When i was like 14 I listened to this and wrote chick corea a letter telling him I’m going to be a jazz pianist when I grow up. Never got a reply haha but I’m a jazz pianist now. Surreal this track got me started Edit: Here’s something crazy! He did reply to me! I’m just dumb and forgot but I mentioned it to my mom and she was like “ oh yeah I have his letter in your keepsake box here and dug it out! “ crazy. And yeah luckily I am a professional pianist so hey it’s all good so far
Chick played this in such a way that you could feel a slight autumn breeze blowing across your face, ruffling the red and orange leaves in the trees, making them slowly one by one flutter to the ground. The sun is setting earlier and there will be frost when you wake in the morning.
How truly wonderful to be a child, hearing 'The Great Pumpkin Waltz' in 1966 and not even realizing that we were being exposed to a masterful jazz waltz! All we felt and heard was the joy of 'Schroeder'. Musical joy given to children is a gift that never dims.
I really love David Benoit's rendition too. It's just a beautiful song. It's got a sweet melancholy that just does something for the heart that's so magical. It is the music to a dream I haven't yet realized. But when I hear this song it makes the dream feel more tangible; like I can reach out and touch it. My dream hasn't yet come to fruition, but this song gives me hope.
This track. The rest of the album (IMO) was pretty cheesy, but this track was absolutely masterful. Straightaway from the first two chords, like leaves changing color. Absolutely brilliant performances from everyone on this, still after 30 years one of my favorite of Chick Corea's tunes and a must listen every October. It's like a distillation of Fall into a tune. Alright, now I'm getting cheesy. RIP Chick, you were truly one of the greats, and thank you for everything you gave us.
@Eric Fornaro The guy has it all. Chops tone and stellar technique. He's so melodic. Here's another one of his great solos: ua-cam.com/video/iVE6zyW2x-M/v-deo.html
@Eric Fornaro Underrated? Patitucci ? I don't think so. He's generally been seen as one of the jazz bass greats, so... And yeah, his solo on this track is wonderful. Way to squeeze those emotions out of that big fiddle, John!
Mr. Corea, I am inspired by you as a visual artist via your timeless music. I had just started watching your "how to" videos on playing the piano. I played the "Waltz" often after I moved from my parent's home. Now you've transcended to your new home and left us treasures like this to hold us on dark days. In the Highest Being's care now, to you I wish eternal peace. - LP
Practice enough and you might just be able to play a little bit like this! Or a lot like it!! Cute presentation of a Masterful performance of a Guaraldi Masterwork! Thanks for posting!
Very nice; reminiscent of the 1978 Friends album .. the vibe on that, Eddie Gomez on bass if memory serves. Takes me back as if just yesterday, the late 70s when these guys reigned .. Steve Gadd etc. RIP. Chick.
the alternate chords (EbMaj7 | GbMaj7 | AbMaj7 | % | G7alt ) and extra measure at the end are wonderful. Having performed this tune live, I always found there wasn't enough to make the first few bars sound special. This does it - just sounds so cool when you land back on the Cm7
If anyone can kindly help a drummer out with a transcription who is learning piano that would be very appreciated . I have the original score down and memorized.
RIP Chick Corea. A master.
A master!
pure genius! Thanks for leaving us gift.

I’m surprised Corea didn’t respond. Seems like the kind of guy that would. I’ll bet he never saw your letter
@MomoTheBellyDancer lmao. hope you have found or find a way to act on your musical vocation if you still wish to do so.
Post when the pandemic is over and you have some gigs. We'll all come down to hear you play.
RIP chick corea
This play is great enough for someone to become a jazz pianist. Really. (Thank you)
Chick played this in such a way that you could feel a slight autumn breeze blowing across your face, ruffling the red and orange leaves in the trees, making them slowly one by one flutter to the ground. The sun is setting earlier and there will be frost when you wake in the morning.
Rest in peace, Chick. This is my absolute favorite version of this song.
Ditto! Absolutely nothing better than this!

Who in the hell would give this a thumbs down? I just don’t understand some people....
Trolls without ears.
They simply missed the like button, is all. 😁
A CRAZY PERSON👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾💯💯💯💯💯
Favorited. I could listen to this all day long.
RIP, Chick...
Never gets old. Once in a thousand years, right?
One of my favorite tracks on Happy Anniversary, Charlie Brown!
Absolutely excellent .. this cover is absolutely excellent.
The Blue Background appears to be the exact same color as the Like Button ..
自分の知っている中で、
最も絶妙な、流れるようなリズムと旋律の曲です。
自由自在に、美しく、
流れゆく小川のようです。
これ程の領域を持つ、当時のJAZZと、チック・コリアは、凄いです。
Rest in Peace, Chick!
I absolutely love this version!
This is like a kiss from God.
That's how I feel about David Benoit's rendition of this song. This is absolutely beautiful too.
Possibly the best version of this song.
I love this track! Listen to all the time but especially now through the holidays- on repeat
The bass line is a gift of the Gods.
Beautifully put. There simply could never be a better version of this gorgeously melancholic tune. A slice of heaven on earth...
John Patitucci is one of the greatest jazz bass players of our time. Here's another one of his great works: ua-cam.com/video/PtVTLOCLIUY/v-deo.html
Agreed

We all about the master of piano Vince
Yes! Exactly! I use this song when I paint
My favourite Guaraldi's tune !
Loved this album. So many great artists putting their own spins on the compositions of Vince Guaraldi.

There is also Rain Rain Go Away, by Gerry Mulligan
@@giacomoc4119Maybe Breadline Blues, too.
"It's the Great Dolemite, Charlie Brown!" is what lead me to this version.
Magic!!!
John Patitucci crushed the bass solo......

@Eric Fornaro A friend who is a professional bass player sent me to this recording. As for me, I'm a pianist, and this is all fabulous to hear.
@Eric Fornaro

That's Dave Enos, though...
Thank you for this. No longer available on Spotify.
Rest In Peace Chick
Nor Tidal! Unfortunately...

So smooth and relaxing

A favorite version of a beautiful Vince Guaraldi tune, wistfully played by the great Chick Corea- RIP.
I like the introduction before the gist of the main melody. The bass and drums are loud enough be heard and provide a wonderful accompaniment.
my favorite too
Vince was the best specially when the flute play thru forget it
An artistic genius with this piece. Feeling and emotion pushed by his talent and skill. God bless you Chick.

the subtle reharms really make it without sounding completely different
R.I.P. "Maestro", we missed you so much.
Rest in Power, Chick!
Rest easy Chick.
Superb.
RIP, Chick.
piano is so spicy! 🌶🌶🌶
My favorite Vince guaraldi composition.
RIP Chick Corea...
my favorite
Fucking Patitucci, man. That creep can roll
Damn, Chick
RIP, Chick...
YEAHHHH
Beauty in keystrokes.
If anyone can kindly help a drummer out with a transcription who is learning piano that would be very appreciated . I have the original score down and memorized.
Schroeder is in rare form on this one
RIP
😩😢
2 downvoters must be experiencing a psychotic break ..
Lol
Oh ... what this song does to me -
As good as this is musically, it totally misses the point of the track, which is to be haunting, simple, and subtlety beautiful
RIP
