You can't beat American people for their hospitality.. I visited the USA a few years back, when they hear the British accent they can't do enough for you.. this family took us out for dinner, another family offered to show us around the city...this would never happen in the UK.. great people. Another great video of your adventure..stay strong
When you come East, random places to camp are rare. Not sure of your route, but calling for my fellow Americans to adopt Mat for comfort and safety reasons. Mid-Westerners have been so gracious-ok, Easterners-time to shine!
Yeah, we need to make this happen. Viewers on the East coast along the route post locations in comments for available lodging overnight or contact Mat directly if you can assist. From DC to NY ... I suggest taking a train.
Note to self: It COULD be flat with all the hills 😂😂 Haha, and the way you plowed into that cornfield 🤣🤣 Wow, this trip is coming to an end pretty quickly now, Mat. By the time we're watching this, you are a sniff and 14 inhalations away from the East Coast in Washington, almost getting ready to seremonially dipping your tires in the Atlantic to officially end your ride across the US. I refuse to say America, because America is more than the US. Yes. I'm a nerd 😋 It's really great to see the warmth of the individuals in the US, so many kind people along the way coming out to add to your trip in each their own ways. You're a superstar, Mat :-) Keep it up, brother, you're almost there 💪🏼💪🏼🙂 Cheers 🍺 Sincerely A.K
The entire world should be forced to take a bike tour or a backpacking trip to see what it is like to give and receive kindness and generosity towards people. It would be a much different world wouldn’t it? I’m happy for you to continue meeting great people. Cheers!
@@iowen8585 It would indeed be a much greater world if there was more reciprocal kindness happening, and doing it whilst cycling would get a vote from me 🚲😁👍
On Day 52 when you ended the Katy Trail, you crossed the Mississippi River into Alton, Illinois not Alton, Missouri. Alton, Missouri is at the southeastern part of the state. Love your adventure. You've inspired me to get out and ride more! Looking forward to your New Zealand ride.
Matt. Matt. Matt. You have excelled yourself in this download. You seem exuberantly happy in your adventure that you have embarked on and nearly completed. You keep on inspiring me to just do it and I find it lovely that there are so many nice people out there, whom want to be part of your great adventure. You have made me feel better by putting a big smile on my face. So thanks again. My wife agrees and has become a big fan of yours. Even mentioned doing the USA on a tandem. We can dream big. Have a drink on me.
I laughed out loud so many times watching this video. Two shout-outs: Hank and the invitation to go bull riding at midnight - hahahaha! And Brooklyn - hello again, little biker buddy! Thanks for another terrific video, Mat and Ross 🙂
Some interesting places Mat, varied and some are rather compact to say the least! Constanly happy to see how nice most folk are, you had some great riding company, and that little dog is a STAR! Love the way that they managed to preserve an individuals humility by way of providing a small bell to ring! a cunning plan indeed............. Hope you continue to prosper, some good distances covered again, your fitness must be building. Calm winds happy trails.
Great progress! Happy you are meeting so many people, and experiencing their generosity. It’s especially encouraging given the current climate. Unseasonably warm still, though a couple cool nights. Looking forward to the next video as always. Happy trails!
Mat thanks so much for the all the work you (and your video editor) do with these videos, my wife and I are almost finished with all of them! I can't really find words to express how grateful I am for your inspiration, my wife and I both have bikes now and rode our first rail trail. I see you made it to D.C. congrats! Can't wait to see the videos that follow.
The sound quality is exceptional, really adds to the viewing experience. Way better than those that add a soundtrack over the top. Keep on enjoying the ride!
I love your enthusiasm! Great fun watching your videos. I'll have to start from the beginning, now that I've found you here. You make it feel as if we're all riding with you. Best to you on your journey.
As always....a great video. Beautiful scenery, interesting meet up's and awesomely edited video. Really appreciate your content and how it's put together. Thanks for putting yourself out there Mat....and thanks Ross for all the work to bring it to us!!!! (Maybe a longer trip like this with Ross?....enjoyed your beat the sunrise video. 😊)
Another great video where you take us with you and share your experiences. Glad you didn't pick up anyone near the prison. 😂 Safe Travels and can't wait for your next video.
Looking at the corn and the light, the edge of fall is on you. I live in and bike in Montana and Wyoming but you make the midwest with its mix of secondary highways, rail trails, and farm country gravel look appealing for bike touring. Great friends. The tandem looked pro.
And this is fantastic evidence of why you do these trips❤ Great filming, what amazing kind people . I assume your visit in the corn field was brief 😂😂😂omg, it made me crack up. Good luck with the rest of your trip, hopefully the sun continues to shine. You need bell ringing lessons😂 Have fun🍻
Hi Matt, greetings from Scotland 🏴. I started watching your channel earlier this year. Loved watching you ride the GDMBR - that is now on my bucket list. Thoroughly enjoying your latest adventure too. I’m currently riding the Southern Upland Way in Scotland - much much harder than I thought it would be - more of a walkers route - bogs, and massive off road climbs - but the scenery is amazing and so far I’ve only met 3 people on the route in 7 days. You’ve certainly inspired me to try longer routes. Thank you for sharing your adventures. Happy cycling 🚴♂️ 😊.
I think it's a common Welsh thing, but when you get excited Mat, the accent kicks in! As a Welshman living in England, I've been told by the missus I do it too!😂 wishing you the best. Keep on putting out the videos, they are awesome, and yes inspiring, already turned my fitness around and done my first weekend 140 miles over 2 days, from Shropshire to the clwydian range and back again. So glad I found your channel.
Mat Thanks for sharing the ride! ... To those watching the videos, Thanks for the funny comments! "Modonna of the Trail" statue in Vandalia, IL. Each sate along US Route 40 has such a statue. You were a few blocks from the one in Ohio AND there is a home town micro brewery across the street from the statue. May this post help you and/or others seize the opportunity to see both in the future.
Hi Mat 👋 I was tempted to reintroduce myself with some sort of "Here's Jonny" , The Shining type meme but under the circumstances ... This episode has been so much fun to watch! I am certainly going to miss your travels. If you are ever in the swamp of Florida I will definately meet you to ride. We do have some great gravel biking with a gator here and there 😂. Awesome trip you are having
Cheers Mat, 4 Budwisers is not too many, they are pretty light. I appreciate that almost everything you eat on camera, you enjoy, almost everything is good or really good. Take care.
The best video in this series! Happy that you met some new and old friends along the way! It was fun to see your friends and Brooklyn from the GDMBR! America the beautiful :)
Mat, thank you for yet another glimpse into your eventful journey full of fortuitous encounters with people, flora and fauna. I watched the spoiler from Bikes and Beyond about your visit to the brewery and your ride with Alan and John. Sorry, I couldn't help it. I also recognised your tandem friends with the dog from the GDMBR. When watching the videos, one tends to forget that you suffer daily mosquito onslaughts, feel the heat (Ross, thank you for Celsius reminders!), fight dehydration or cycle along cornfields for days. I hope you're riding further north and are safe from Hurricane Helen.
Yea Casey’s…a favorite stop on long bike rides through rural areas…for quick gas pump picnics. Decent pizza by the slice, cold beers and also breakfast pizza which people like…
I watch each of your videos, probably 3 times, in case i missed on of your jokes. I’m glad so many people are coming out to great you on your trip. Vic’s bar looked fun, cheers 🍺

I've caught up with this ride series now, having watched your GDMBR movie a little while back; a ride on my 'to do list' when time permits. Really enjoying the series and the vicarious adventure. Getting off the busy roads certainly looks like the right idea. The sound of the corn cracking as you turned around was superb.
When Interstate I-80 went through Nebraska, and did not follow old Highway 30. more then a few towns on Old 30, just dried up and died. Glad to see your making good time. Yes, the further east you get, the smaller the states are.
Another great video Mat! I agree with you that some of the best moments are meeting new people! Such an inspiration to get out and see the world! Thanks! Cheers 👍🏻👊🏻🍻
I’m happy you had a great experience in Illinois. I was transferred to Northern Illinois many years ago and feel the same way about the people. I was there 10 years and married the sweetest one I could find, 21 years ago. Also the taverns in Illinois and WI are the best 🍻
Hi Mat, loved watching all your cycling adventures recently and your current trip. You have inspired me to get back on my bike and also create my own channel. Who knows where it will lead but I purchased a Insta360 x4 and recorded 2 videos post work today. Keep up the fantastic work and safe riding. David
In Kansas, we call those "hedge apples" and they fall from a "hedge tree." The wood from the hedge tree burns very hot - good for wood-burning stoves, but not so good for fireplaces because they do have a tendency to spark while they burn.
Mat, that is wonderful that you have people meeting you on the trail. I wish I was on your path, I would join you too. I've been watching you since the DGMDR and you inspire me to travel more on my bike. Bull riding at midnight - I'd be a bit suspicious of that as well. Good you passed on the opportunity. Judging from your tracker, you're almost done! You should do the GDMBR again, this time with Ross.
Another lovely video, great trail, roads, and eating places. Overwhelming generosity and friendliness which will help you achieve your ultimate goal, welldone Mat and thanks for sharing your adventure, take care 👏👋
So sorry I wasn’t able to catch you on the C&O trail when you rode through. Videos have been great. Congrats on finishing in Washington DC. Hope you were able to find the mile zero sign for the C&O, I’ve heard it is hard to find.
love your videos! i want to and will someday soon do the GDMBR thans in part to you; Why not a Brooks saddle? very comfortable and made in UK? Starbucks instant coffee instead of truck stop coffee poured thru an old sock? Why not a tour of your own country? you can bring us along! thank you
Hi. I think I might try a B17. Everybody seems to like them. I like the Starbucks instant but it's ridiculously expensive. I'll be doing more trips in Europe and the UK. cheers.

@@matryderadventures a meet up ride would be good definitely 👍. Im really enjoying your trip, great fun to watch as always, its something I (and probably many others) really look forward to each week so thanks 👍
Matt.. going anywhere near Trexlertown, PA? There's a great track bike velodrome there. Might just be that unique location to visit. Also near the home of Tom Kellogg, a primer custom frame builder, now retired.
@matryderadventures, I don’t see your “bike non-stop” route indicated on the ACA’s interactive route map. Is it documented anywhere? Am enjoying “the ride” with you!
Hi. I'm glad you're enjoying this trip. Thanks for watching. The Bike Non Stop route isn't an ACA route. Here's a link to a site which has all the details. bikenonstop.com/ Cheers.
Mat, You had me laughing out loud when you rand the bell and when you were at the dumpster. Best of luck the remainder of your travels. Im hoping that your next video will include the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) from Pittsburgh to Washington DC. Your friend, Dave in Ft Collins, Colorado
Don't know how you haven't got more subscribers tbh this is honestly one of the best content I've experienced on UA-cam . Really enjoying it so far

Matt.. going anywhere near Trexlertown, PA? There's a great track bike velodrome there. Might just be that unique location to visit. Also near the home of Tom Kellogg, a primer custom frame builder, now retired.
I'm behind with the comments so missed this one. Maybe next time. I'm sure I'll be back.

Cheers.
@ Thanks, Mat!
Brooklyn might not be a good guard dog but I bet he/she is a fantastic watchdog 🙂
Mat,
You had me laughing out loud when you rand the bell and when you were at the dumpster.
Best of luck the remainder of your travels.
Im hoping that your next video will include the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) from Pittsburgh to Washington DC.
Your friend, Dave in Ft Collins, Colorado
Hi Dave. I loved the GAP. I think it'll feature in the video after the next one. Cheers.
You've seen more of America than most Americans ever will.
You were about five miles from my house, sorry I missed you!
Great episode, thanks Mat.
I was wondering, what do you do with the bike when going inside stores, or otherwise leave it unattended ?
I usually leave it where I can see it. Mostly, I only go in stores in smaller towns or busy places.
