too.
Look up Garry Karr playing it on double bass. Unreal. (Of course this is awesome as well)
😍😍Maravilloso
Merveilleux .
The best
Si amas el Chelo , entonces amas a Paul Tortelier . Grande maestro , bravo !!!

@@jaimerauno5549 podrías ser más específico sobre las fallas técnicas por favor
This is wonderful. Is there any other information available (date, venue, orchestra, conductor)?
💖
슬프면서 행복한 연주
Que bueno es
Shifting on his thumb like a boss at 2:36
His hands are so fast😶
👍👍
Que sonido logra ese cello con los graves...!
did you see how happy he was to get out of that whistling E?
😱👍🏻😶
I love the little mistakes and how he brings the thumb so easy in first position. Beautiful video!
