    Hi friends of guitar music,
Smetana composed a cycle about his homeland. He tried to bring the development of the river "Moldau" to ear: from the first drops of water, that gather to a small trickle, to a little creek, ten you hear the small river that becomes a big river and finally ends up in a big stream, that flows by, further into distant lands.... It´s a great work, that I got reminded again on my last vacation to Prag/Prague (a really beautiful city) . While it is impossible to bring down the whole orchestra to a six string, I heard a chamber orchestra in Prag playing the main themes of that work in a shortend version.... and while listening to this in the concert hall, I knew that was possible to transcribe for a guitar..... and here is my attempt for that.....
    Hope you like it....
    Gerhard

Gerhard, I wanted hear the Moldau, and didn't expect to find this, what a treat, I didn't know you could play that on guitar. I took classical guitar lessons for 10 years and gave up, it is such a difficult instrument. Thank you for enriching my life, and know you are not a 'hobby musician-ist'. You have a special gift. I will listen to this again and again. Many greetings from Jim in Cupertino, California

Grandios!

I learned this masterpiece at school 15 years ago and I still remember most of it. Often coming back in my mind and I love singing/ whistling its intro and main theme. Don't know why but I only thought of playing it on guitar recently and I found you. Thanks for this ! Really enjoyable to hear, truly a music lover's transcription.

Hi Timothy, yes, my first contact to this beautiful piece of music was also when I was in school at the age of about 14 or 15 years old. And during a trip to Prague I again got in contact with it and searched for a good solo guitar version of it. Since I was not able to find one that fits my needs I decided to make one myselftrying to be as close as possible to the original composition....

      Hi Han,
I am really honoured.... it´s great to hear, that you have learned from my videos and that now some things I have in my head about playing guitar are now also in your head and your fingers..... and you are right: I think that is what has to be mastered - to bring out a full rich sound out of the guitar - even if you play only a single note,,,,,

      Hi Marmee,
sometimes it works really fine to transfer other music into a solo guitar version. Another example is my arrangement of Beethovens 2. mov. of Pathetique. It surely needs some time, to work it out and to find good ways to go on the freetboard. But afterwards one is rewarded with a good sounding version and it really gives joy...

I played it yesterday. I don't have internet at home, I couldn't have checked. I did like you, went by the ear. As usually. Nice performance. I am not sure of all the cords but ok. Dmi6 is there I think. I think I started from the same key. I tremoloed on multiple strings to simmulate the harp, it was fun.

Hi Jan, thank you very much for your comment.... This is a great composition by Smetana. I did not transfer every part of it but the main parts. And then I tried to be as close as possible at the originla score. Hope you enjoy it.
      greetings from Germany - Gerhard

@@GerhardGschossmann Hello Gerhard, I glad I found you. I already downloaded video to try to mimic you, only to forget the pen drive at work. I would never have guessed that the only piece came from Germany. Greetings from Prague. Jan

Hi Jan, in 2013 I also was surprised that there are not many guitar transcriptions for Die Moldau.... so I decided to make my own... ;-)))) - as I did with some other pieces, where back then I was not able to find good arrangements/transcriptions....
and by the way: under each of my videos I have noted, if scores/tabs are available.... ;-)))

It`s amazing! I wish i could play guitar so well.
I love original version of "Ma Vlast" so much, but your acoustic guitar version is really great! By the way, have you heard "Moldau", performed by Luc Arbogast? Very interesting version, i think.

yes, Smetana´s composition is really great... such a beautifull melody.... and I am happy that it works quite well for a solo guitar....

      Hi Montoya,
the idea of fingerstyle guitar playing is, to find solutions that one guitar alone is able to bring the sound of a complete band or a complete orchestra - or otherwise to be able to catch the spirit of the original music piece. If overdubbing a second guitar means, I also can do overdubs with a third guitar or number 4, 5 and 6 and so on - up to a full guitar orchestra. But the only goal is to a version for one solo guitar.
      greetings from Germany - Gerhard

    Hi Uli,

      Hi Abdallah,
on a tour to Prague, I heard a chamer orchestra in the great Smetana Music Hall, playing Die Moldau. And since it was not a full orchestra,
they left out those parts, that played by instruments, that were not in the chamber orchestra. And I thought by myself: that´s what I can best - leaving out parts, I can not play.... ;-))) but seriously, there are missing some minor parts, but over all I tried to be as close as possible
      on Smetana´s orchestra score....
      greetings from Germany - Gerhard
