The blinking task is one of the most legendary moments in all versions of taskmaster
@@icturner23: Rhod's is really impressive. Actual "professionals" last nowhere near as long as Bård did. Something's shady.
The don't blink task gets even funnier when you remember how much people went mental over Rhod taping his eyes open for 7 minutes
Also you'll be happy to hear there are 4 whole seasons of Kongen befaler out!! lots of fun ahead.
And for good reason, 7 minutes is impressive. This lot going beyond the world record (and Bård going 2 hours beyond) is a bit shady.
you certainly didn't see a reason to go over an hour, but his brother is Vegard and he knows how insane he can be :D
for real, i bet if vegard didn't have to go to his son's recital he would've stayed there, not blinking, for hours 💀
In this episode, Maria continued to be my favourite contestant. Win or lose, the tasks seem to bring her so much joy!
Maria doesn't seem as much like a celebrity as the others, which is why I think she's so likeable. She just seems like a nice person taking part in some games at a party and having a good time - more of a best friend character than a millionaire celebrity from a totally different walk of life.
@@simonburford9306 I think you are exactly right. Bard and Vegard in particular seem to be taking all the tasks seriously. As much fun as the tasks may be it's still their job to complete them professionally. It's just a slightly different attitude.
She got notoriety of youtube under the name piateed! This is when she had been on television for maybe 2 or 3 years, maybe even one!
Don't Blink was UK Series 7, Rhod Gilbert ran away with it at 7 minutes, and that required *tape*.
@Papa Brown to be fair this first season of taskmaster norway and season 2 of taskmaster nz are alot better than some of the middle seasons of uk taskmaster. theres 3 or 4 seasons that i really didnt enjoy because the cast were either bad comedians or struggling actors
I knew Neil would enjoy the Don't Blink task 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm excited for next week as it has one of my favorite performances from Bard.
For those of you who need a sense of just how long 2 hours 47 minutes is, it's the exact run time of Gangs of New York.
This is one of the most memorable episodes everywhere (including the prize task - incredibly in character for everyone).
Series 4 is one of my favourites - if you ever react to another series of these that would be my personal favourite.
When I saw the preview picture, I knew it must be the "Don't blink" episode before I saw the writing, just from your expression.
Reodor Felgen is a figure by the Norwegian author and illustrator Kjell Aukrust (1920-2002). Reodor Felgen is a bicycle repairer who also makes his own inventions such as
Soup spoon with muffler
Pedal-driven straight razor
Star binoculars with sledgehammer
A alarm clock that warns you when you snore
Toenail box
Remote control glove
Forget-me-not jewelry
The racecar Il Tempo Gigante
Reodor Felgen first appeared in the joke magazine Våre Duster (Our Jerks) and quickly became popular and Kjell Aukrust became one of Norway's most popular humorists and eventually Kjell Aukrust met Ivo Caprino (1920-2001), which made a lot of stop-motion-films of norwegian folklore and in 1970, Ivo Caprino and his small team of collaborators started work on a 25-minute-long TV special, which would eventually become The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix. The TV special was a collection of sketches based on Aukrust's books, with no real storyline. After 1.5 years of work, it was decided that it did not really work as a whole, so production on the TV special was stopped (with the exception of some very short clips, no material from it has ever been seen by the public) . But about one year after the rejection, Ivo Caprino's son, Remo Caprino, got the idea to make the sketches into a full-length film. Kjell Aukrust, Ivo Caprino, Kjell Syversen, and Remo Caprino began at that point to write the script for what would later become The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix.
The film is heavily inspired by the birthplace of Kjell Aukrust's father, Lom. The Flåklypa-mountain is a stylized version of a real mountain, where the valley underneath it is named Flåklypa. It is also widely believed that the characters are caricatures of real persons.
The film was made in 3.5 years by a team of approximately five people. Caprino directed and animated; Bjarne Sandemose (Caprino's principal collaborator throughout his career) built most of the props, sets, and cars and was in charge of the technical aspects of making the film; Ingeborg Riiser designed the puppets and Gerd Alfsen made the costumes and props. Charley Patey was the cameraman.
When it came out in 1975, The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix was an enormous success in Norway, selling 1 million tickets in its first year of release. It remains the biggest box office hit of all time in Norway (Caprino Studios claim it has sold 5.5 million tickets to date) and was also released in many other countries. The film held the record for the highest grossing stop motion animated film until it was surpassed in 1993 by The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Reacting to Pinchcliffe Grand Prix would be pretty fun, BTW. I'm sure it is possible to find on some streaming service, and I believe there is an English dub.
according to google, world record for not blinking is 1 hour 31 minutes. im not sure if that is guiness world record or not, they have their own rules . but Bård should win the entire series for that epic task
at least hes the new taskmaster
I love your enthusiasm for this show. I share it. Great reaction. 2h47 minutes is crazy.
Im pretty sure those 3 had contact lenses, which is why they lasted longer then the world record.
Also I love how there is no thought to safety. Heavy machinery is always being used with no kind of protection, tasks going on the road with traffic etc.
Also, Bård eating with both hands whilst going down the freeway :p
Having contact lenses would make "not blinking" even worse btw, so if they had it they would not last as long as they did.
I think Ylvis was an easy pick for this series, they used to have a program on norwegian TV called Who can beat Ylvis (Hvem kan slå Ylvis), where normal people would compete with Ylvis in all sorts of weird tasks to see if they could win over them. It was a pretty good program.
I loved this show. Loving your reactions so far, looking forward to seeing more
I hadn't heard of Taskmaster: Minnesota until I watched this reaction, but I've checked it out, and I like it! Thanks, Neil, you educate and entertain!
Thanks for pointing me to this version of Taskmaster!
The next few episodes on youtube have some freeze framing. There are better versions on Reddit (search for kongen befaler), the subtitles of those videos are better as well.
Kongen befaler has 4 series, and the 5th starting next week.
When i googled world record without blinking, i got the answer of 1 hour and 31 minutes.
Does this mean that Bård Ylvisåker actually beat the world record?
It might not be common knowledge in Canada, but Weeping Angels are pretty common in Norway.
What do you mean?
@@travelwell6049
The Doctor: "Don't blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back. Don't look away. And don't blink. Good Luck."
@@travelwell6049 It's all Wibbly-wobbly Timey-wimey stuff....
I wouldn’t at all imagined that 20 minutes would’ve been sufficient,hahah
About Reodor Felgen: Imagine Wallace from Wallace and Gromit, only Norwegian, and invented several decades earlier.
I love this episode, the blinking task is unreal!! The original was in season 7, I think Rhod won that with about 7 minutes. Funny to think he'd come 4th here but he smashed the competition in his season
I really like Kongen Befaler season 2 a lot - while I like the cast of season 1 overall better, I think season 2 has some incredible moments that make for an even better show. Definitely worth watching.
Thanks for another great reaction, I'm really enjoying these!
19:26 I guess you could say they quit because they were "Bård"
Thanks for this video, the original is age restricted, probably cause of Maria lmao
My issue with the Norwegian series especially as you watch more (season 2) is that the tasks are heavily weighted towards practical problem solving tasks which aren't always the most entertaining to watch. Norwegians just are much better at problem solving compared to Brits.
It needs more creative tasks, silly tasks etc
I don't get it. Your vision would go blurry without blinking. And they're letting him drive?
He's wearing contacts, which is why his eyes aren't drying out, as the lenses keep moisture on the eyeballs without having the eyelids refreshing them. Still crazy, not to mention it has to take a lot of focus, but it does explain why the brits failed so spectacularly compared to Vegard, Bård and Maria.
@@kimaboe: Yes, it does. Seven minutes is a lot if you don't have contacts. 35 minutes was described as having your eyeball tattooed and 41 minutes is the world record. There was no spectacular fail.
Yeah this was the episode that cemented to me that Vegard is a psychopath.
Was really excited to see your reaction to the no blinking coz I was exactly the same, like "WTF, there's gorra be summit genetic, cold wind often whipping into eyeballs that has led to a higher percentage of scandi folk being able to withstand air against the cornea" and the other weirdness being Bord didn't even need to hold his eyes open with fingers, his facio muscular power (and psychological or just psycho' strength) enabled him to not blink...
Finland TM rocks, the helper is great.
There's also another fan version via twitch, Stanz a twitch streamer has internationals doing task manager -I'm not affiliated tryna farm, promise, I'm an old(ish) luddite woman so non gamer non twitcher but pandemic taskmaster binger who stumbled across basement dwelling kiddles doing such a thing (poggers, amirite?!)
To be honest, Taskmaster Finland and Taskmaster Sweden are pretty good - I'd put Norway, Finland and Sweden as my favourites in that order. The Finland/Sweden versions are also interesting in that they play with the format a bit, in a good way - Sweden has a TV license like in the UK, so their episodes are an hour long without commercials which means they have time for more studio tasks, guest judges from time to time and extra things sometimes added to the prize pot throughout the show (stuff they've made as part of a task, for example). Sounds weird but works quite well. Shows that you can mess with a format to a certain extent and actually improve things a little.
The Spain version, on the other hand, is a bit confusing in that each episode is 2 hours long and there are only about 5 episodes which makes me think that perhaps they did it as a week long special show as opposed to a series over a number of weeks. I haven't really watched much of that one yet so can't comment much, but I imagine that would be the one which would put people off if any of them do. All in all, I think all of them are worth watching - I particular like the female Alex Horne in the Finland edition who keeps a total straight face during the tasks but actually cracks up from time to time in the studio. She seems more human than a lot of the "taskmaster's assistants".
I think i'd have to rank them UK>NO>NZ>SWE>DK> rest. But that said, everything above ">rest" is top tier television
@@thewheelweave Yes, for some reason I'd forgotten about the NZ version. Obviously that's up there.
@@simonburford9306 oh and i forgot the Finnish one. That one goes above >rest too. Love the assistant in that one
@@thewheelweave That's what I was saying, Pilvi is a great assistant, she makes me laugh. The way she keeps swivelling her head to look at the camera in a sort of "what the f are they doing?" sort of way can get a bit old after a while though :)
"Slegge/Bad guy". Nope it's poorly translated
I would echo the love for Taskmaster Minnesota, I think it's easily the best fan-made version out there. The tasks in particular are a highlight - they're all original, and they're all so cleverly designed.
I dont know if u take requests :) but maybe watch 1 episode of he danish one? its just as fun :P
Hi Neil, Don't know if you got the chance to see my comment on your other vid but check out Modern Life is Goodish by Dave Gorman. It's a great show.
Great recommendation, never thought to suggest that.
A great shout, love a bit of Dave…if he could also react to Googlewhack that would be immense
Im a bit puzzled by the translation of "sledge hammer".
I dont know if you can find the Danish version with subtitles, but it's very good to... Similar to both the UK and Norwegian version. I think you would enjoy it :)
I really enjoy your reactions. I even started watching the Norwegian version, just to be able to see your reactions :)
Honestly i’m not sure the translator knows norwegian at all
I found the Spanish version, what's the word, cheesy? Not in a good way.
The Danish variant is my favorite. it has 4 seasons, with a 5th on the way!
5 seasons without blinking? 😁
