The above post time favorites entered he KD with significantly better resumes than Fierceness the expected post time favorite for the 2024 renewal of the KD. Four were representatives of top 5 barns
Angel Of Empire - Won 2 and finished 2nd in 3 KD preps as a 3YO. Never beaten 20L in any start prior to the KD.
Epicenter - Was virtually untouchable after his narrow defeat in LaComte. Entered the KD off a NTR in the LA Derby. His winning time (1:54.38) was good enough to win 13 of the last 16 Preakness. Never beaten 20L in any start prior to the KD.
Essential Quality - Like Fierceness won the BCJ and was also Champion 2YO. He entered the KD undefeated in 5 starts that included two 3YO KD preps. Never beaten 20L in any start prior to the KD.
TizThe Law - Entered the KD with 6 wins from 7 starts. His winning time in the Travers (2;00.95) was good enough to win 20 of the last 22 renewals of the KD. Never beaten 20L in any start prior to the KD.
Improbable - Entered the KD with 3 wins & two 2nd place finishes from 5 starts. He inherited the post time KD favoritisms due the scratch of ML favorite Omaha Beach to whom he finished 2nd in the A K Derby.. Never beaten 20L in any start prior to the KD.
Given the above, Fierceness' resume and that of his trainer. Shouldn't extreme caution be exercised in elevating him to post time favorite?
