Sea The Stars won in one year what no other horse ever did. 2,000 G., The Derby, The Arc. Now if you great judges can't see he was a great race horse, nothing will.
There were 9 Gp 1 winners in this race!!! When you watch the front-on view around 6:30 you will learn how he won this race. Basically StS is the leader of the pack and when he was coming through & between horses he went straight for the next horse immediately in front of him and eyeballed the horse. This is how horses show their authority. Once he gets past that horse he then goes straight for the next horse immediately in front and does the same. Those horses know not to go past him now and that's why he eases down once he hits the front. StS is the best horse I have ever seen. Personally I rate him better than Frankel because Frankel would have "fallen in" once StS eyeballed him just like every horse did. At the Irish Champion Stakes the Ballydoyle riders tried to box him in but their mounts just couldn't do it because they were scared of StS because he was the boss. StS would have won the Breeders' Cup if they had sent him - even with the travel and his winter coat coming through.
This horse was in another class. I hate that people compare him to frankel. Frankel was a brilliant miler. Sea the stars was a versatile champion and won much more prize money because he could tackle different distances. I wish they had sent him to the states for the breeders cup, he was amazing and i wish they had raced him more.
Hairy coat has nothing to do with performance, the horse had more than earned his retirement but i loved watching him run, he had it all, it would have been selfish to push him further and they made the right call but i often wonder how far he could have gone and if he could have done what treve has and win the arc more than once
well said .i worked in ballydoyle muckin out from 1999 to2002..at that time there were serious horses that came along .i was blessed to be part of it .kinane rode them all at time..and dont get me wrong .at time o brien.trained the best ..he had .giantscauseway .gallieo.rock of gibaltar.hawk wink.istrabraq.joannesberg.the list goes on ..but kinane said this is the best horse that he sat on .and frankel wouldnt be able for him .thats how good this animal was.
I also dislike it when ppl try to rank and compare superstars. Whether its STS vs Frankel, Messi vs Ronaldo, LeBron vs Jordan. They are all superstars and legends. Why can´t they all be great.
One of the all time great trainers, Mr John Oxx. Enjoy your retirement. You must get a great kick looking back at this one, he was one of the best I've ever seen ( the other been Frankel). But what about that for a ride by M.J. K !!!!! How calm was he , in a great race like this ? Absolutely fantastic training achievement by the trainer and brilliant ride by one of the greatest jockeys.
Always get the goosebumps watching this! The Croc's commentary is awesome. Picks perfect words for every race. Watching the way this horse powered away between 200m and 100m from home, it deserved some honouring. "perfection in equine form" was spot on.
Great ride from Mick Kinnan not to panic and go early when those two horses went so far in front. I know Frankel is often considered the greatest because of his 14 from 14, but Sea the Stars’ star quality over different distances at G1 level puts him right up alongside him for me.
He gives the feeling that if Pegasus ever flew up alongside him after striking the front, Sea The Stars would just look over at him and change gears as many times as it takes to win by a length.
Lol that's a wonderful way to describe Sea the Stars, just done what he had to, I think he may have been a bit pissed off in this race by winning easily and using more energy that he needed to
The win that will forever seal his immortality. We all know Frankel was flashier and had that "wow, must watch" about him. But STS was a "proper" racehorse. "Horse of a lifetime"?....nahhhh A horse for ALL TIME.
Biggest bet of my life 8.3k at 6/5 odds weeks before the arc. I was crying 4 furlongs from home thought he boxed in. My heart ran as fast as STS did lol
the best finish I've ever seen, for the first time I saw how a horse decided on his own and the competition is fate, you can see that the horse understands and expresses his will to win. Bravo
Unusually big field , binding ground, rough riding neighbours all around him for most of the race , no clear path til the final stretch when everyone fell away. The most mentally and physically tough Grade 1 race I've seen , he prevailed in the most proffessional manner, pulling away. Best horse I've ever seen - I fell in love with him when I saw him finish 4th in his first two year old race - Mick Kinane minded him and thought enough of him to educate him. Even at 2 his neck was well set on and he was very aware and cool in the parade ring, smart self awsre and self confident - beautifully trained by gentleman John Ox.

sea the stars won from an impossible place you cant win wen boxed in like that. m kinane said this is thebest he ever rode . 6 group 1s 1 after other unrivalled from 1 mile to classic distance 1m4 f
Dancing brave was brill in the 1986 arc,,but fair play to see the stars,he came from what looked like an impossible position,to win very easy in the end, brill horse

Coral Eclipse 2009 . From Sportinglife : The form didn’t work out too badly: Rip Van Winkle went on to win the Sussex Stakes and QEII, both over a mile, on his next two starts. The third home, Conduit, won the King George at Ascot three weeks later. The seventh home, Twice Over, won his next three starts culminating in the Group One Champion Stakes. And Sea The Stars himself added the Juddmonte International, Irish Champion Stakes and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe to his glittering collection. The winning time, 2m 3.40s, is the fastest ever recorded in the race.
